Newcastle sign Norwegian talent – Official deadline day announcement

Newcastle United have announced the signing of 17-year-old midfielder Travis Hernes.

The highly-rated youngster arrives from Shrewsbury Town and will join the club’s Academy, becoming the latest teenage talent added to the our ever-improving youth system.

Hernes has played three times for the League Two side this season and started in their 2-1 defeat to Leeds in the Carabao Cup this week. He’s a Norwegian youth international, playing twice for his country at U17 level.

It may not be the first-team signing some were hoping for on deadline day, but it’s great to see the club investing in the future once again, with our academy no longer neglected as it was under Mike Ashley.

Newcastle United have recruited Shrewsbury Town youngster Travis Hernes to the club’s Little Benton Academy.

The 17-year-old central midfielder has started twice for Shrewsbury in League One this season, having signed his first professional deal with the Shrews last month.

Born in Heradsbygda, Norway, he has represented his country at under-17 level. A product of Shrewsbury’s Academy, Travis made his senior debut in the EFL Trophy last season and marked the occasion with a goal against Wolves’ under-21 team.
