Newcastle announce Hendrick exit and another deal close to completion – Official statement

Newcastle United have confirmed that Jeff Hendrick has joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan for the remainder of the 2023/24 season.

After spending last year with Reading – who suffered relegation to League One – the Irish international has joined the Owls following their promotion back to the Championship.

Elsewhere, Isaac Hayden has travelled to Belgium to hopefully finalise a loan move to Standard Liege. However, it remains to be seen if the 28-year-old will put pen to paper after seeing proposed moves to Sheffield Wednesday and Luton collapse this week.

Hayden was expected to join Wednesday earlier today, but the Owls backed out of a deal and pursued Hendrick; who will see his Newcastle contract expire and leave as a free agent at the end of his loan spell at Hillsborough.

The Magpies midfielder will spend the duration of the 2023/24 season at Hillsborough as Xisco Muńoz’s side look to establish themselves back in the Championship after gaining promotion from League One.

Republic of Ireland international Hendrick joined the Magpies from Burnley in 2020 and has made 27 appearances for the club, scoring three goals.

He joined Queens Park Rangers on loan for the second half of the 2021/22 campaign and spent last season on loan at Reading, making 45 league appearances for the Royals.
