Alan Shearer posts video reaction to Newcastle drawing PSG, Dortmund and AC Milan in the UCL

Alan Shearer believes “this is what we all wanted” after Newcastle were drawn in a Champions League group alongside PSG, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.

The former Toon striker is very excited for three incredible away trips for Newcastle supporters and to see 5000 fans in Milan once again, with our opening game on 19th September a trip to the San Siro!

You’d struggle to find a more difficult group in recent memory, with all four fancying their chances to progress. It will be almost impossible to predict and has been described as the ‘group of death’ following our return to the UCL after 20 years away.

Here’s what an excited Alan Shearer had to say on the Rest Is Football podcast:

“So this is what all the Geordies wanted. Newcastle in the Champions League and wow, it didn’t disappoint!

What a draw Newcastle have got, PSG, Dortmund and AC Milan.

“I can just imagine five or six thousand fans going mad in Milan, and in Dortmund, and in Paris.

“What a draw, Geordies will be absolutely delighted.

“This is what Newcastle wanted, it’s what we all wanted and worked so hard for last season to get back in amongst the big boys, and they’ve certainly done that.”

Though the chances of qualifying for the knockouts may be slimmer, you’ll find few Geordies who are disappointed with the draw, with trips to the San Siro, Parc des Princes and Signal Iduna Park lined up.

As Shearer states, ‘this is what we’ve worked so hard for’ after two decades out of the competition and it’s great to back amongst Europe’s elite. Bring it on!
