Isaac Hayen completes Newcastle exit after Luton and Sheffield Wednesday U-turns – Official

Newcastle United have confirmed that Isaac Hayden has joined Standard Liege on a season-long loan.

The midfielder received serious interest from Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday last week, arriving at both clubs for medicals, but late U-turns left him looking for a move elsewhere once last Friday’s 11pm deadline had passed.

Fortunately for the player and Newcastle, Belgian Pro League side Standard Liege came forward with a loan bid, offering the 28-year-old an escape route after a tough few seasons on and off the pitch.

After an injury-riddled loan spell at Norwich last season and a summer training away from Eddie Howe’s first team squad, hopefully Hayden can put his fitness woes behind him and impress in Belgium.

The former Arsenal man will spend the rest of the 2023/24 campaign on loan at the Belgian Pro League side.

He spent last season on loan at Norwich City, where he made 14 appearances.
