New injury worry as Newcastle star suffers ‘muscle issue’ in World Cup qualifier on Friday

Miguel Almiron has suffered a ‘muscle issue’ during Paraguay’s World Cup qualifier against Peru and will ‘undergo further tests’ to understand how serious an injury it may be.

The 29-year-old played the full game as La Albirroja were held to a 0-0 draw in their opening game on Friday, but looked in discomfort as he left the pitch.

Almiron has started every game for Newcastle in the Premier League so far as he looks to emulate the great form he had towards the end of 2022.

It’s understood that the former Atlanta United man will also undergo a recovery plan and will hope not to be sidelined for our clash against Brentford next Saturday, particularly with our lack of depth in that right-wing position.

Despite the potential injury, Paraguay head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto confirmed that the winger will travel to Venezuela ahead of their next qualifier on Tuesday, giving us some hope that his injury is a minor one.
