Good & bad news for five Newcastle stars on Tuesday night – Three big wins and a disastrous defeat

It was a mixed bag of results for those on international duty as Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson, Alexander Isak, Sandro Tonali and Fabian Schar’s nations all competed on Tuesday night.

Trippier started at left-back for England as the Three Lions recorded a comfortable 3-1 victory over Scotland in what was the 150th anniversary since the two sides first met.

Wilson made an appearance from the bench for the final 10 minutes or so, but struggled to really make any kind of impact in the very limited time he had.

Schar – who started over the weekend – was an unused substitute as Switzerland secured another three points against Andorra in their bid to qualify for Euro 2024, moving top of Group I after a 3-0 win.

However, it was a disastrous night for Isak, who started up top for Sweden in a 3-1 defeat to Austria, leaving them third in qualifying, seven points off of second with three games to play and on the brink of missing out on another major tournament.

Sandro Tonali missed out on Italy’s huge Group C encounter with Ukraine at the San Siro, but it was great news for the injured midfielder as they won 2-1 to move back into 2nd and in pole position to qualify for Euro 2024 alongside England.
