Newcastle officials spotted watching Argentine sensation with £8m release clause – Report

According to reports, Newcastle recently sent club officials to watch over Boca Juniors defender Valentin Barco.

This comes from 90min, who reports that Newcastle are one of several Premier League clubs to have scouted the 19-year-old over in Argentina, with talent spotters from Brighton, Chelsea, Manchester City, Brentford, Wolves and Nottingham Forest also spotted taking a look at the teenager.

Barco has broken into the first team this season and has recent rave reviews across his 11 appearances so far, prompting a number of clubs to keep an eye on his availability.

It is understood that the defender has an £8m release clause in his current contract, though the Argentinian side are currently negotiating new terms in a bid remove or increase the current clause.

It remains to be seen if we’ll up our reported interest in the left-back, especially when we’ve just signed Lewis Hall on a loan-to-buy basis from Chelsea.
