NUFC player ratings vs West Ham – One 8.5, two 8s, a solid 7, several 6s and a 5

A game of ups and downs where we were behind, ahead then level, seeing us leave East London with a point following a 2-2 draw at West Ham. Here come the ratings from the London Stadium:

Nick Pope – 5 – Should’ve done better with the West Ham goal in the first half, rushing off his line unnecessarily and caught in no man’s land. Will have been disappointed. Could do little to stop Kudus’ late equaliser. To his credit, he did well to punch clear a few dangerous set pieces.

Kieran Trippier – 8.5* – Class above again on the pitch. Unbelievable assist for Isak’s second goal. So composed all throughout the game, guiding his team mates through tough moments in the match. 86 passes in the game, five of them key. Won five duels and was excellent throughout at both ends, dealing with Paqueta well.

Jamaal Lascelles – 6 – Overall pretty good and filling the void of the imperious Sven Botman. Won nine duels and made two tackles in the game. Fantastic run of games from the club captain who will be extremely pleased with his recent performances.

Fabian Schar – 7 – Calm in possession and read the game pretty well, also making nine clearances. Didn’t reach the heights hit on Wednesday but put in a solid display.

Dan Burn – 8 – Rock solid and a big threat from set pieces, forcing Areola into one great save and glancing another header just wide. Did very well to keep one of the league’s in form wingers quiet in Jarrod Bowen and played a lovely ball in behind to set up Isak’s big chance to make it 3-1.

Bruno Guimaraes – 6 – Should’ve been sent off in the first half for two really rash slide tackles as West Ham broke beyond our midfield. Ref bottled it for me. Got on the ball more in the second half and dictated the tempo of our play. Seemed extremely reluctant to make challenges in the second half after getting away with one in the first.

Sean Longstaff – 6 – A slight passenger in the game at times and looked leggy from his monstrous performance in the midweek. Booked for dissent in the second half after making a clumsy foul on the edge of our box.

Sandro Tonali – 6 – A few too many sloppy passes in the first half which got us in trouble in transition, but really grew into the game in the second half and benefited from moving to the right side of our midfield three. Still adjusting to the side and English football, so we must be patient. Should’ve done more to close down Kudus’ equaliser.

Elliot Anderson – 6.5 – Definitely needs to start releasing the ball quicker after he beats his man or when a teammate is in a better position. Quiet first half but battled really well on the left hand side and got a few shots away.

Miguel Almiron – 6 – Struggled to pose a threat in the match and seemed a bit leggy. Booked for dissent in the second half, but did come close in the first 45 with a brilliant effort just wide of the top corner.

Alexander Isak – 8 – Took his two goals beautifully but should’ve had a hat-trick rounding Areola but failing to convert from a tight angle. Ultimately, the miss cost us in the end but we can’t have too many complaints. Only Haaland has more Premier League goals than him now.

Substitutes:

Jacob Murphy – N/A – Failed to make an impact on the match with a ten minute cameo.

Callum Wilson – N/A – Only had a few touches.

Matt Targett – N/A – Played two minutes.

  1. Squad depth a worry with injuries and when we pick up needless bookings, Joelinton, Bruno and Gordon need to wise up quickly.
I would have settled for a point today after such a busy schedule and injuries.
