Newcastle threaten multi-million pound case after Tonali punishment goes public – Report

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Newcastle are threatening to sue AC Milan after it was discovered that Sandro Tonali had been betting on their games prior to a big-money move.

The report claims that Toon chiefs are angry and considering a ‘multi-million pound’ lawsuit, suggesting the Serie A giants may have been aware before negotiating a £52m deal with Newcastle over the summer.

The 23-year-old came off the bench in Wednesday’s 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund, but it may not be his last appearance before his 10-month ban, with the club confirming on Friday that his suspension will only come into action when they receive official paperwork from FIFA.

While he’s out, Tonali will still be allowed to train with the first-team, which will be a huge plus for the player himself. However, Corriere dello Sport claim his wages – worth a reported £7m-per-year – may be suspended or reduced once the ban comes into place.

A huge blow for Eddie Howe to lose our star signing after recent injury setbacks for Alexander Isak, Jacob Murphy and Elliot Anderson, but it’ll be interesting to see how this pans out with the club ‘seriously considering’ legal action.

  1. Wow the same Italian media who tried to create a bucket load of 5h1t stirring when the sale went through are now speculating on more strife around tonali.
Waiting for he inevitable “ he’s homesick and struggling through not playing so nufc will sell him back to Milan” BS at some point after the ban kicks in

Who knows what Milan did or didn’t know and what nufc May be considering but whatever it is I doubt they’ll be confiding in the media

  2. Surely Sandro knows? Why not just ask him if anyone at Milan knew anything? Or maybe they have asked him and that’s why they’re considering legal action…..

  3. After his former manager said something to the tune of … Iworry about Tonali 9 times more now, I thought of the scene’s you see in films of the Mafia, where they say “I love you like a son”… and then put a bullet in the poor guys head.

I really think they knew and got rid of him as soon as they could. The only innocent parties in this are Newcastle United I reckon.
