Following last night’s 3-0 win over Man Utd, club legend Alan Shearer and co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi took to Twitter as we moved into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.
Alan Shearer – ‘Total domination from the Toon. Magnificent from start to finish from every single player. One team playing for the badge the other team a complete mess. TOON TOON.’
Mehrdad Ghodoussi – ‘Incredible performance by the lads, so proud of the resilience and fight. We are united, we are one. Also a special thanks to the away fans, you sang your hearts out – your support means everything to the team.’
Shearer is right. Everyone played their part, with rarely-seen squad men Matt Ritchie, Emil Krafth and Paul Dummett all putting in a brilliant shift. This line summed it up best – ‘One team playing for the badge, the other team a complete mess.’
Ghodoussi’s ‘we are united’ message felt apt. Only one united looked up for the fight and a proper team last night, while he was also right to praise the 7,000+ Geordies who drowned out Old Trafford from start to finish.
So many positives, so many success stories and such a satisfying win over an abysmal Man Utd side who couldn’t cope with our energy, intensity, organisation and spirit.
