Newcastle considering move for Dutch international midfielder – Report

According to Italian outlet Tuttosport, Newcastle are considering Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners as a potential replacement for the suspended Sandro Tonali.

Tonali has now been ruled out for the rest of the season with a 10-month ban due to illegal gambling and Newcastle are on the lookout for a similar kind of midfielder to fill in for the rest of this hectic season.

It’s believed that the club have already sent representatives to discuss a possible deal for Koopmeiners, who has had an impressive start to the season with five goal involvements in nine Serie A games.

Atalanta are likely to demand a hefty fee for the 25-year-old, but it’s unclear how much we’d be willing to spend, with some claiming loan alternatives such as Kalvin Phillips or Ruben Neves are more likely to be pursued.

The Netherlands international has recently signed a new deal lasting until 2028, so there is no real urgency to sell the former AZ Alkmaar man.
