Newcastle ‘very interested’ in bringing former Chelsea star back to England – Report

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Newcastle are ‘very interested’ in bringing Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen to St James’ Park after first registering interest back in March.

The centre-back, who has made 12 appearances so far this season, joined the La Liga giants from Chelsea in the summer of 2022, signing on a free transfer after his contract at Stamford Bridge expired.

It’s believed Newcastle, as well as other English clubs, had shown interest in signing the Danish international towards the end of last season, but no formal bids were made.

A few months on, Sport report that we remain keen on the 27-year-old, who is described as being the ‘most reliable centre-back’ and a player Barca would be reluctant to sell in the New Year, despite their financial issues.

I’m sure his Premier League experience would appeal to Eddie Howe, but it sounds like a difficult deal to do. After all, he’s playing regularly at one of the biggest clubs in world football and wouldn’t come cheap.
