Callum Wilson has confirmed that an injury ‘setback’ has forced him to withdraw from the latest England squad, revealing his disappointment after he ‘worked so hard’ to get back into Gareth Southgate’s plans.
Speaking after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth, Eddie Howe admitted that he was facing a ‘number of weeks’ on the sidelines, giving us yet another injury headache.
Wilson was forced off with a ‘tight hamstring’ in last week’s Champions League clash with Dortmund. However, it seems to be more than just tightness, forcing him to withdraw from the Three Lions’ Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia.
In a Monday morning post on social media, here’s what our number nine has had to say:
‘Unfortunately, a recent setback has meant I had to withdraw from the squad that I’d worked so hard to be a part of.
‘Strong walls shake but never collapse, so for sure I’ll be back soon. Good luck to the lads in the upcoming fixtures.’

Thankfully, Alexander Isak is due back from a groin problem after the international break, but it’s awful timing for Wilson and Howe ahead of another busy run of fixtures.
Hopefully Wilson is ‘back soon’ and able to play his part over the hectic festive schedule.
