His signing was never officially announced by the club, but Newcastle’s summer move for England youth international Trevan Sanusi was considered a real coup.
The winger is a regular in the Three Lions youth setup and was on the brink of breaking into Birmingham’s first-team last season, coming close to breaking Jude Bellingham’s record as the youngster ever player to represent the Blues.
It’s believed we beat Premier League rivals Man Utd, Liverpool, Spurs and Man City to his signature and he’s made an instant impact within our ever-improving Academy.
The 16-year-old has been involved in four goals in six starts so far. He scored in the U18s’ 3-0 win over Blackburn and registered assists in impressive Premier League wins over Liverpool and Sunderland. Sanusi has also caught the eye in the UEFA Youth League, setting up fellow summer signing Cathal Heffernan in our comeback draw against Borussia Dortmund last week.
I watched him in our narrow defeat to PSG in the UEFA Youth League and he looks a real talent, possessing real pace, trickery and the ability to burst past his man.
We invested heavily in our U18s over the summer and it appears to be paying off immediately. Last season, they finished second bottom of the U18 Premier League, winning just six games all year. This time around, we’ve won five of our first nine games, leaving us 4th in the table, level with last seasons winners Man City and behind only them, Liverpool and Man Utd.
Trevan Sanusi’s assist vs Dortmund U19 earlier today. Lovely technique on the cross – Trevan was wanted by many top clubs over the summer and Newcastle won the race. Was at Birmingham City prior. 2007-born talent is definitely one to keep an eye on. pic.twitter.com/DZRiysT0im
