UEFA exposed as officials make staggering call 24 hours after PSG 1-1 Newcastle

24 hours on from that 98th-minute heartbreak at PSG, there was yet another contentious decision in the Champions League that appears to make a mockery of Tino Livramento’s handball.

In their home clash with Copenhagen on Wednesday night, Bayern Munich were awarded a penalty after the ball hit Peter Ankersen arm before deflecting off his body. Hand THEN body, yet it was reviewed by VAR and overturned.

As The Mail’s Craig Hope says below, this makes VAR’s decision to penalise Livramento all the more staggering, as the ball struck his body BEFORE glancing his arm. Care to explain, UEFA?

To see a similar scenario (only this was more of a handball) result in a different outcome will just rub salt into the wounds for Eddie Howe and his squad after all of their hard work.

It’s the lack of consistency with VAR and their rules that frustrates us most and leaves us all feeling pretty perplexed. The lack of clarity and common sense from UEFA an those applying their rules has to be questioned.

If nothing else, this will certainly spur the players on, as we’ll be wounded animals with a point to prove ahead of games against Man Utd tomorrow and AC Milan the week after next.

  1. What a disgrace for football in general newcastle were robbed of a vital win
    Much better than psg
Var should be dismantled and be removed from the football arena
It works well for tennis and rugby but not football

  2. It’s a kama for Newcastle United. Arsenal fc was rubbed in its favour. Its manager and fans gave credit to VAR then, labelled Arsenal manager as Wolf. They have felt the pains of being rubbed now. They should shut their mouths up.
