Kalvin Phillips demands go public after interest from Newcastle and Juventus – Report

The Telegraph have issued an update on the future of Kalvin Phillips, who looks almost certain to leave Man City next month.

Senior reporter Matt Law claims that the 28-year-old has sought guarantees over his playing time before choosing which club to join, with the player ‘desperate’ to be part of Gareth Southgate’s plan ahead of next summer’s Euros.

The Telegraph state that Newcastle and Juventus are currently at the front of the queue for his signature. It’s believed a move to Tyneside would be a more straightforward switch for the former Leeds star, as a transfer to Juve will require more upheaval.

This could give us an advantage in our battle with the Serie A giants, but it’s believed the Italians may be in a position to offer the midfielder more guarantees over minutes. Eddie Howe has been searching for a Sandro Tonali replacement after his lengthy ban, yet the emergence of Lewis Miley means we have him, Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock and Elliot Anderson to pick from when everyone’s fit.

That said, two of those are currently injured and unlikely to return for another month, not to mention the fact we lack a natural number six who could give Bruno more freedom to attack and protect a defence that’s been leaking goals on the road.

We were told last week that we’re closing in on Phillips and confident he’ll arrive in January, so it’ll be interesting to see if our plans have changed following Miley’s breakthrough.
