Sky Italy: Newcastle chief travels to watch three players in 2-2 draw vs AC Milan

According to Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Dan Ashworth has been on scouting duties this weekend to watch three Salernitana players in their 2-2 draw with AC Milan on Friday night.

He reports that our sporting director was in the stands to watch striker Boulaye Dia, midfielder Lassana Coulibaly and centre-back Lorenzo Pirola.

Dia is a 27-year-old Senegalese international who has four goals in 10 starts this season, following his impressive tally of 16 goals and six assists in 33 Serie A appearances over 2022/23.

The former Villarreal forward could be a handy addition to our injury-prone attack, but he’ll be at the African Cup of Nations next month, as will Malian teammate Coulibaly.

As for Pirola, the 21-year-old centre-back has played alongside Sandro Tonali in Italy’s U21 set up and captains his country at youth level. He hails from Inter Milan’s academy and could make more sense given we are looking at a young, right-side centre-back able to learn from Fabian Schar.
