NUFC player ratings vs Luton – One 7, several 5s and 6s + three 4s

A really disappointing afternoon at Luton, where we were second best in all departments in yet another away defeat. Here’s the ratings from yesterday’s game:

Martin Dubravka – 7 – Made a few decent saves at 0-0 and even a 1-0 to keep us in the game. Couldn’t do anything about the goal. Get the feeling the defence are not as confident with him in goal rather than Pope, mind.

Kieran Trippier – 5.5 – Looked well off the pace in the first half on and off the ball. In desperate need of a break. Looked shattered from the first minute, not sharp and passing was well off it too. Did improve in the second half but couldn’t find the cutting edge needed.

Jamaal Lascelles – 5 – Played only 37 minutes before being forced off with an injury.

Fabian Schar – 5 – Came back from injury but struggled against a physical Luton side. Poor display from the Swiss who never looked comfortable with Luton’s direct football an committed a few silly fouls.

Dan Burn – 5 – Struggled to affect the game going forward, offering nothing in the oppositions half of the pitch. Won all of his aerial duels, but that was about it.

Bruno Guimaraes – 6 – Tried desperately to push us forward all afternoon but was lacking support from team mates at times. Missed a glorious opportunity with a first time finish in the second half from outside the box – should’ve scored.

Lewis Miley – 5 – Hooked just after half an hour for Isak in a brutal move from Howe as wasn’t injured. Didn’t actually think he was doing too badly and was unlucky.

Sean Longstaff – 4 – Couldn’t get in the game and set the tone from minute one when he broke into the Luton half but was challenged as took way too long to make a pass. Hasn’t reached his best since returning from injury and was off the pace again here.

Miguel Almiron – 4 – Offered no real threat going forward and the Luton back four knew exactly what he was going to do all afternoon. Maybe needs a rest? A really frustrating display.

Anthony Gordon – 5 – Struggled to get into the game. Nursing a knock which is holding him back from peak performance but we have no other options at the moment. Put one on a plate for Wilson at 0-0 which he couldn’t finish.

Callum Wilson – 4 – Hold up play left a lot to be desired at times. Missed from point blank range somehow in the first half with a header straight at the goalkeeper. You’d normally put your mortgage on him scoring those.

Substitutes:

Sven Botman – 6 – Offered a lot more control in the game but struggled to zip the ball into space in midfield.

Alexander Isak – 6.5 – Looked lively in the number 10 position. Always wanted to pick up the ball and run at defenders, more me that’s his best position. Took his disallowed goal beautifully with an emphatic finish but was millimetres offside.

Tino Livramento – 6 – Not sure why he didn’t start the game but offered a lot more energy and craft going forward. His direct running and dribbling can be very dangerous at times.

Lewis Hall – N/A – Played five minutes.
