Newcastle in talks with Championship club over January exit – The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden is in talks to sign for Preston North End after his loan move in Belgium was cut short.

It emerged last week that Hayden had returned to the club after spending six months with Standard Liege, where he made just 10 league appearances.

Newcastle must now decide what to do next with the 28-year-old, whose contract on Tyneside doesn’t expire until next summer, with a loan looking like the most likely scenario after links with a host of English clubs.

There’s been a number of sides in the second division who have shown interest in bringing the former Arsenal man temporarily, but Luke Edwards reports that Preston are in talks.

Hayden’s time at Newcastle looks to be over, but with the current midfield crisis, fresh fears over Joelinton’s injury and doubts over incomings due to FFP, a few fans on social media have asked if Eddie Howe will take another look.
