Pep Guardiola has revealed how much he admires Alexander Isak following his electric isplay last weekend, admitting “he was a target” of Man City’s prior to his club record move to St James’ Park.
Guardiola, who has just been named FIFA’s head coach of the year, is a huge fan of the Swedish international, who looks an unbelievable talent following 14 goals in 23 appearances this season.
Quality strikers are a rarity these days and Newcastle have done exceptionally well to get someone of Isak’s ability, but it could’ve been different as Guardiola claims City and scouted him at Real Sociedad.
On Isak, Guardiola said: “Since arriving, his impact has been really good. He had the conditions to be an incredible striker with his speed, his finishing.
“We started to follow him at Real Sociedad. We were impressed. He was a target. Wow. He is a young player but with these skills, all the clubs around the world take a look. It’s not a surprise and he’s adapted really well here in the Premier League. I don’t know him personally, but I admire him a lot.”
Behind Erling Haaland, Isak has made a good case for him to be the second best striker in the league and any kind of success Newcastle will have this season will largely rely on if he can stay fit.
