Sky Sports: Newcastle’s top six rivals now in talks to sign Man City’s Kalvin Phillips

According to Sky Sports, West Ham are in talks with Newcastle target Kalvin Phillips after our move to sign the English midfielder stalled.

It is believed that West Ham are discussing the terms of a potential loan deal with Manchester City for the former Leeds man.

Newcastle stalled their bid recently, after failing to agree terms for a loan move for Phillips with City requesting an obligation to buy at the end of the deal. Newcastle were also unhappy with the reported £7m loan fee quoted by the English champions.

Phillips has featured in just four Premier League matches this season, playing a combined 93 minutes and is looking to move for more minutes ahead of this summer’s Euros.

West Ham and Newcastle are joined in the chase for Phillips by Crystal Palace, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona. However, the Hammers have shown long-term interest – they attempted to sign the 28-year-old during his time at Leeds – and will be looking to boost their top-six hopes after three wins in their last five sent them sixth.

The need to bring in a new midfielder has intensified after the news of a potential season-ending injury for Joelinton, with fellow Brazilian Ederson watched by the club in Italy. But it seems we have cooled our interest in Phillips in hope Man City’s demands come down.
