Newcastle respond to Bayern Munich’s approach for Kieran Trippier – Keith Downie update

Sky Sports’ Keith Downie reports that Newcastle United have REJECTED Bayern Munich’s initial approach for Kieran Trippier.

He states that sources on Tyneside have indicated that Newcastle do not want to lose the right-back either on loan – even if it included an obligation to buy – or on a permanent deal.

However, Downie adds that Trippier ‘could be open to the move’, with this following on from Sky Germany reporting that the 33-year-old has already reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with the Bundesliga giants.

Others have suggested that our vice captain has already had his head turned and is eager to join Harry Kane in Germany, but it seems Newcastle have no intention to let him go over the final 10 days of the January window.

Could our stance change if Bayern come forward with a big offer? If Trippier really does want the move, could we be forced to seriously consider a sale? Who knows, but this is a rumour that has really gathered pace over the past 24 hours.

  2. Why would we sell him and if we did i’d be very upset with the board.
I mean look at his stats compared to other prem lge fullbacks

    Assists – 1st
    Shot assists – 1st
    Expected assists – 1st
    Crosses from right – 1st
    Key passes – 1st
    Forward passes – 1st
    Progressive passes – 1st
    Passes – 2nd
Passes to penalty area – 2nd
    Long passes – 2nd
    Interceptions – 3rd
Passes to final third – 3rd
    Through passes – 3rd
And there’s idiots on social media thinking it’s ok to get rid of him, i despair at our fans sometimes.

  3. Pork pie – totally agree mate & if Trippier was 28 or even 30 then it would be madness to even suggest it.

But he’s 34yr old this season & if it meant we could balance our books & keep the likes of Bruno, Botman & Isak and build a team around that spine – then as much as I love Trips and wouldn’t want to see him go – if it was done for the betterment of the future of the core group we’ve got together, then I think it would be the lesser of all evils imo.

Let’s not be naive here either by the way.

Trips the age he’s at might be keen on the move & another medal or 2 for his collection before he retires 🤷🏼‍♂️.

I hope a solution can be found where we can keep him & all of the players we’ve put together so far coz it’s a great group & Trips is a big part of that.

  4. For me he has been a fantastic signing and despite his obvious leadership skills he is on the decline at 34 pace wise and you wouldn’t expect anything different.
If the deal is right for the club now is the time to cash in.
We have done well to secure Livramento at a young age.
If Trippier goes he would go with the best wishes from all the supporters and the club with a massive thank you.

  5. Still think it would be madness to get rid in Jan if we were selling him and I think the problem with him is the same as everyone he’s exhausted not pace at all.
Also as a sidenote i hope this site doesn’t regurgitate the rubbish Craig Hope has posted today he’s a utter D##khead

  6. He was the last player I thought would leave, but at his age 34 for right back is not ideal, and we have 3 players for that position, we are short in midfield, so we lost Maxi now We will lose Trip, but I also can just seem him next season going injured most of the season, so best of luck Trip we will miss you,

  7. Sell him. He is past his prime. All the bigger teams sell key players, why should we be different. We need to keep evolving or we will drop further behind. One could argue that he leads a lot of those stats because he takes all our set peices. Be nice if someone else took a couple tbh. As long as we strengthen on the back of his sale, I have no issue with him going.

  8. Prokpie – I know selling him in Jan isn’t ideal but there may be no interest in the summer.

I’d be lying if I said I’m not a little uneasy with the idea – but I have to keep reminding myself this lot isn’t Ashley. If they were to sell Trippier it would be to reinvest & not just to turn a profit.

We have a young £40m RB waiting in the wings to take over and he’s already proven he’s up to the task.

I’m not saying we should necessarily be actively looking to sell Trippier by the way – only that we should be open to the idea & honest about his situation rather than be sentimental.

  9. What’s a “verbale agreement”?

He’s a 33 year old mistake prone dwarf.

I suspect he’s on his way.
