Late last night, The Mail’s Craig Hope revealed that Newcastle had rejected a shock loan offer from Atletico Madrid for striker Callum Wilson.
He added that our number nine could be sold if the La Liga giants returned with a permanent bid, adding that the 31-year-old would be open to talks if a deal could be agreed.
However, Fabrizio Romano has now issued an update on the situation, reporting that Atletico have decided to pursue a deal for Juventus forward Moise Kean and are ‘not currently’ working on a deal for Wilson after their loan bid was turned down.
It’s claimed Keane has verbally agreed to join the Spaniards, but his switch could depend on Angel Correa’s proposed move to Saudi side Al Ittihad.
So, it seems Wilson to Atletico is unlikely unless their move for Kean breaks down and they return to Newcastle with a permanent bid; or a loan that includes an obligation to buy this summer.
