Newcastle United are considering a late move for Club Brugge star Antonio Nusa, according to reports in Belgium.
This comes from HLN, who reckon we could hijack his proposed move to Brentford. The Bees have agreed a £25m fee for the highly-rated winger, but it emerged yesterday that the deal could collapse after issues during his medical.
The report adds that we’ve been following his situation closely in ‘recent days’ and could ‘take advantage of the opportunity.’
The Athletic’s David Ornstein has already confirmed our interest in the 18-year-old, so it seems we are genuine admirers. However, I have my doubts about this one.
Firstly, are we really going to pursue a player when medical tests have put Brentford off due to a potentially serious knee problem? He may be one for the future and a potential bargain if he comes good, but medical issues would surely be a red flag, not something that would encourage us to hijack a deal.
Secondly, it’s well documented that we must sell to buy this month. Eddie Howe said as much in Monday’s press conference. Not only that, it seems like Miguel Almiron is staying after Al-Shabab failed to reach an agreement, so the need to sign another winger this window has reduced significantly, especially when Harvey Barnes is close to returning.
Who knows, perhaps these big claims from Belgium are being used to push Brentford? After all, they may be more likely to sign off this deal and take the risk if they fear Newcastle will come in and pinch their man.
He’s failed a medical, so we are going after him?
Come on Olly, why are you even mentioning this?
