Blackburn v Newcastle: FA confirm details of FA Cup Fifth Round tie

Newcastle’s FA Cup Fifth Round tie will be played on Tuesday 27 February at 7.45pm as the FA confirmed details of dates, times and which matches would be televised in the next round of the historic competition.

The match will be shown live on BBC One, meaning it is likely Toon legend Alan Shearer will be on punditry duties for the match between two of his former clubs.

Newcastle’s record goalscorer won the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers in 1995.

Newcastle travel to Ewood Park for the first time since January 2019 when extra-time goals from Spaniards Joselu and Ayoze Perez were needed as the Toon beat Rovers 4-2 in an FA Cup Third Round replay.

The game is sandwiched between league games away at Arsenal and at home against Wolves and represents a chance for Eddie Howe’s Mags to progress past the Fifth Round for only the third time since 2005/06.

This season is the first time Eddie Howe has taken Newcastle past the Third Round, beating Sunderland and Fulham so far to set up the tie at Blackburn. The FA Cup is the Toon’s last chance of silverware this season after bowing out of the Champions League in the group stage and losing on penalties to Chelsea in the quarter-final of the Carabao Cup.
