Alexander Isak injury update – The news we’ve been waiting for after Callum Wilson blow?

According to The Mail’s Craig Hope, Alexander Isak is ‘close’ to returning from a groin problem and has an outside chance of being involved in Saturday’s game against Bournemouth.

With the news that Callum Wilson will now require surgery on his pectoral tendon and be out for three months, Newcastle are light on fit strikers and can’t afford to have the Swede on the sidelines much longer.

It may not be worth risking Isak this weekend, as we could not afford to bring him back too early and aggravate his troublesome groin issue that’s seen him miss a handful of games this season.

However, the fact he’s now nearing a comeback suggests he’ll certainly be fine for next weekend’s trip to Arsenal and our FA Cup clash with Blackburn a few days later.

It simply has to be a priority to bring in a new forward in the summer. While Wilson and Isak are both reliable Premier League forwards when available, they cannot be relied on to stay fit for a full season.
