According to The Athletic, Newcastle United trio Ryan Fraser, Jamal Lewis and Isaac Hayden could be asked to train with the U21s if they don’t find new clubs over the comings days.
Pre-season training is due to commence in the coming days, with the majority of players who haven’t been away on international duty expected back soon.
Fraser has ‘agreed a deal’ with Southampton after his successful loan spell ended in promotion, but that permanent move is yet to be finalised with a few details to sort.
He and Lewis have both entered the final 12 months of their contracts at the club, with the former Norwich talent due back on Tyneside after Watford turned down their chance to sign the left-back on a permanent deal following his loan.
Hayden is also available and trying to be moved on, with the midfielder still having two years left on his deal after returning from loan spells at Standard Liege and QPR last term.
It may seem like a brutal move to send all three into the U21 setup if they aren’t gone by the end of the week, but it’s clear that Howe wants his first-team group to be full of players who are in his plans, ensuring those with no future at the club don’t mix with those expected to be part of our squad for the 2024/25 season.

“….asked to train with the U21s” or TOLD to train with the U21s?
I don’t see them being given an option. That’s not how the club is run.

How the f*CK does Hayden still have two years left on his contract? I presume he was given one of those ridiculously long contracts that Ashley inexplicably gave out.

I agree its right to send these 3 to the under 21’s as it makes it clear they arent involved but why aren’t we clear with the likes of Miggy etc. to encourage them to take moves elsewhere
