So is it alright to dream yet?

Aim high
Staying grounded is something I’m pretty good at. My parents say that I’m cold and sometimes heartless, but I very seldom find myself getting overly excited about things. Conversely I find myself rarely getting too down about things. I can’t help it. You can even call it boring if you like!

This of course applies to everything including Newcastle United. Don’t get me wrong, I get angry when we lose, disappointed, hurt and so on, but I soon pick myself up and dust myself down ready for more. Likewise when things are going well, I tend to not get overly carried away with and sit in wait in anticipation of the next bombshell dropping.

However you can’t help but look at the league table and have a bit of a dream can you? I mean with 15 games to go we are in the box seat for Europe. Granted there is a long way to go still, but at the moment we are there and we still have our big hitters to slot back in the team. It’s pretty mad really. So the question is, are you allowing yourself to dream yet?

I’ll make it easier for you. How about a bit of encouragement from our Club Captain and our Manager?

“It’s good to win in this way, and we know now that we can have dreams because we’re one point, maybe two points, away from the total you need to be safe,” said Fabricio Coloccini after the Blackburn game.

“That’s good, because we can look forward. Why not dream about playing in a European cup? I think it is okay to dream – but only if we keep winning,” he added.

Maybe a case of Colo-dreamy instead of Coloccini!

How about Alan Pardew? Is he keeping calm? Well kind of, although he admits that the team could achieve “something special” this season.

“It’s a great opportunity now. We’re fifth, and above Arsenal and Liverpool. It’s incredible. We’ve got to try and keep it going, and chase Chelsea down,” Pardew told the Chronicle.

He added: “It’s all to play for. We’ve got 15 cup finals. We’ve got 39 points, and we’re safe. We’ve done one job, and hopefully we can achieve something special.”

So what do you reckon? Should we be aiming for Chelsea? They are in our sites after all? Bowburnmag (RIP) used to tell me all the time to “aim for the stars and even if you miss you’ll land on the moon.”

Well Steve, I think you’re bang on the money!

  1. Knowing Mike though lads, if we get into Europe, we’ll be taking a bus or go by Virgin Trains (thanks to our friend, Mr Branson, we might even get it for free) so the lads will be knackered because Ashley couldn’t be bothered paying for fuel for his private jet. 🙄

  2. TOON IN BOSTON – Tottenham and City are the sole reason for a lower points average this year. Both teams are dramatically improving and taking points from teams they wouldn’t have last season. I’d like to say we’ve also contributed to this too.

  3. last season
    1 Manchester United 80
    2 Chelsea 71
    3 Manchester City 71
    4 Arsenal 68
    5 Tottenham 62
    6 Liverpool 58

    73 will take us to 2nd 🙂

never thought of it that way, so if you think about it, you need a strong team to beat the European giants, but that will mean nothing if you don’t have strong team spirit, which manu and city didn’t have (also they played us before europe so were knackered  ) we have this and could beat inter milan if we truly gave 110%.

yes, I didnt think of that after spending a couple of hours on microsoft Paint. 😯

I might try and improve it..

  8. MORENO, sorry you feel that way.
Ok I’ll accept everything you say then, even though it totally goes against my beliefs.
    I think not.

Here’s a little story for you.

When I was a little kid, I said to my mother, “bye Mam, I’m off to Nana’s to help her with her chores”…
My brother said to me” I don’t like Nana because whenever I do stuff for her, she never gives me any money or sweets most of the time and always says thanks for helping but she doesn’t have any pennies to spare this week”

I said to my brother” oh I know, she hardly gives me anything either but I understand that she’s not well off and she has bills to pay and things but when she can afford it, she always gets me a treat but I don’t do it for money, I do it unconditionally.”

He said”well I don’t like her, so I can’t see why you should like her because I think shes mean and is taking advantage of our good nature”

I said ” look kidder, if you don’t like Nana, then fair enough but you’re not gonna make me dislike her as I have my own mind and I think shes doing her best and will reward me when she is in a position to do that”

My brother walked away shouting ” well I’m not talking to you anymore Wolfie because you won’t accept my way and you are too head strong.

I shouted “bye bye bruv” 😀

The moral of the story is sometimes people think you have to share their views but how can you if they both differ?

Also, those that say they can’t have a conversation with another because they always think they’re right and won’t listen to the other side forget that they are doing the very same thing.

Now I think Ashley is fantastic for this club, he is our saviour and my own personal view is, he should be applauded from the rooftops for what he’s done for us after messing up in the early part.

I know he messed up earlier and I know he told porkies but I don;t hold a petty attitude of not trusting him based on a spat with Keegan and a few lies told and the fact he doesn’t communicate to the fans.

I’m interested in having a club to support and a team that makes me feel good and keeps me smiling and also having a manager that isn’t up his own **** and I think he’s providing me with that so who am I to complain. 😀

No matter how many times you tell them the earth wasn’t created in 7 days 10k years ago and show them scientific facts about evolution, they look at you with conviction and tell you they have faith.

    It’s worrying actually. 😯

Let’s just agree to disagree as it’ll just be a constant battle which I really don’t think the blog needs. I am not forcing my point upon you and trying to beat you into submission which you are attempting to imply.

“Ok I’ll accept everything you say then, even though it totally goes against my beliefs.
    I think not.”

Pretty much sums it up, you are very militant in your views.

I’ve been read that Newcastle are having a clear out in the summer, looking to spend £15m on young uns to strengthen the group coming through. I think, if its true, then that’s brilliant news and will really move our club forward.

If we can pin Colo, Guthrie and Simmo down to new contracts. Look to bring about 3-4 new first team players in and clear a couple out, I really don’t see why we can kick on and do a Spurs.

Let’s keep the players we have now together, write this stupid buy out clause out of Bas contract, and I also believe that Mr Pardew should be slightly better paid than he is now.

  21. MORENO, I know you have your views and I don;t want to even try to change that and it’s all just debate with me and long stories of course 😆

Anyway, I’ve always been stubborn in my views but if I see somoeone’s point I’ll tell them I do.
I don’t dismiss anyone’s view because it differs to mine, I just counter argue it if my view is the opposite, the same as I expect someone to counter argue mine.
One thing I’m not here for though is to rock anyone’s boat so don’t take anything I say as anything other than banter. 😀

  22. Wolfie, Ditto mate.

Never any bad feeling, it’s all banter yet I just have to keep a leash on myself when it comes to the Ashley debate because it tends to swallow everything else and people get a bit upset. 😆 It’s not that I don’t want a good chat with you, it’s just my views have been the same for a long time and I have said the same thing till I am blue in the face.

We are obviously both stubborn and shouldn’t get started 😉

He then plays him on the wing last night and obviously thought at halftime having took 10 cowies, that he can’t play out wide.

  31. Troy, I think HBA’s time will come, he is still getting to know how the PL works. I also think he needs to be played further up the field where he can really hurt the opposition with his dribbling skills.

Not sure where he will fit in though once the Demba Boys hit town, but it’ll be great to have him as an impact sub, who can come on and change the game with his trickery.

Pardew does like to talk the talk though… 😎

  33. I can tell you all that when me Nana turned up her well worn out slippers, we all sat round her bed with pegs on our noses as she was always a little bit whiffy ammonia wise, if you get my meaning.

Anyway, she laid there and said David……..that’s my name by the way…
    I said, “I’m here Nana”
Terry……….my brothers name……”I’m here Nana” he said.

She said ” ok boys I have 2 sealed envelopes , one for each of you and they mustn’t be opened until you are both 18″
My brother asked her why does he have to wait till he’s 18 .

So Nana told him it was because, at 18, he would be responsible enough to gain the benefits of what was inside.

I promised my Nana that I would keep to her will and she smiled at me and patted me on the head and said,” you’re a good boy David”
She looked at Terry and said” do you promise Terry” and Terry said “yes” but with his fingers crossed behind his back.

Nana popped her slippers not long after and I remember sobbing weirdly, until I realised that it’s hard to sob with a peg on my nose, so I took it off.

Terry Immediately opened his envelope and inside was a CONDOM….My Nana’s last laugh on him for hating her.

I waited until my 18th birthday and then opened my envelope to find the deeds to Alnwick castle and also the land owners deeds to Holy island as well as her collection of Rolls Royces, Bentley’s and her prized pristine well maintained fleet of Farrari’s, all 30 of them, plus the deeds to 56 mansions spread all around the world and also a note that said….
TO David, the apple of my eye, enjoy your wealth, you earned it….p.s ,give Terry my old slippers. 😯

  36. I think there is a place for HBA out right, with Tiote and Cabaye centre mid, Jonas out left, and the Demba Boys up front. What an immense line up, cannae wait to see it !!

      (Quote)

  37. Wolfie – Happy endings. But tell us more. Did you give Terry anything? What’s he doing now?

      (Quote)

  38. Mark – I don’t trust anyone now, and this blog can only work on trust. Is Wolfie for real? Did his gran really leave him all those riches? Did Terry end up a pauper? This is bigger than Cluedo, and the blog could go viral. Good to know that Toonsy very seldom finds himself getting overly excited about things.

  39. Moreno…waddaya reckon, quite a mouth watering prospect there eh ? Next year we’ll see the real HBA. I think we are perhaps a couple of signings away from having a real good side.. Looking forward to Marveaux making a return too…

  42. MM,

I think their is enough talent and players who can interchange positions for us to look like a top European side. We have an absolute wealth of attacking options when they are all fit. I think the theory against Fulham and Brighton was to have Barfa and Jonas interchanging positions so the defence were in disarray but it just never seemed to happen

      (Quote)

  43. moreno and troy @ , I wonder what the percentage is in pro MA and anti MA ? What do you lads think , obviously with the team doing well there will be more pro than the relegation season for example .
But none of the lads i go to match with think hes our saviour thats for sure , what do you think ?

I reckon Troy is really Thad because of their similar personalities and Toonsy is Rotary Vests while Wolfie is pretending to be me while typing as Rod.. I’m so confused atm..

      (Quote)

  45. i’d like an article on whether MA would of sold Tiote and Krul / Cabaye had he received an offer 😯

Or do we already know the answer to that?

      (Quote)

  46. Keith,

I dunno if it is as clear cut as pro and anti. A lot of people sit on the fence and a hell of a lot of people I know hate Ashley without knowing anything about the club or football whatsoever, they’re just from the town and feel like that’s the right thing to feel!

I just always think of The Who’s – We Won’t Get Fooled Again when I think of this regime, I get on my knees and pray…..

      (Quote)

  47. @keith

I think you’d be right but if asked whether they’re happy with the team under him atm it would also be 80/20

Don’t be thinking I actually like the bloke. I like our team, which to an extent he had some say in it..

      (Quote)

  48. Keith…they’ll also be a percentage who are indifferent. they’ll be varying degrees of anti/pro Ashley….those at the far end of the scale will be a minority, the majority will sit somewhere in the middle

Also…when things are going well it tends to be the players who get all the praise, less so the manager & even less so the ‘board’ but when it’s bad it’s the complete opposite…the truth is they all succeed or fail together, ashley was rightly criticised for shambles that was our delegation season but should be praised for his part in where we are now (same goes for the players & managers)

    Crass.

  52. I’m a bit of a butterfly me self when it comes to Ashley.

Half the things he’s done have been brilliant for the club , the other half have been very detrimental. Most most of his mistakes have been in his early ownership… So I have to believe he’s “growing”…

Don’t get me wrong, he doesn’t do it for “us fans”, its all about money for himself and free branding for SD. But no body can deny we’re now on the up… So until his next balls up (which I anticipate). I’m on team Ashley 😀
