Game On! Newcastle v Fenerbahce

The supersonic Sonnenseestadion
I’m well aware that his article is a bit early as the game this evening doesn’t actually kick-off until 6:30pm (UK time), but I’ve done it to give you some time to take advantage of an offer to help you view the game.

For those of you who already subscribe to the FULL Sky Sports pack, they are offering ESPN free for three months which comes in especially handy as the game tonight is live on ESPN and so are our first two Premier League games of the season.

It is free, I’ve just done it myself, but you must make sure you give 31 days notice before the end of the three moth trial or else you’ll end up getting charged £10 a month for the channel. However, if the offer isn’t up your street then I’m sure you’ll be able to catch it online somewhere and I dare say the comments section below will have a few links where you will be able to watch the game so all is not lost.

Anyway game three of pre-season will see us travel deep into Austria to a place called Ritzing which is located close to the Hungarian border. The match was of course originally scheduled to be played in Hungary but for whatever reason the venue has been changed and the 4,000 capacity Sonnenseestadion will play host to the game instead.

Tim Krul is scheduled to make his first appearance of pre-season, as is Fabricio Coloccini, although Papiss Cisse hasn’t recovered from illness enough to feature. He is getting better though as he was pictured with the rest of the squad doing some “team building” the other day.

Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye are still on holiday after their participation at EURO 2012, Steven Taylor is training once again although is unlikely to feature while the whereabouts of Shane Ferguson are now known – he is on Tyneside as a precaution after picking up a minor groin problem and should link back up with the squad for their trip to Portugal in a week.

Fenerbahce are likely to take this fairly seriously and have some big hitting players that we need to be wary of. Dirk Kuyt and Moussa Sow are ones to watch and the pair will be looking to increase their sharpness ahead of their 3rd Round Champions League Qualifier against Romanian outfit FC Vaslui which will take place in ten days time.

Both teams should be starting to look a bit sharper although, much like we’ve seen in the previous two friendlies, I expect to see some rotation and for a fair amount of players to get a run out. Again I’m not overly concerned about the result and won’t get too disheartened/carried away whatever, but I would like to see a good display with some good performances thrown in for good measure.

Team news will be added below as soon as I can get my grubby hands on it…

Howay the lads!

  1. Sameobi is looking decent! As for Shola.. 😳

Got a gut feeling that we aren’t going to sign Debuchy. Second game in a row we’ve played Santon at right back, so maybe we’re pursuing a left back instead ❓ Hopefully I’ll jinx it and Debuchy will sign tomorrow 😉

  2. Cissé looks in great touch. More and more impressed with bigirimana the more i see him

  3. Mike Ashley deserves credit for not selling us even though he tried to and failed?

    Sorry what? Bloody ESPN gobshites

    **** sakes as well

  4. ST
Was thinking the same thing. Bit odd that he would play him at RB with Raylor there available to play there(his natural position). 🙄

  5. Bloody last kick no less 😡 , we only needed to keep the ball for 30 more seconds 🙄 . Well one loss, one win and one draw, that nicely wraps up our German-Hungarian tour 😕 .

  6. Newkie @ 159 yeah they did come off with a lot of **** that they knew fuk all about, as I said earlier I have never heard anyone dislike Colo because of his hair do 😳

  7. Shame we couldn’t hang on at the end. Obertan was woefull ,sorry but I don’t see any point in keeping him . So hoped he’d come good but it just ain’t happening . TBH since when as Fergie let a real gem go ?, no flies on him.

  8. Could the commentator be Leroy Rosenior ?
Either way, they both blathered absolute gash the whole game…

What a poor goal to concede in the last minute…. 👿

The young lad Biriani looked absolutely immense for an 18 year old. What a signing, well done Pardew.

  9. Dave-Aye remember them saying that, christ know’s what they were on about. How it was bad for him when he joined us but now its a positive thing? Eh? Its just his bloody hair!

  10. Aye Big D, that’s the lad, an absolute legend in his own lunch break.. set the world on fire at QPR from what I recall… Icedog will know though for sure, he goes back a lot further than thee and me 😉

  11. Vukic seems to be stagnating, he needs to find his true position, it sure aint up front along side the striker, the lad cannot finish… 😥

      (Quote)

  12. I thought young Tavernier had a good game, he’ll be knocking on the first team door in a year or so… good prospect… That’s Cashley put his 10 mill for Debuchy back in his pocket..

  13. MM he might be too recent for Ice 😆
As for Vuckic I said today and before when people say that he will step up for us that he’s not ready him like a few of our other younguns need a long loan to get proper footie, other wise they will just waste away, but sure we’ might need them 😕

      (Quote)

  14. Only saw the first 30 minutes but that tavernier (or whatever he’s called) looks a very good player…might not need a centre back after all?

      (Quote)

  15. Vuckic needs serious loan time, we should never have called him back from Cardiff imo, unless both Cisse and Ba got crocked like 😕

      (Quote)

  16. Witters-he’s tidy in defence, problem is his stature for me. If we had him and Colo we’d be very vulnerable to set pieces and the like.

  17. Big Dave – Thought sammy wouldn’t make it. Too much of a light weight.

  18. Be warned. If Troy gets on here tonight, he’s hammered. He missed most of the second half because he was too busy raging at 9am vodka swilling doleys from Scotsy waiting on their Thursday “pay” who can’t get to the job centre because they’ve got an appointment with their probation officer.

      (Quote)

  19. B+B @ 189 😆 😆 😆
As for Sammy its early yet I do think he has a lot of potential but makes lots of stupid mistakes at times but he’s still young so hopefully his footie brain will develop 😉

MM have you been picking on young Ice again

      (Quote)

  20. Big Dave – Sammy certainly showed some promise tonight. He could do a job for us this season if he continues to play like that.

Reet. Lets see what’s left of Pirates of the Caribbean

  23. Ice I haven’t been on there in yonks glad to here it though 😉

Yeah you know what Richie is like holding down a job, but I think he realized that he was crossing the line of no return, as I told him he would loss what few friends he has 😉

      (Quote)

  24. DAVE you did wise to tell richie, poor lad must be easy led,kna i dont go on eds but sometimes have a bit read just saw his write-up on the side of his site about his treatment.ive always said elliot was pardews only bad buy but that oberton is running him a close 2nd 🙁

Sat 04.08.2012 ADO Den Haag (a) 5pm (local)

Den Haag are selling tickets now and replied to emails from Newcastle followers by saying that away section tickets will be available to buy at the stadium on match day from 11am at the main ticket office.

Prices are €12.50 on the Haaglandentribune (side) and €10 on the Aad Mansveldtribune (behind the goal). The Kyocera Stadium has a claimed capacity of 16,000.

  29. RICHIETOON i ordered the tickets on the internet and the tickets have already been paid for , the away end was not available on their website . Have talked to some Ado Den Haag fans and they say it could be that its not segregated being a frendily . If not , i will sneak into the stadium and then ask the police if they can relocate me into the away end , or get me heed kicked in , but like i say out for the cause . It does help that i live here for the last 21 years and speak fluent dutch , even though its with a geordie accent .

  37. Good to see Abeid get a goal and hopefully full of confidence for the next game. I think Vuckic and Gosling are in danger of being overtaken by Mehdi Abeid if they don’t pull their fingers out. I am interested to see what this Amalfitano is like aswell.
