Game On! Newcastle v Fenerbahce

The supersonic Sonnenseestadion
I’m well aware that his article is a bit early as the game this evening doesn’t actually kick-off until 6:30pm (UK time), but I’ve done it to give you some time to take advantage of an offer to help you view the game.

For those of you who already subscribe to the FULL Sky Sports pack, they are offering ESPN free for three months which comes in especially handy as the game tonight is live on ESPN and so are our first two Premier League games of the season.

It is free, I’ve just done it myself, but you must make sure you give 31 days notice before the end of the three moth trial or else you’ll end up getting charged £10 a month for the channel. However, if the offer isn’t up your street then I’m sure you’ll be able to catch it online somewhere and I dare say the comments section below will have a few links where you will be able to watch the game so all is not lost.

Anyway game three of pre-season will see us travel deep into Austria to a place called Ritzing which is located close to the Hungarian border. The match was of course originally scheduled to be played in Hungary but for whatever reason the venue has been changed and the 4,000 capacity Sonnenseestadion will play host to the game instead.

Tim Krul is scheduled to make his first appearance of pre-season, as is Fabricio Coloccini, although Papiss Cisse hasn’t recovered from illness enough to feature. He is getting better though as he was pictured with the rest of the squad doing some “team building” the other day.

Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye are still on holiday after their participation at EURO 2012, Steven Taylor is training once again although is unlikely to feature while the whereabouts of Shane Ferguson are now known – he is on Tyneside as a precaution after picking up a minor groin problem and should link back up with the squad for their trip to Portugal in a week.

Fenerbahce are likely to take this fairly seriously and have some big hitting players that we need to be wary of. Dirk Kuyt and Moussa Sow are ones to watch and the pair will be looking to increase their sharpness ahead of their 3rd Round Champions League Qualifier against Romanian outfit FC Vaslui which will take place in ten days time.

Both teams should be starting to look a bit sharper although, much like we’ve seen in the previous two friendlies, I expect to see some rotation and for a fair amount of players to get a run out. Again I’m not overly concerned about the result and won’t get too disheartened/carried away whatever, but I would like to see a good display with some good performances thrown in for good measure.

Team news will be added below as soon as I can get my grubby hands on it…

Howay the lads!

  1. Oh so it is kim 😳 my bad, looks the same with a brief glance, the aussie commentators should have probably given it away. 🙄

  2. The timer counts down instead of up in ozzie rules, just noticed, what a backwards society 😐

  3. Andy for random friendlies they just cut straight into the match, no pre match coverage

  4. Dave – The lad is sound mate. Nearly 14 weeks old now though. Scary 😯

He’ll be out getting pissed before long and phoning me to pick him up 😆

  5. What a weird sport, coulda sworn it was on 2 1/2 minutes before. How does it work 😕 ❓ Wonder if aussie knows?

I assume he’ll be raised in the typical Geordie style so that’ll be in 8-9 years 😉
Wow, why are they soo scrowny? Thought it was a contact sport 😕

  10. Tiote is a beast  😀 .

Fecking commentators ,got to mention how lucky we will be to still have Tiote at start of the season 👿 🙄

  11. Tiote just seems to get better and better..I swear Cabaye is teaching him to cross/pass long distance, and Benny is giving him footwork lessons 😛

  12. Must have been raining, Simpson got up and I didn’t realise our strip had white stripes for a sec 😕

  13. Raylors set pieces really are overrated. He can shoot, but I don’t miss his corners or lofted free kicks..

I see we’re trying to do the same tactics from corners as well…they didn’t work last season, can’t we try summit else 😕

  14. Newkie
I agree, the sooner HBA and cabaye are back the better, even tiote is better at crossing than raylor now.

  15. I think Raylor delivers a great dead ball. He’s still a bit rusty at the moment.

  16. Is anyone else getting a little nervous about the fact that Saylor still hasn’t had a run out yet ? The new season kicks off in 4 weeks… 🙄

  17. Andy-To be fair, even Cabaye seemed ineffective last year. I’m not really sure what it is. Maybe it was getting used to the Barton/Carroll combo that made them both look better than they were…but I swear we scored about one corner goal and no goals from a lofted free kick at all last season? We still have lads like Colo, Staylor, Ba and Bambi so you’d have thought we could grab a few more..

  18. Big D…I know mate, but in 4 weeks time he’l have Adebayor and the rest jumping aaal ower him. I’d be happier if his progress was a couple of weeks further forward.

I fear Willo starting along side Collo against Spuds 🙁

  19. MM thats one of the main things that pisses me off we have needed another good CB for a couple of windows but still haven’t got one

  20. Big D, i WATCHED THE YOUTUBE VID OF dOUGLAS EARLIER ON; AND i#M NOT SURE IF HE IS THE answer to be honest. Looks like a reet heed the ball… 🙁

  23. The commentator isnt very professional “GO on shoot” he’s 30yrds out ya numpty 😕
GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve got hope for Abeid now, reckon he should get more of a run-out next season.
