Game On! Newcastle v Fenerbahce

The supersonic Sonnenseestadion
I’m well aware that his article is a bit early as the game this evening doesn’t actually kick-off until 6:30pm (UK time), but I’ve done it to give you some time to take advantage of an offer to help you view the game.

For those of you who already subscribe to the FULL Sky Sports pack, they are offering ESPN free for three months which comes in especially handy as the game tonight is live on ESPN and so are our first two Premier League games of the season.

It is free, I’ve just done it myself, but you must make sure you give 31 days notice before the end of the three moth trial or else you’ll end up getting charged £10 a month for the channel. However, if the offer isn’t up your street then I’m sure you’ll be able to catch it online somewhere and I dare say the comments section below will have a few links where you will be able to watch the game so all is not lost.

Anyway game three of pre-season will see us travel deep into Austria to a place called Ritzing which is located close to the Hungarian border. The match was of course originally scheduled to be played in Hungary but for whatever reason the venue has been changed and the 4,000 capacity Sonnenseestadion will play host to the game instead.

Tim Krul is scheduled to make his first appearance of pre-season, as is Fabricio Coloccini, although Papiss Cisse hasn’t recovered from illness enough to feature. He is getting better though as he was pictured with the rest of the squad doing some “team building” the other day.

Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye are still on holiday after their participation at EURO 2012, Steven Taylor is training once again although is unlikely to feature while the whereabouts of Shane Ferguson are now known – he is on Tyneside as a precaution after picking up a minor groin problem and should link back up with the squad for their trip to Portugal in a week.

Fenerbahce are likely to take this fairly seriously and have some big hitting players that we need to be wary of. Dirk Kuyt and Moussa Sow are ones to watch and the pair will be looking to increase their sharpness ahead of their 3rd Round Champions League Qualifier against Romanian outfit FC Vaslui which will take place in ten days time.

Both teams should be starting to look a bit sharper although, much like we’ve seen in the previous two friendlies, I expect to see some rotation and for a fair amount of players to get a run out. Again I’m not overly concerned about the result and won’t get too disheartened/carried away whatever, but I would like to see a good display with some good performances thrown in for good measure.

Team news will be added below as soon as I can get my grubby hands on it…

Howay the lads!

  1. Didnt realise Kuyt had gone there, quite a strike-force with him and Sow. Will probably win the league next year.

Aye, was struggling to remember another Turkish side. They were the ones that inquired about Ba but said he wasn’t as good as Elmander weren’t they?

  4. Indeed Ice, in Sky’s defence though their Ts&Cs on the ESPN offer says “information correct as from 20th July” so I think this offer must’ve just appeared yesterday.

Nee wurries, I’ve just ended up paying 9 quid for the Monaco and Fenerbahce games. I’ll just take advantage of this offer on 1st August.

Good news all round for any Sky Sports subscribing Toon fans though!

Aye apparently he wanted loads more than Galastray were willing to give him contract wise, fair-due Id want a lot of money to play in Turkey, and I wouldn’t even consider a Russian or Polish side if I was black, doesn’t matter what ya pay me, I’d say no.

Should be a good test for us tonight tho, I’d like to see Marv get a decent amount of game time tonight as well.

  11. Ice, cheers for asking asking mate, still not got a job. Keeping busy though, something’s gona drop soon I think. Got mi fingers in enough pies. 😯 Done a few weeks freelance and got a couple of ‘self-employed’ jobs going on, also waiting to hear back from one company about a potential trial period which could lead to full-time, and I’ve got an interview on Wednesday with a new contact. I know they’re only interviewing me and one other as well so I’m halfway there on that one.

…it’s taking time, but my dogged persistence will get something eventually. Fucking difficult juggling all my financial commitments but I’ve managed to keep on top of it all by the hairs of my ****. Filled in more fucking forms this last 6months than I have in my whole life!

I’m off now mate anyway, most probably be back on talking utter ***** later. 😎
