Three Players Newcastle Could Sign in the Summer

Hurrah! The magpies are back! One brief stint in the Championship and the big-time beckons once more.

Rafael Benítez is a hero and the whole Toon army will be out in full force next season with expectations set very high even before a ball has been kicked.

Optimism is rightly on the up at St James Park for next season as arguably the squad that won the Championship is stronger than the side that were relegated from it 12 months ago.

However, the Premier League is a tough beast to tame and like betting at sites such as http://casinoglobal.info/ it is important to retain a strong hand.

Newcastle’s lofty ambitions will appeal to a whole host of players in the summer transfer window but who could they snap up?

Jermaine Defoe – Sunderland

This one has been on the radar a while and would make perfect sense despite the Sunderland link.

Few would label Defoe a traitor if he made the short trip to St James Park after being one of only two players to come out of Sunderland’s dismal campaign with any credibility (Jordan Pickford being the other).

16 goals in 40 appearances for Sunderland this season has proven that despite being 34, Defoe can still cut it at the very top.

Dwight Gale still has a little to prove in the top flight but Defoe could turn out to be the perfect back-up (or even starter) to fire the Magpies to safety first, then who knows where!

Christian Atsu – Chelsea

Granted, talented midfielder Atsu is currently at the club but the Chelsea man’s loan deal is up.

Atsu has impressed in his 32 league appearances this season and has been a big reason as to why Newcastle are returning so quickly back to the top.

A transfer between the two clubs has been rumoured for quite some time now with Chelsea monitoring the situation on the 25-year-old Ghanaian throughout the campaign.

However, now it appears the Blues may be prepared to allow the transfer to happen in a move that will please the fans.

Efe Ambrose – Celtic

28-year-old Nigerian defender Efe Ambrose would provide some serious height across the Benitez’s back four.

The Celtic man has been on loan at Hibernian recently and is rumoured to want away with the Magpies keen to make the move happen.

Ambrose has 51 caps for Nigeria and knows his way around the defensive areas of the pitch.

He provide height and experience and be a useful squad player in a long season.
