Money CAN buy you love……

Andy Carroll

Andy Carroll
Gone, soon to be forgotten.
Andy Carroll is on the verge of joining Liverpool from his boyhood team in a move that is said to be valued upwards of £35 million.

If you sit back and look at it, it’s fantastic money and is probably far in excess if his real value, but then again you could always argue that the potential of Carroll could mean that the price is a fair valuation based upon his age and how much he could improve.

Whatever.

It’s a massive kick in the bollocks from a player who regulalry used to tell us all how he was living the dream playing for his hometown club and wearing the number nine shirt. He talked of emulating Shearer and looking forward to the future at Newcastle United and only recently signed a new five-year deal with the club.

The rhetoric was that Carroll was not for sale during this window, and the club rebuffed numerous bids for the up-and-coming striker including the one that was eventually accepted. In the end, Carroll took the decision into his own hands and handed in a transfer request which the club ‘reluctantly accepted’ according to a brief statement.

The first time that someone flashed a bit of cash in the face of Carroll he walked out. Some may not blame him for that, even I don’t to an extent, but I would have liked to have seen a bit more loyalty from a player that has spent time in the headlines for the wrong reasons more often than he has been in there for the right reasons.

Court cases, arrests, allegations, off-field trouble or whatever, the club, and the fans, stuck by him. Loyalty, on this occasion, appears to have only worked one way.

What has pissed me off more than anything is that it has left us very little time to do anything in the transfer market to try and replace Carroll. Sure he will be a miss, but he isn’t bigger than the club and Newcastle United will live to fight another day.

No doubt he will pass his medical and go on to be a very good player, but no matter how much money the guy has it will never change the fact that he has turned his back on his own after flanelling off an entire fanbase with his cheap talk.

I note that Carroll’s advisors contacted Sky Sports to reveal that the decision made by Carroll was “an emotional one” but never mind eh? I’m sure the cash will help sooth the pain in your Liverpool slums.

The Beatles, another bunch of scouse shitbags, once penned a song called ‘Can’t buy me love’, with the preceeding word being money……

In the case of Carroll it appears it can.

  1. Stephen Ireland has joined Newcastle United in a loan move until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old Irish international arrives from Aston Villa, who he joined in the close-season from Manchester City.

Midfielder Ireland was voted City’s player of the year two seasons ago but has been unfortunate with injury at Villa Park.

He made his debut for The Villans at St. James’ Park in August, as United ran out 6-0 winners, but has not played in the league since the turn of the year.

But Magpies manager Alan Pardew believes the temporary move will allow him to rediscover his form.

Pardew said: “Stephen has shown over the past few seasons that he’s a real top player so we’re really pleased to have got him until the end of the season.

“As a creative midfielder he can create chances for others and score goals himself, and we think he can be a big factor for us in the second part of this season.

“I think Stephen feels he can deliver more than he’s shown at Villa so far, so he’s got a point to prove and I believe we can reap the benefits of that.”

  2. All I have ever wanted to do is play for Newcastle,”“That’s been the case since I was a teenager, playing for the juniors and deserves, and it’s still the same now.

“Every time I pull on the black and white shirt – and even more so now that I have number nine on my back – it means the world to me so to be able to do that for at least the next five years is brilliant.”

F**K ME reading that makes me want to punch the computer. That was a f**king quick 5 years Judas

Disagree i reckon he will waste his talent ala Gazza, Fall down the leagues and probably end up in a wirral council flat, snorting crack and wearing an old 80s Liverpool top and primark tracky bottoms covered in **** and vomit… 👿

  4. I’m glad I never bothered getting Carroll on the back of my shirt now. To be honest it’s something I’ve never bothered with, but with Carroll I thought he would be around for a while….. Apparently not.

I might just get ‘toonsy’ on my back. I mean I know I’ll never turn my back on Newcastle United so it feels like the safest option.

  7. with a playmaker like Ireland and Ben Arfa back, we should hopefully create enough chances for our mediocre strikers to convert the occasional chance.

Saying that, our midfield is pretty strong + can get goals and we can always just play Collocini up front, the beast.

Great piece of business to be honest. A fricking ridiculous fee!  The transfer request has completely knocked me sideways though.

I am going to try and put things in perspective without leaning on some of the hearsay or negativity:

    – the club has a small fortune to spend on improving the squad
    – does selling one star player make the club a selling club?
    – Manchester United sold Ronaldo and Beckham. Are they a ‘selling club’?
    – until we are a top 6/7 club again we are going to face the big clubs backed by an enthusiastic Sky Sports (protecting their investment) unsettling our clubs
    – the sale of Bent, Torres and now Carroll highlight the scummy role of agents in our game
    – this also highlights the moral bankruptcy of footballers that none of us should be surprised at as it ain’t anything new
    – lastly (ish) where does this money come from? Liverpool are in terrible debt and do not look like improving revenues in the next year (ie Champions League)
    – where did Villa find 18 -24 million?
    – Chelsea despite losing 74 million last year after winning the league and playing in the Champions League have forked out 50m for one player and 22 million for another
    – UEFA need to step in now as these clubs are destroying the game in my opinion. I have stopped believing the hype. International football has went to the wall and the greed in the game is killing the passion.

To summarise, I am more disgusted with the state of football than I am with the sale of my favourite player.

      (Quote)

  10. You cant blame Carroll for wanting 50k more a week.

The club appeared not to want to lose him BUT it would have been tempting to sell at those prices – Carroll just opened the door for the move by his transfer request – it was then a racing cert and we were going to get as much as poss – no way was he worth anywhere near 40m.

Wonder if he miraculously recovers from his injury.

Providing we use some of the money wisely next window, we will be a stronger club. Time will tell.

But I seriously doubt many will forgive him for choosing money over loyalty – all I would say – if you were faced with the decision – what would you have done? Whatever way you fall – when its a reality – its one hell of a consideration.

      (Quote)

  11. Stardust when the monely like that is involved I think loyalty should come into it , its not like his reported 40k a week he was on with was leaving him in the poor house or hamper him in living a lifestyle that many of us fans could only dream of.

He has left us up **** creek for his own benefit.

If the money is re invested wisely i agree we can become stronger , tho i feel a push for europe or staying in top 10 is now gone.

  12. So Ireland has came in, I imagine that will be our business done for the night sadly. Thank god i’m in love with Georgie Thompson or this night of SSN could have somehow been even worse….

  14. Johnno – he is a young lad, he has advisors (who are wrongly geared to favour disloyal advice) – all I am saying is that it isnt easy.

Carroll isnt the sharpest tool either – he probably thinks he will be welcomed back as a hero having made it as a local lad

  15. Let’s hope we get the money to spend in the summer. I’d rather we take our chances with what we’ve got for now than waste any of the money on Heskey, Elmander et al. It is unbelievable though really, I did think he was himself going to turn his back on any deal. Hey ho, onwards and upwards. Just gotta keep Jose now.

      (Quote)

  16. Life will go on. Four games unbeaten, all without Carroll. Shame we couldn’t get Elmander, Him and Ireland would have really softened the blow as far as i’m concerned. If we don’t get a striker in, doubt we’ll go down but we can kiss goodbye to a top half finish I think. Your prediction was spot on the money as usual toonsy. 😛

  19. How much was Ashleys ‘loan’ to us when we went down, am I correct in thinking it was somewhere in the region of £30M- £40M.
I might be wrong but it’s interesting isn’t it.

Did anyone see A’rry on SSN. He looked dissapointed but said newcastle will be happy with that piece of business and making Carroll submit a transfer request was one of his old tricks to make it look like the club wanted to keep him. 😐

      (Quote)

  20. Money talks and the stain walks, I have been reading a few different conspiracy theories and I cant believe there is any chance in this world that Carroll was forced to leave. as I said earlier he has turned his back on his boyhood club and I hope he has a hard time living with that. But I dare say the extra money will make it a bit easier to live with, fuk em I say 👿
On the Ireland transfer I know he is not everyones cup of tea But I am looking forward to seeing him recapture the form he had before, I think the guy is a bit of a wierdo but I think he just needs to feel wanted and if he can get the Geordie faithfulls behind him I honestly believe he will be a cracking player 😉
Does anyone know if he has a bro called Taaj > http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/culturepicturegalleries/8198795/Come-Fly-With-Me-meet-the-characters.html?image=4 😆 😆

  21. hmm something stinks with the transfer request like doesn’t it, though ‘Arry is an absolute ****, he’s an experienced ****.

      (Quote)

  22. ILM-It makes you think a little doesn’t it. I dunno, what are the chances of someone from Carroll having a quiet word in Ashleys ear saying he’d like to leave, so Ashley decided to reject everything knowing that if push came to shove Carroll would officially request to leave?

Either way mate, it doesn’t change the fact Carroll has mugged off Newcastle on the whole. He’s been lying through his teeth for weeks regardless of how it went down in the end. Whether he was forced to put in a request or Ashley was rejecting for the good of the club, he’s walked out on us at the first time of asking.

      (Quote)

  23. Dave

Certainly. Crouch looks awful at the minute and I think Harry wanted him and all that, ‘maybe the chairman has bid but I don’t know anyhthing’……… 😈 yeah right harry whatever you old goat. You don’t expect us to buy any of that old **** do you, you aint in shepards bush.

They tried with £25M and got outbid by Abramovich blood money and £50M getting throw around in a panic. It reminds me of when we where at their level but got outbid for the top 4 players. I know one thing like after all this I’m glad a) we got rediculous money for him and b) he didn’t go to Spurs.

Oh course if Ashley blows a million of it in 2 hours in a game of craps it doesn’t make much sense like. 😡

      (Quote)

  24. Can’t help but think Nolan would love to join him at ‘pool aswell if he was good enough and would have encouraged Andy. 👿

  25. FSOTC-rumoured to be 35mil, with add on’s.

Just seen that little interview with Arry on SSN there. He certainly does sound like he’s trying to take a pop at us like. Doesn’t seem impressed that he hasn’t got Carroll and wants to try and stir the pot a little by implying that after Ashley has done him, he’s trying to do us aswell with the “Transfer request” story.
I will be interested to hear what Judas has to say in the coming days.

      (Quote)

  26. FSOTC- 35M + add ons (whatever that means). Not bad, only too late to spend it. So much for gunning for europe- now it is all about survival and prayBarton and Enrique don’t bolt in the summer

  27. To be honest I’m surprised at carrolls decision, am sure it’s not as cut and dried as it seems. Presume it went along the lines of Liverpool have offered me 80k a week so match it and Llambias said no chance – forcing carrolls hand which was probably bitten off instantly

Carrolls a thick **** whom has completely gone down in my estimation, all that **** about wanting to be a legend etc, he’s no better than Ashley or llambias hope the fvcker fails his medical

  28. Probably a Liverpool rep who picked him up from the helicopter Johno?

Those rotten bin dippers pointing at the 9 on the Torres shirt is sickening like.

  29. No doubt he’ll be banging on about how he wants to be a legend at Liverpool like toshack blah blah – loyalty …. Fvcking forget it
If he ends up scoring and celebrating against toon I’ll personally go on pitch and lamp him

  30. Wouldn’t it be great if he went to Liverpool just to sit down, spit across the table, shout “NEWCASTLE UNITED FOREVER!” and then walk out?

    Ah, pipe dreaming.

With that kind of scratch, I imagine we could pick up a nice strike tandem. If only there weren’t, what? two hours left in the transfer window.

Well, Shola, Leon, Peter and Nile, here’s your chance, boys! Earn the number nine.

  31. all of this was fine until I saw the pictures of him getting mobbed at l’pool 😥 It’s gonna be hard watching his England career unfold, that’s for sure. What a motherf*cker, how could he? Bad end to a bad day…

Right. That’s it out with, and that’s the last I moan of it.

Onwards and upwards. Two strikers and a RW in Summer please! Here are my early candidates

    Lavezzi, Caveni, Wolfswinkle ST
    Krasic, Bastos, Sanchez RW

Make it happen please mike 😉

  33. FSOTC-None of them are worthy of the number 9 sadly. We’re going to struggle like neebodies business from now until the end of the season. How many prem goals do our 3 strikers have between them? 10 or so?..

johno-Tickets are easily accessible to all games bar sunderland these days.

  34. Ross cant wait to see his press conference 😆
Funny enough knowing that he handed in the transfer request has made it so much easier for me to except, but my wee lad is gutted as he has Carroll No9 on his kit 👿 and thought he was the best thing since sliced bread.
No matter what anyone says IMO there is no way he could have been forced to put a request in unless thats what he wanted, as he would have known what it would look like to the fans and his fellow Geordies, so unless MA took his parents and Bairn hostage and told him he had to do it or he would never see them again, and I know MA is a grade 1 c@nt but I doubt he would be capable.

  35. Just a thought: Papiss Demba Cisse is the top scorer in the Bundesliga (15 goals in 20 games) at a mediocre team– Freiburg. We could maybe pry him away with a serious bid and still have a bundle to spend in the summer.

  36. fsotc, that is an absolute nightmare reality, the thought of coca shola wearing the number 9 jersey does not bear thinking about.

  38. BD-The smirk on his face as he arrives for his medical in Liverpool tells a story like.

He’s a judas and I’ll be letting him know when he returns to SJP. I wonder if it’s sunk in yet that he’ll struggle whenever he’s in and around his home town and that he’ll probably never play for Newcastle again.

  39. dont think we’ll get relegated this season, but next season with that nimrod in charge, you just dont know what he’s going to do next.

      (Quote)

  40. Aye to be honest I don’t know how to feel about Pardew. Did he know fine well Ashley would eventually have to let him go if the offers kept on coming? was he aware that Carroll might have been tempted if a big club came in for him?

Or was he too sucked in by Ashley assuring him he was going neewhere and Carroll saying he had no intentions of leaving? He’s been made to look a bit of a plank like the rest of us either way like.

      (Quote)

  41. We could get 3-4 youngsters plus one or two first teamers out of this. Unfortunately that will have to wait until summer. In the mean time we just need to hang on. we have had a good run of football here without Carroll so I’m going think happy thought.

Seriously thou- 5 players in over the summer plus a fit Ben Arfa and Gosling…I smile at the thought

  44. By the way…at the risk of stating the obviosul old ‘arry is a p—k. Upset he couldn’t get carroll and now he’s causing trouble. If the club was really shopping Carroll all window, why didn’t they sell him to Spurs?

  45. Wispers are afoot that it was all down to Chris Hughton’s departure! What a load of ****! I’m gutted! Had to explain to my 5 yo why is favorite number nine would no longer play in the black in white shirt! Couldn’t do it without swearing… Wife had to take over!

      (Quote)

  46. Ross I dont think he intends to be spending much time here now, and as I said he isn’t the sharpest so he has probably only seen the pound signs so far 😆
Trojan how do you work it out that MA has hung him (Pards) out to dry ? Do you think Carroll was forced out by MA 🙄
