Tell Celtic to poke their £1.5 million!

£1.5 million for Forster? Jog on!
So Celtic have apparently bid £1.5 million for the services of Fraser Forster as they bid to take the loanee to Parkhead on a permanent basis.

Have they? Haven’t they? Who knows. I certainly don’t, although I wouldn’t be surprised if Celtic were interested in our goalkeeper after he impressed for them last season by keeping 24 clean sheets in 44 appearances in league and cup matches for Neil Lennon’s side.

Personally I’d like to keep him, but I can also see him leaving. Much like Tim Krul, Forster is at the age where he will want to start making regular first-team appearances. With Tim Krul looking likely to be the one who takes over from Steve Harper it leaves Forster in a difficult position.

What is an acceptable offer though? Is £1.5 million really enough for a lad that has the rest of his career in front of him and is highly rated? I don’t think it’s enough, but I also don’t think it’s that far off.

I’d take no less than £3 million for Forster in all honesty. It’s not bank breaking but it’s a bit more respectable than a derisory offer that values him in the same bracket as James Perch. Unfortunately, Forster has no Premier League experience so I feel that our bargaining hand is weakened by that fact.

There is still pre-season to come and I have a feeling that it’s only then that we’ll know where we stand on the goalkeeping front. Forster may come back and prove a point and take the No1 spot, although I fell that is unlikely. Shame really, with me and him being Hexham lads and all…

It’s canny how we’ve managed to be so well stocked in our goalkeeping department. For years now it’s been a position which we haven’t really had to worry about and we’ve always been covered in one way or another. In fact we were lucky that Steve Harper has been happy playing second fiddle/has no ambition* and has been with us for so long.

* Delete as appropriate.

Unfortunately though I don’t think any of our ‘keepers will be willing to sit around for years while the other get their moments, and if that is the case then one of them will go. If it’s Forster, and if it’s to Celtic, then fair enough, but not for £1.5 million.

Come back with a serious offer Bhoys!

  1. Spencer….is that not implying you’re a paedo instead of gay though?……unless he meant both 😆

  2. I know other Celtic fans who would be happy to have him.

The guy is 6ft 7 tall. He is a walking giant, he isn’t gonna fly down to the ground at lightning speed, it isn’t in his genetics. He IS, however, gonna catch and punch crosses other keepers can’t do. It all spreads out. Anyway, I have seen him hit the floor to make an exceptional save last season, so he can do it.

Celtic fans only comment on that asset because Artur Boruc was a freak in the vein of Shay Given with his agility. Boruc, however, was a legitimate psychopath and often made howlers. No keeper is perfect.

The long term position is Newcastle may well sell him to Celtic or Norwich in a deal like I proposed. Joe Hart seems to have the England position signed up for at least 10 years now and even if his form goes – his media love fest will keep him in the spot.

If Newcastle are stuck with Forster unable to get caps, and with Tim Krul likely the future no. 1 keeper – are they ever going to get anything more for a bit part English keeper with no top flight experience in England?

I say sell Forster to Celtic now in terms similar to what I said and get what you can. You put some add ons for international and sell on and you maximise the financial and minimise the potential of a fed up player moaning and annoying other players.

  3. @Big Dave

Ha! Class ! My only tattoo is ****. Got it when I was 21 in Blackpool .
I was hammered and noticed a union jack tattoo on the wall with Rangers FC underneath .
I asked the tattooist if I could have the same but wanted Newcastle instead of Rangers.
Me and my mate got the same one and it was the following day after we took our bandages off, whilst in the back of an old transit van on the way back home with the lads that we compared our tatts. It was then, once sober, we realised the ******* hadn’t put United on the bottom!

We had to head straight for Ozzys on Byker bridge to add the United on.
So now it reads Newcastle Fc United!

I could have had another tattoo put over it but i think it’s part of my history! No shame!

Maybe the Celtic fans know more about Foster than you and have every right to complain.
    😕

  5. In a shorter version of my previous posts here, this is the simple fact – Unless Paul Lambert and Norwich are willing to offer more the £1.5m or £2m Celtic will – who is gonna pay more?

No one is going to pay any more than that for a keeper with no top flight experience. The two teams who will pay that, are the two teams he has played for but they won’t pay silly money for him.

The key is getting add ons that keep the initial price low while making the potential price higher.

  6. I think £1.5m is a decent price for a Keeper who is third choice at the Toon.

It’s down to our management whether money is important.

    Goodbye Fraser. 😆

  7. We should think ourselves lucky Celtic haven’t bid £1.5m for Krul or Harper cos this regime would snap their hands off.

    Naive by Celtic really 😆

  8. info for all zog fans he is at training ground now . has been seen getting out a vehicle 5 mins ago by my friend

  9. Maybe I am more open to this transfer since no matter what team he ends up at – he still plays for a team I support.

Also – on a totally unrelated piece of transfer talk, why have we not discussed Carlos Vela this summer? He is one of the traditional transfer rumours we are linked with yet this time, nothing.

He clearly doesn’t have much of a future at Arsenal and he is the small, speedy goal poacher we are after. He also played a huge part in helping West Brom last season.

    Shocked we aren’t sniffing about.

  14. Bobby,

He has been at Arsenal long enough that I imagine he speaks some French. He should be on our list now.

Cabaye was paid for with the sale of Nolan.

You dont really expect us to bid for someone unless we sell someone else do you? 😯

      (Quote)

  19. I do bobby, I think there wall be at least one player coming in tomorrow (for a fee), but I dont think anyone will be going out.

      (Quote)

  20. Woo hoo hoo hoo! Spencer you expect someone coming in tomorrow?

If youve stole my crystal ball you aren’t rubbing it correctly!

Where did you get that bout of optimism from?

  21. Nufc4eva – n zog not coming to the toon.

As much as it will be great lads he’s not going to come I’m afraid… Too much money

  22. Bobby do you rekon we have to sell players to create funds for all our buys this summer?

      (Quote)

  23. I just hope we sign Neil Taylor. He is a vital signing, as daft as it sounds.

If we sign him and manage to keep Enrique, then that frees up both Ferguson to be left wing cover and Tamas Kadar to be centre back cover, instead of forcing one of the two out of position.

He may be one of our most important signings in a long time if you look at the squad as a whole.

  24. Because its transfer friday 😉

Still my legs are abit tired so can I jump on your train anyway for a lift home?

my goodness grief! My Lycra top has just ripped cos I’m laughing that loud at your Enrique comment.!

Please tell me you are joking that you believe Enrique could stay ?
    😆

  26. The trouble is BSN9 is there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of interest in a left back with high wages and commanding a high transfer fee…

      (Quote)

  27. @Spencer

    Transfer Friday?

    ***.

Forget about what you hope and start to use things around you to form your judgements.

There are approximately 60+ days left of the transfer window and aporox 9 Fridays .

Are you going to say this every Friday?

Unless there are any crocked players, in dispute with their clubs or just plain ****, we won’t be signing anyone tomorrow . 🙄

      (Quote)

  28. Bobby- I would put a tenner on us signing at least one more player this window, yes, I do also think we will lose up to 5 aswell. Also I will say it every friday, unless we didnt sign a player the friday before 😉 😆

  29. Unless there are any crocked players, in dispute with their clubs or just plain ****, we won’t be signing anyone tomorrow

    😆

  30. @Liam

I will show my **** on Fenwicks window if the Liverpool deal is not done and dusted with Jose and it suits both clubs at this time to delay the transfer.

The Liverpool left back might find that he gets a call to Kennys office once they have a buyer.

  31. @Spencer

I’m pleased you are talking football even though it’s shallow, but it beats chatting Jason Vincente up. 😆

  32. Newkie, whats their left back called again? saw him play in the cup final, he was a quality player like.

So bobby, do you think the Carroll money had found its way to ashleys pocket and wont be spent?

      (Quote)

  33. @newkie
    You say;

Aye they can ****** off for 1.5 mil. Maybe 10mil plus that left back of theirs?

I take it you are talking about Foster and I take it you are joking?

      (Quote)

  34. Bobby- I want to talk football, not about the 2 girls sat in my bed with sexy lingerie on 😆

  35. I notice mackems had signed Westwood and Larsson.

Proud tradition of signing the players we turn down. 🙂

      (Quote)

  36. Spencer-Its Izagurie or something like that I think 😆

Bobby-Yeah no worries, he won’t be worth 10mil until he gets at least one england cap… 😆

      (Quote)

  37. DJG-I might have taken westwood tbh, maybe we could have shipped Harper off during the summer…I’d assumed we wouldn’t get him because he’d want to be battling for first team-but seems now he’s happy to sit behind Gordon and that belgian guy they have..

    Larrson is sh*t though 😆

      (Quote)

  38. bobby – you’ve been at the wheel of the bullshit bus for about 3 weeks straight now. you’re contravening EU law and in danger of getting toonsy’s blog shut down. Give it a rest will ya – you can’t even get our players names right FFS

      (Quote)

  39. Thats it Newkie, he reminds me of Jose abit, very strong and decent at going foward, wouldnt mind him and B&W put it that way.

      (Quote)

  40. Newkie

Aye, not bothered about Brown but would be a bit miffed if they got Gibson and O’Shea. Both good players IMO. How come all the Man U rejects we sign are **** ones and they are after some decent ones. 😕

      (Quote)

  41. Spencer-aye, I’ve seen him a couple of times for Celtic and he does look good, I guess its just whether playing for celtic makes him look good or not, and whether he looks better than he is blah blah. Personally I think he looks good and he’d be worth a punt-maybe sell Enrique for 8/9mil, get him for 5 mil or so, I don’t think we’d miss out on too much. Enrique was good to watch when we had no other real creativity in our team, but next year we should have plenty of lads that can run better than Jose.

DJG-How can you say that? **** was quality 😀 I’d be happy for them to take Brown as I’ve never really rated him..but I think O’shea would be a great buy for them-really can’t see him going though. Gibson and Brown fair enough, but O’shea has a lot of versatility and Fergie seems to like him..can’t really see him moving.

      (Quote)

  42. Newkie, imo leftback isnt the most important position, as long as the LM covers them, all the leftback has to do really is stop players cutting inside and stop crosses, I think Jonas helps Jose alot, and im not saying Jose is a bad player, but I think Jonas might make him look a little better than he actuall is.

And with the midfield we are going to have next season, I am not going to be to botherd about seeing a LB that gets my **** of my seat aslong as they do their defensive duties.

      (Quote)

  43. Funnly enough Newkie, Brown is the least likely apparently because he likes it too much in his Native North West and all his family there. Wahh Waah what a baby. How old is he now anyway about 30 or summit. God he’s done even better than Ameobi. re. a cushy ride at his local big club.

      (Quote)

  44. He’s nearly 32. 😕

I always thought of him like he was one of their younger players, like early 20’s. Deffo in the list of players who you think are young but arn’t. Like Wright-Philips ect.

      (Quote)

  45. 232 appearances and only 3 goals since 1996. Nee wonder he’s got plenty in the tank. Should be able to play till he’s 40.

      (Quote)

  46. Yeah, Brown’s been around for ages but I know what you mean, even till a couple of seasons I saw him as that young’un trying to break into the first team 😆

Probably still lives with his mum, he’ll have to ask her what she thinks on his transfer  . Still, can’t blame him for not wanting to go to Sunderland eh 😆
