It’s tough being a fan…..

Mike Ashley: Do you trust this man?
One thing that has always caught my attention when participating in discussion or simply reading the comments from others on this blog is the range of emotions on display.

We all support the same club but everyone has their own view on all the events that unfold before us on a daily basis. Supporting the club aside, the other thing that unites us is the fact that we fans have been battered pillar to post over the past decade. Of course I could go back further than that, but where do you draw the line?

From the revolving door that our managers travel in and out of, to the players we have gained and lost, these are all things that have a detrimental effect on ones psyche. Recently no one has had more of an effect on Newcastle’s fans emotions than Mike Ashley. I don’t want to go over old ground as we are all aware of what has transpired with our much maligned owner. What I do want to discuss, and to get back to
my earlier point, is the mark he has left on us all.

I’m no shrink but it is plain to see from the participants on this blog what the wide ranging effect have been. Some live with deep distrust not willing to believe that the club wants to do the right thing and move forward. I can understand why they protect their feelings like they do. How many times do you get screwed over before enough is enough?

Others try and stay positive believing that good times are around the corner (whilst hoping that they won’t be let down once again). However, the overriding emotion that does come out is the humor. Maybe it is a case of “if you don’t laugh, you will go mad” but through it all there is always someone to lighten the mood and put everything into perspective.

To me supporting Newcastle is like raising a small child. You can have moments of pure joy but within the blink of an eye you are pulling your hair out and wondering what the hell you have done to deserve this madness. I guess my point in all this is through it all we still hang in there, week after week, year after year.

Who would be a fan of Newcastle United with all the drama that surrounds it? I know I would! Thanks to Aussie magpie fan for his contribution to this article.

  1. Drama, drama and more drama. I wouldn’t have it any other way though, from bliss to devastation and all in the blink of an eye, love it or hate it there’s never a dull moment at Newcastle, and that’s what makes us special

  2. I have faith in the owner, but no faith in the chairman. ❗ ❗

Though,i sometimes question the owner, whether is he merely earning profits,as long as the club is in PL. Or has he have big plans for the club to go european competition and in future for league title?

  3. Good times are to come to us at some point, law of averages says so! I think Pardew has a good cup run in his sights this year. It’s the same as I think every year but I do believe we’ll have a good chance in both the Carling and the FA Cup, of course that’s if we sign another striker and a right winger, which I think we will so just gotta hope we don’t come up against the likes of Stevenage again 👿

  6. its hard to no how i feel bout Ashley he has made a lot of mistakes at Newcastle be he has tried to do a good turn here an there but they always managed to back fire on the guy…and he has do good for the club as well .. look at our finances for starters !

I put it down to him been new to football ownership but i think he is starting to get the hang of it.. he got in a tremendous Chief Scout in order to spend less on getting better players in an also more players for the money we used ti spend on 1 marque player.. and he is doing his research look at the contract loop holes he has sniffed out..

I for 1 am indifferent to Ashley at the moment today i like him …

  7. Evening all 🙂

I agree Aussie. I sometimes despair at being a fan of Newcastle, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. Anything else would be, well, boring, wouldn’t it? 😉

  8. we never realy no were we stand with the loony toon, we just have to smile and get on with it and hope we realy can push on up the table next season , in the back of my mind i think pardew has good intentions but is a puppet on a string and we all no the strings can be cut very easy  lol

  9. His high wages are worrying me something serious!
Although if he is still our player when the window ends it’ll at least show Pardew has some say because I think Ashley’d sell Colo just to get rid of his high wage, but I would LIKE to think Mike is smarter than that and realises his importance to the team

  11. There is no harm in making a profit Arsenal have been doing it for years and i woudlnt mind there position every year, even if they dont win much.

I just hope he sticks with Alan Pardew for a few years to get stability back into the club.

  12. I understand the financial outlay of the club had to be reduced but I believe they are doing it too quick and too much.

We had Freddy Shepherd at one end of the spectrum and Ashley is at the other. Somewhere in the middle would be better.

I also don’t believe he has the club at heart and sees it purely as an advertising vehicle for Sports Direct.

He will be off like a shot once someone offers him a decent price for the club.

  13. Remember when Ashley was one of the lads? Buying pints going to the Bigg Market, free pints at SJP. It was just the Keegan -Wise debacle where it all went pear shaped. Its still the same guy and he is learning about football and NUFC. Lets hope he gets it 100% right sooner rather than later

  16. Richie I think your right mate as I have heard anything from £80 – 90k a week so I think he would struggle to get anywhere near that.
On the fatman I always had hopes that he would realise that by spending money he would make money through us being successful, which I really did believe was his aim, but now im not so sure. Plus there is noway that he cant see that Lambsarse is a major problem to the Fans and I believe the players, but it seems that MA doesn’t see him as a problem or else he knows he is a doesn’t give a fuk .

  17. Yeah i think newcastle is the most supported club outside the obvious 4. We are all hoping for the days of the entertainers come back to the toon 😀

  18. I have accepted that the club will achieve very little under Ashley, this way I can move on and not expect too much. I still pay for my season ticket and I still go and support the team, but expecting anything from the club under this regime is almost impossible.

In the past, everytime I have thought we might have a chance of going places he puts his foot in it and makes a balls up.

I’m happy to be shocked one day, but I won’t hold my breathe.

This transfer window will say alot imo.

  19. As bad as Ashley has been since he arrived, if could be worse….

Just imagine instead of playing at St. James Park we could be playing at Venkeys Chicken Park 😯 😆

  20. yea see how the transfer window goes … apparently he is backing his manger in the market so see how we look after business is done an so far .. imo its looking good ! Sol, Nolan and Kuqi out Maverouex, Cabaye amd Demba ba in success 😛

If only FFS had appointed the right managers at the right time. The money was wasted by **** managers.

  23. The Hughton regime was fantastic. The football we were playing was all about hunger and determination, admittedly without some of the old flair and the spectacular of yesteryear. Pardew has steadied things – and eliminated those home reverses against lower table sides, but Hughton’s ability to take a young or adrift kind of player on to the next level – (enrique, carroll, willo, krul, simpson) will be sorely missed – and will only end up being Birmingham’s gain. We’re back to importing from outside on the cheap as a way of plugging the gaps in the squad – which is a shame. Meanwhile, no signs of the cobwebs being blown off that £35mil anytime soon.

The jury’s out until the club’s full recruitment strategy is laid to bare. Basic sums would suggest the club could justify an outlay of between £40 and £50 mil this summer. If we see £15mil spent on transfers I think we’d all be staggered.

  25. Bobby if only SBR took the job the 1st time round 🙁

Hitman I do think you will need to wait till the end of the transfer window before asking where the Carroll money, because although its unlikly but if he does spend it, you will be the one that looks like a FKIN MUG 😀

      (Quote)

  26. hitman … all i will say is wen we spend big we get flops, with the odd exception, i like to see the manager been cautious in the market, Ashley tightened up the purses strings because of signings like Owen, Luque , Xisco and Boumsong and it makes sense, we spend 8m on boumsong an we shudda got 2 decent players with that money instead of 1 donkey

      (Quote)

  27. when are yous people going to wake up aboot ashley..the fat fk struck gold with his shitty sports direct, sell it cheap stock it high,we dont stand a chance

      (Quote)

  28. We will be thanking MA if these new finance rules come into play because our team will be one of the only teams that can support itself and make a profit. We will still be able to buy player while others are still trying to balance their books.

Brum want guthrie , rout and best the are worth about 10-12m for the lot and as far as i no Johnson / Dann are valued the same .. get a swap going … its cheap an we get a great player
