Has Xisco gone to Deportivo for good this time?

Xisco: Going back to what he knows?
It would appear that Xisco has returned to Spain to his former club Deportivo la Coruna, with the only question mark being whether the deal is a permanent one or a temporary one.

Personally, any deal that gets rid of Xisco is good one in my opinion although obviously a permanent one would be better as it would mean that he won’t return.

According to the oracle that is Wikipedia (I know!) it is a permanent deal although there is a distinct lack of any other confirmation on that front with other sources stating that the deal is just a temporary one. Perhaps one of the losers that edit Wiki will run along now and change it?

Will he be back or won’t he? It seems strange that whilst the club are keen to offer out free transfers to the likes of Joey Barton and Alan Smith they would be willing to keep hold of Xisco who has had about 60 managers to work under during his time at St James’ Park but has managed to impress none.

Perhaps he has been offered the same way out as Smith and Barton although I personally find it hard to believe that Deportivo would be able to remunerate Xisco to anywhere near the same level that we have been for the past three years or so, especially when you consider that they are no longer a La Liga side having suffered relegation last season.

To me all the signs point towards it being yet another loan deal with us being almost certain of picking up most of his wage tab in the process. I’m not too fussed on that to be honest as at least we’ll be saving a little bit and keeping Xisco around is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. At least it frees up another place in the squad I guess although in fairness we could actually replace him with nobody and be no worse off.

Am I being too hard on Xisco? Probably. Do I care? Not really. I understand that it’s not his fault that he has been paid a fortune for doing absolutely nothing during his time at NUFC. Being honest I’d milk it for as long as I could aswell. The thing that does irk me is that he hasn’t even bothered to at least make an effort when he has been here. There has been no urgency to prove a point and to me that is not what being a professional is about.

So goodbye Xisco. Hopefully this time for good!

  1. Xisco will no doubt be excellent in the eyes of some now he has gone and will be used as an example of another player not replaced when people use that particular argument in future 😉

  2. Pardew said today that only one player will possibly leave this window which he intimated could be Barton. Then we hear that Lovenkrands had been offered to Rangers and he turned them down.

    What is going on?

  3. Please please please say he is gone…

And apologies if you thought I was being too hard on our new signings, I just think people are pinning their hopes on unproven players.

It annoys me greatly that we have made a PROFIT of over £35 million in the last two transfer markets and still haven’t sufficiently reinvested. Although as Llambias pointed out we do now have undersoil heating…

Well i know what I’m getting on my shirt 😉 Undersoil heating 9

  4. Surely Deportivo aren’t stupid enough to sign him when they can get us to pay most of his wage on a loan? Toonsy I don’t think you have to worry about too many saying he would have been excellent for us had he stayed. He is just another Luque laughing all the way to the bank. I think early on he was genuinely frustrated about his lack of chances to play but the last picture I saw of him he was laughing and kissing other fellas on some Spanish beach. He didn’t look too stressed to me.

  5. I may spam the sight with this post a few times:

Also people keep claiming that Ba will spend much of his time in the treatment room. The guy played 29 league games last year! That’s more than Andy Carroll and only 1 less than Nolan!

I am willing to have a bet with anyone that Ba or one of our strikers will top magnificent, ‘injury-free’ Andy’s whopping 13 goals from last season.

I too had just assumed that Ba was injury ridden, but it just simply isnt true.

  6. Like I said on the other thread, if it’s permanent or if he’s trying to cancel his contract then fair do’s to the lad,. He could have stayed collecting mega money for 2 more years off us and still been playing in Spain anyway…….couple of if’s there though and if the if’s aren’t true then he’s just a c@nt 😉 😆

  7. It says one year loan without buyout option as far as I can see. Maybe he has some football in him. Let the Spaniards find out. I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him though.

  8. Xisco, less playing time than Perch, Routledge, Ferguson, Young Ameobi, Lua Lua, Big Sol so he must just never have brought his “A” game to the Tyne. His bags must have got lost enroute.

  9. @SolanosTrumpet Jesus that has reassured me abit 🙂 I still think we need another striker though, Ba & Shola doesn’t do it for me.

  10. I’ll be watchin Spanish 2nd div this season so I might actually get to see him play a game…..some good ols fashioned Anglo Saxon words may get hurled in his general direction 😉 😆

What assistance does he need? Anyone know a good contract attorney? I’ll chip in a tenner

  12. Pardew has spoken about the new economic realities at Newcastle, saying we aren’t yet able to hold off sovereign states who put in bids for players yet. Hmmm. I don’t recall Liverpool being owned by a sovereign state? When did that happen? Of course we should spend within our means but we don’t even do that. So until we pay off every penny of the debt to Ashley we can’t have a net positive spending window? Do we have to make money from transers every window now? How will that work in the long term? Salaries have come down a huge amount and earnings are up dramatically now that we are back in the Prem. Does that count for anything at all? What amount of profit is acceptable to Ashley per year? I would like to know the answers to some of these questions.

  14. MDS…..I’d guess it’s more likely he wants his contract paid up or a good wedge of it.

To be honest I don’t know why they want the fecker, he wasn’t much cop last season by the looks of it.

  15. Geordie2…In a nutshell:They’re not, it didn’t,correct, yes, it probably won’t, apparently not and as much as the fecker can get. 😉

  16. I think Ba’s injury problems are over stated. Look at his record of appearances. It’s not bad at all is it? Realistically most strikers miss games throughout the season so the problem is not Ba’s injury “problems”, it’s not having another striker that is although hopefully that will be addressed.

  17. Demba Ba played 11 games last season and 2 sub appearances according to the West Ham web site. He also scored 7 goals.

      (Quote)

  18. Demba Ba continued:
Oh, and 4 of those goals came against West Brom and Wigan. He sounds like a big risk to me.

  19. Apart from the fact i would bust a gut and am 57 I will replace Xisco For £60.000pw i would look great for my effort and at my age I would still be twice as committed as he was.

  20. I see us playing Simpson at LB and STaylor on RB with Williamson partnering Colo. We don’t really have any other option than to play a child or a Dutchman who might have come in just 18 hours before the game. Pieters would need to understand some English before he started, right?

      (Quote)

  21. Agree RichieToon @23. That’s what I was afraid of. Toonsy I agree that Ba is no more injury prone than most strikers and I hope you’re right that the striker situation will be addressed. We have been hearing that for a long time now from Pardew. Is that panic I’m beginning to see in his eyes? The new “economic realities” speech makes me think no striker of quality is coming in. Stevenage beat us quite easily last season, surely they have a striker we can afford?

      (Quote)

  22. Bill – And before West Ham? The twenty appearances and 9 goals for Hoffenheim?

I make that 33 games in all comps last season, with 16 goals….

      (Quote)

  23. Ba does have a good scoring record.

Intrigued by who our new striker will be though – we certainly need one.

      (Quote)

  24. Ha, yeah. If we bring in pieters, krul would have to start just so that somebody can communicate with him

  26. haway then lads heres summit to rack your brains!!!!

who do u think wil be our top 5 goalscorers and how many goals do u think they will score ? here is my guess ………

    1. demba ba 16 goals
    2. best 12 goals
    3. shola 9 goals
    4. benny 8 goals
    5. obertan 7 goals

  27. Not sure what all the worry is for lads , think we are going to be absoulety fine next season and I feel we have improved from last season, Its all we can do. Slowly but surely building the club up again. Always feel people forget what a shambles this club was in a few seasons ago. We have a long way to go before we will be competing towards top end of table. Players come and go. Owners come and go. The club and fans remain. People should try remember that from time to time

  28. Andrew – you’d think wouldn’t you, but football is pretty universal. I played football with some ukranians once (they were physical beasts) and we managed to know what each other was up to despite neither of us knowing the lingo. A name and a point or grunt is generally good enough

      (Quote)

  29. Good point Toonsy. Ba’s strike record is quite good. I think he will be ok, not a replacement for Carroll but a decent striker for us. So now for that decent LB replacement and that affordable striker from Stevenage and we are set. Just joking about the striker (I hope). Why doesn’t Llambias have a look round the local zoos? Hopefully someone will spot him and lock him up. An interesting exhibit I would think.

  31. Richie, if that’s true, then something needs to be announced tomorrow! I agree with premandup who suggested a total overhaul of our defense just so that we can have more than a little confidence in them. But we all know that won’t happen unless a sovereign state sponsors us

  32. Andrew….Axel will confirm if he’s about I think but I’ve always found them to be excellent English speakers and can’t recall coming across one that couldn’t speak it(obviously they exist though).

  33. ANDREWT its like RICHIETOON says the language won’t be a problem the dutch start getting english lessons at primary school when they are about 8 years old and most pick up on it quick . The last i read on pieters is that Newcastle united have made psv aware of their interest and a formal bid will be made before the weekend . PSV have today bid for another defender from AZ Alkmaar , i still think this one will happen but not in time for the Arsenal game .

Don’t get me wrong, I hope the guy does well; it just irritates me when we sell our best players and take a punt on unproven players, and we seem to have a lot of those at the present time.

Selling Enrique is a prime example. Most people seem to have their heads buried in the sand. I can see exactly where Newcastle is going and I regret it.

  35. Yes RichieToon @46 that is good! Army69 @41 top goal scorers:
    1. Ba 12 goals
    2. Ben Arfa 8 goals
    3. Obertan 7 goals
    4. Best 6 goals
    5. Shola 5 goals (plays about 20 games due to injuries, 3 against the makems)

Ok……..I know I shouldnt say this and will prob get a slap on the wrist by toonsy ( Im sorry in advance ) but that is the stupidest comment I have ever read in my life. We should never sign another player who hasnt played in the premiership casue other leagues dont count. Derek put that phone down on Messi , he aint good enough….FFS people

      (Quote)

  38. Bill – But then goals in another team don’t count then surely? Different team, different dynamic, different players.

The fact is that Demba Ba has averaged 1in 2 throughout his career wherever he has been. The fact that he done that in a team who ended up relegated in an a brand new league is not a reason to hope he can at least replicate that???

      (Quote)

  39. Bill- do you think the club had a choice regarding Enrique? They have offered him a contract, granted we don’t know the terms, that he has refused to sign. He has made no secret about wanting to go. Should he be kept to sulk for the year until he leaves on a free?

      (Quote)

  40. Army69 you have 52 goals coming from your top 5 scorers. That probably means the team as it stands would score more than 60. Do you really believe that? Just interested. I can’t see the squad as it stands having more than 60 goals in them but would love it if you are right. I would think we will be in the low 50s for goals unless a really top striker comes in.

  41. @53. I’m sick of that “unproven” stuff too. There are never nay guarentees, but good footabll is played in other countries as well. The gap isn’t what it used to be…

  42. @48.. You’re not kidding. I spent a little time living over there and would try to use the handful of Dutch words that I knew and every time they’d cut me off and ask “do you speak english?” 😉 Used to frustrate the hell out of me cause I couldn’t practice and therefore never learned to speak it.

  43. Johno Toon – I think that you misunderstand old chap. Everyone brings in hopeful talent but you don’t rely on it. You use established players and bring in the hopefuls at the right time. Check to see what Fergie does at ManU.

I think you have been brainwashed by Mike Ashley.

  44. I thought the debate was about Ba being fit enough for games with his “injury record”., if so does it matter which country his appearences came in?

I think as it stands, the team has more goals in it than it did in the second half of last season.
Out of the players that have left only Nolan has scored this year(4), does anyone really think, Ba, Benny,Cabaye, Marveaux, Gosling won’t make up that 4 goal deficit in half a season?……….obviously thats on paper, if only football were that simple 😆

  45. And people wonder why he was frustrated!!!

Milner sold on agreement that the 4 players he recommened by bought included shweinsteigger and wise brings in xisco and a name I forget, gonzaga or someone.

Regarding Enrique, Nolan, Barton, Carroll; funny how they all say the same thing, and who is they are in dispute with – oh yes, that well known liar Mike Ashley hmmmmm. Who do you believe?

    The naivety beggars belief.

  50. I havent been brainwashed by anyone. We have lost 2 senior players this window ( SO FAR ). We have added to the squad, We have some real pedigree in Cabaye. We have added pace in Marveuax and Obertan. We have added Ba who has a scoring record of roughly 1 in 2 for his career and we added another player to a our long line of promising youths. Whats the problem? Yes we might lose Barton. But at the same time we prob will add to the players we have brought in. Good times ahead.
