Some good news for a change!

Marveaux back in action.
With good news in pretty short supply I thought I’d try and give everyone something positive to think about.

Now it’s nothing major and it’s certainly not about any new signings, nor the departure of players like Alan Smith or Ryan Taylor so don’t get too moist. However there is a bit of good news on the injury front with regard to Shane Ferguson and Sylvain Marveaux.

Ferguson played in a behind closed doors reserve match as he step up his comeback from the ankle injury he suffered in pre-season. He came through unscathed and has been in full traning for just over a week now so I expect that we’ll see him in and around the first team squad sometime soon.

The cynical side of me is wondering if this is why NUFC are dicking about with the Erik Pieters deal???

Another boost is the fact that Sylvain Marveaux played in that game, and did very well by all accounts by scoring one goal and setting up another two. The French summer signing has been struggling for match fitness after spending so long on the sidelines last season, which was compounded when he took a knock during the match against Kansas City meaning that he has been left out ever since as he searches for a level of fitness that will aloow him to feature in the first team.

Will it be enough for him to be included in the squad for the match against the unwashed at the weekend? Maybe. Maybe not. I mean midfield is one position where we are the fine and we have Gabriel Obertan who will be looking for a start after impressing in his debut at the weekend.

So there you go – good news. It’s probably not the good news you all wanted but thank heavens for small mercies eh?

Now, where is that kick in the bollocks that usually accompanies good news?

  1. APP, that is a very good point. I would hope with a little stability and basic backup from the owner, pardew could do very well for us, especially with carver at his side and Carr finding the best & brightest steals in the market.

It would be good if we could just be informed of this rather than finding out through experience though

  2. B&B….don’t forget that it was Pardew who said that Carrol was going nowhere, and he wanted to make the signings of Barton, Enrique and Nolan his top priority.

Bartons still here but the decision to put him on the transfer was a non footballing matter i.e. his behaviour was sufficiently bad for the board to get involved.

Nolan & Carroll went for financial reasons, a non footballing matter. Enrique wouldn’t renew his contract for footballing reasons (maybe) but was sold to cash in.

I can understand pardew saying he wants to retain these players for footballing reasons, I would too, but there are things beyond Pardew’s control. Llambias is indirectly influencing who we get but I do not believe he’s choosing the player cos of his ability.

  3. CT…whilst I’m not convinced unity will ultimately result in ashley leaving I do believe it be of benefit all round

  4. Witters, each of the players you mention were top priority for re-signing .. BUT ON OUR (NUFC) TERMS … not on the players terms.

  5. I think even If we manage to bring in a Left back before Saturday (Which i can’t see happening now) It would be a massive gamble chucking him into a derby match with no time to get to know his team mates.

I was at the game against Arsenal and I’m one of the few that thought Raylor had a decent game against them. Ok he wasn’t the best but ive seen alot worse players in that position; Babayaro and Perch to name two.

For me (if he is fit) its got to be young Ferguson at left back against the scum but if not I dont think it would be the worst news if Raylor was playing there again………..After all it could be Perch 😯 !!

    Team vs the scum:

    —————————Krul——————————

    Simpson—-S Taylor—-Colloccini—-Ferguson

    ————————–Tiote——————————
    ——————-Barton—-Cabaye——————–

    —Obertan———————-Marveaux/Jonas—-

    —————————-Ba——————————-

Subs – Harper (GK), Williamson (DF), Gosling (RB,CM,AM), Jonas/Marveaux (RM,LM), Vukic (CM,AM,FW) Shola Ameobi (FW), Best (ST)

  6. The finances means that Pardew is hamstrung. They’re so tight that any player that Pardew wants is almost impossible to get. That leaves the players who are affordable. Llambias’ kids mainly. The players with re-sale after a couple of years. Why do you think every transfer for anyone else is such an on-off saga, ending in off? Why do you think the kids come in under the radar with no problem?
Pardew was even sidelined over Barton. If he’d had his way, he would have sorted it out man to man, and was actually brave to say as much because it was a criticism of the way Llambias had dealt with it.
On HBA’s agent/friend, its not unusual to bump into people connected to the players when you go to the match.

  7. Raylor did well, considering the situation.

It’s a good question though–would you put a natural LB straight into that game on his first outing without even training with the team? I don’t know what I’d do if, say, he signed NOW. Realistically, he’d have Friday to train with the team. Can he really just walk in to the side? I’ve never seen him play, so I have no idea…

    Thoughts?

  8. Witters, I know it won`t happen that we all play the clever game, too many angst supporters to achieve that, but it was worth a debate.
Till then we will always be divided in our opinion.
My main point was, Support the team whatever you think of the board, that`s the only thing we can influence 😆

  9. Witters – you can look at it whichever way you like. Pardew is not asking for Messi or Aguerro. He might have been asking for Gervinho, and Erdinc and the like. we do, however, know that his top priority was to keep Barton, Nolan, Enrique and Carroll. Llambias wouldn’t make the effort just to keep the players we already have. Blame finances, but the result is the same. Llambias is getting in the players that he wants. Young men and kids with re-sale.

  10. ” support the bloody team, that`s your job.”

    No its not.
As well as being fans we are consumers. If, after paying our hard earned cash, we are dissatisfied with the product we are being provided with then it is our right to discuss or declare this however we see fit.
You don’t like hearing it – well that’s tough.
Just as you have your right to declare your undying love for all things Ashley however misguided that may be.
It is also entirely our choice to act how ever we see fit to remedy the situation.
If some want to protest that is their right, as much as it is within the rights of others who just want to ‘play the fiddle while Rome burns’ to do nothing at all.

A boycott would definitely work if it was on a large scale and adhered to.
No business can afford to alienate paying customers on a large scale, its one of the few weapons consumers have which can actually hurt large businesses.
Ashleys plan for making money depends on him keeping the club in th Premier League, a boycott of sufficient scale would threaten to seriously damage his plans and potentially lose him a lot of money.
That’s said I don’t think a boycott of sufficient scale will ever happen anyway.

Which leaves it as a matter of conscience for the individual.
For me (and many others I have spoken to) if Ashley fails to bring in a left back and striker of a reasonably high quality in this transfer window as promised, then that will be the last penny I will spend on the club until he drastically changes his ways or until he leaves.
I wouldn’t take such a decision lightly but at the same time it is not my ‘job’ to support Ashley’s incompetence financially. It is, in fact, Ashley’s job to provide us with something worth paying for. Giving him money, hand over fist, to continue to mismanage the club is beginning to feel a bit like actually aiding and abetting him.

    You say;

as long as you understand logic, Troy. I just don’t see the point in throwing degrading names at the manager who is honestly doing his best and doing alright so far.

But you’re the constant **** starter, so who am I to suggest you have boundaries?

    I reply;

Another abusive post directed at me. It doesn’t half make you look childish. 😉
You must learn not to take everything personally when someone disagrees with you. 🙄

I think I’ll start supporting them, they probably spend more money than Newcastle as well. 😉

  14. Good call Pootle. Not for me though. Its about the club and the team not about the owner for me. At least with Ashley the finances seem to be on a better footing. Going the way of Leeds used to be a big worry.

  15. I know the result is the same but I got the impression you were suggesting Llambias selected the player(s). He doesn’t…Carr & Pardew do. If they fit the criteria great if not no deal.

And I couldn’t call Marveax, Cabaye & Ba kids…re-sale value maybe but nothing wrong with that.

      (Quote)

  16. Pootle, if we are consumers, then you should understand that we are involved in a business, as such, MA makes business decisions.

    ‘Clever game’

I think it used to be called appeasement before some people decided to self-reverentially believe it was part of a ‘clever’ master plan.

I think you’ll find that appeasement of a dictatorial regime can actually lead to that regime taking more and giving less. Quite the opposite of what you ‘cleverly’ assume it will achieve anyway.

  20. Pootle a boycott or protests would work but only if enough people backed it and I cant see that happening as too many fans are prepared to go along with whatever the board decide to do, even if their not happy with it apathy has set in 😉

Batty its like deadliest catch on here at times there is always someone nibbling away, especially this morning at Troy because they knew he was caught up in an old discarded net until Toonsy set him free 😆

I did say at the time when MA was getting the FCB song to him he was probably thinking to himself I’ll sort these c@nts out and teach them a lesson. But again I stress the point if enough fans wanted to get him out it would work IMHO 😉

You’ve done it again. Can you remember **** Emery when he had the father and son character. The old catch phrase ” dad I think I’ve done it again” when he gaffed.

You may think I’m putting my hands up but this was brought up the other day and you are so slow on the pick up.

Backed up by other bloggers, bobby actually stated within minutes, and on the same thread that he had forgot the transfer window closed a month after the season started and readjusted his prediction and stated it would be before the start of the season because Liverpool, yes Liverpool would want him to settle in at the start.

Now go to the nearest mirror and repeat the following words, ” I’VE MADE A RIGHT *** OF MYSELF AGAIN AND IM GOING TO BED”.

    Woo hoo hoo hoo 😳 😳 😳 😆 😛
