Llambias responds with legal action against Barton’s podcast rant

Llambias goes on a rant of his own
Derek Llambias has taken time out of his hectic schedule of generally being sleazy to unleash another one of his telegraphs of doom. The shocking thing is that this time I actually agree with him.

This one is about Joey Barton’s rant last night on a QPR podcast, which came to light overnight and which you can read or listen to here.

In short Barton made a series of disparaging remarks against the Mike Ashley, Derek Llambias and, in a roundabout way, the normal working person who happens to work for Sports Direct as a job, labelling them “subordinates” which was odd considering they’ve nothing to do with Barton’s very public feud with Ashley and Llambias.

At first the club declined to comment on Barton’s remarks, which is probably a good thing given their habit of ballsing things up like this. However that has changed now and Derek Llambias has finally responded. Below, in full, is what Llambias has said, transcribed from Sky Sports News courtesy of the rewind button on my Sky + remote.

“In a week when one of Newcastle United’s most beloved footballers passed away it is disappointing that once again Joey Barton makes the headlines.”

“It is also unfortunate that Joey chose to draw such a disparaging comparison between himself and the employees of Sports Direct who through hard work and dedication are the recipients of one of the most generous bonus schemes in UK retailing.”

“It may not be a lot of money to Joey, but over 2,000 Sports Direct employees earning £20,000 will receive shares worth over 44,00 over the next two years.”

“However in this week, of all weeks, we really do not wish to engage in a public war of wards with Joey Barton. Our legal advisers are dealing with the matter now and we would encourage Joey to concentrate on his football at Queens Park Rangers.”

“Our thoughts and attentions this week remain firmly with the family and friends of Gary Speed.”

Now I’m not keen on Derek Llambias. I personally think a lot of the issues and ill feeling around the club stem from him, but that’s just my opinion. However, I have to say that this is a well reasoned and well thought out response from the club. Fair play to them on that score.

I can only assume it was written for Del by someone!

Naturally there will be people saying that Derek is using Gary Speed’s passing as a weapon against Barton, but I don’t see it that way. He is just responding to criticism and is allowed to do that isn’t he? I mean a lot of our fans have that commented on the earlier article (linked above, 2nd paragraph) said much the same thing about Barton attention seeking so perhaps Llambias isn’t far wide of the mark?

For once, I actually agree with Derek Llambias! I need to lay down…

  1. Why bother making any statement at all. I already automatically ignore anything Barton says because it is such self obsessed drivel.

  2. At last!!!

The club have said something that is absolutely on the money.

Barton is a self opiniated half wit who isn’t happy unless he’s in the spot light.

He’s probably gutted about Gary Speed passing away as it’s taken all the focus away from him.

  3. Wouldn’t it be good if Barton was successfully sued and the money goes into the transfer pot to supplement the 35 mil from the AC move.

      (Quote)

  4. I dont think it dignified a response to be honest and its just making it worse, it will take more than a leaching onto a tragedy for Llambias to stand side by side with the fans and in any case, why is he commenting on Sports Direct employees when he is Chairman of a completely different company?

      (Quote)

  5. Wow. I can only assume that the club has a new PR bod in place. Spot on wording there.

Toonsy – not just you, fella. My gob is of the smacked variety also. 😯

  6. Clearly Llambias is using Speed’s death to attack Joey Barton.

He starts with it and finishes with it.

If Llambias wants to reply to Joey’s comments why does he need to reference Speed’s death? There is no connection.

Llambias sinks even lower … how horrible can he get? … I think this is about as horrible as it comes.

  7. Joey is the classic ex. He just can’t stop thinking about us!

End of the day, if football manager is anything to go by (which it blatantly is haha), Barton was around 75k a week, he was offered a contract, understandably at a lower wage, but it wasn’t enough for him.
He could have taken a lower wage and stayed with the fans he claimed to love, or move to a club daft enough to bow to his obscene demands.

He should be thanked for his one good season with us but other than that he doesn’t deserve an ounce of any Newcastle fan’s respect. He’s as big a money grabber as MA anyway, people who live in glass houses and all that.
Time for him to let go and move on, in time he’ll forget about us, we’ve already forgotten about him.
There’s only a few people’s opinions on their experience of the regime that are worth anything to me, Joey Barton’s agenda driven, biased drivel definitely isn’t one of them.

  8. I knew someone would say that Speed’s death was being used…

Of course Barton was the considerate soul when he was mouthing off wasn’t he? Taking attention away from Speed when it should be a chance for reflection. I mean lets not forget that Barton branded Speed “selfish” on Twitter for committing suicide

    What a man 🙄

  9. Nice one for taking the time to put this up Toonsy.

First of all, I have no real opinion on Llambias in terms of what he says or does simply because I really don’t know fully exactly what he’s really about to be honest so an opinion on him would be based on not a lot .

In response to his reaction to Joey I am the man, all go, no stop, I can shout louder than you, Barton, I would say Llambias is well withing his rights to hit back and his response is on the button.

I also believe he is being genuine with how he mentions Gary Speed and Barton just being a headline **** really.

What Llambias has said is short and to the point and shows Barton up to be what the majority know he is….A mouthpiece.

      (Quote)

  10. @Geoff777, maybe because Speed is a premier league great and a Newcastle legend?
Maybe because it wasn’t just death, but suicide, something that has really shook the footballing world?
He is right, it isn’t the time to be bickering over bonuses and how you didn’t recieve all your wages whilst in prison.
Even if Barton was paid 0.7% of his actual wages while in prison he would still be earning over the average income.

      (Quote)

  11. Just saying there was no need for Llambias’ first and last paragraph.

Perhaps we should all stop posting and bickering on here out of respect?

      (Quote)

  12. Geoff – Nah, don’t be silly 🙂

I do see where you;re coming from, and I do think that Llambias is a fine one to chat about disparaging comments, but I really don;t think he was using Gary Speed as a means of one upmanship. He was just making the point that now is not the time for people to be having a pop at the club about wages and other petty stuff which really doesn;t matter right now.

      (Quote)

  13. @Toonsy

I think that’s exactly what Llambias was doing.

Trying to make Barton look bad for commenting on the club because Speed has died.

There was no need for Llambias to make a connection otherwise.

      (Quote)

  14. Agreed, he has hijacked Speed’s death in a tittle tattle exchange; it’s a fairly low blow. Sad as it is, the world of football moves on – and people should resume their usual business – which in Barton’s case is mouthing off. Real cheap shot to score points by Llambias.

I loved Speed the player, and I’m gutted for his family and close friends, but I would prefer one dignified tribute to mark Speed’s passing, rather than the outpouring of grief beyond his family and friends rolling on day after day in the media. Lots of good people have lost their lives in the past week, but because they didn’t play football they pass without a murmur. It’s getting like Diana- mania.. I honestly don’t think Speed would have been comfortable with it.

  15. used to love joey but hes acting like a right nob end !! its sums it all up when hes gna name his son haribo!! i just think it is shocking he can rant on after the terrible week with speed! grow up barton , get on with your own life and play the good football you played at newcastle cos to be fairly honest hes been bluddy **** for qpr!!!

  16. is spurs on 2nyt?? i was in debate whether to watch spurs or man utd 2nyt and it was a easy decision , spurs are playing the best football in the prem imo at the mo and man utd are just a scruffy moany team!!! therefor i shall watch spurs 😆

      (Quote)

  17. I think Llambias is just saying that Joey Barton didn’t need to spout off about the club when the football world is mourning over Gary Speed when the club are putting together a tribute to Gary.
I think he’s just saying how disrespectful it is to come out with it in the midst of tragic news like this.
Personally I think Llambias is bang on and people need to put their personal hatred of the man aside.

If Alan Shearer had came out with something similar, I bet no one would be disagreeing.

Barton needed to be told right now so he thinks twice about going into a rant and adding to the turmoil and basically that’s what Llambias is telling him.

      (Quote)

  18. This is the same fuking muppet that had a rant about some of Newcastle United’s most beloved footballers 😕
IMO he IS using Speedo’s death to curry favour with the Fans, tis funny he never comes out any other time to rebuke comments.
And WTF has SD employees got to do with him anyway.
    The man is a grade a c@nt

  20. Wolfie would he not have been better off then waiting until after the football world mourn the loss of Gary Speed and after the club pay tribute to Speedo ??
Rather than carrying it on ATM ?

  21. **** shame for joey that he just cant let us go can he? Like nobby said, he is the classic ex who just needs that conection, just cant let it die out and needs to have some sort of connection, even if its a negative one. i have always read that Joey is very well read and has a decent brain in his head but the actions he does now clash with that. All he has done is turn the fans on him now as we are all so over him, nolan, jose, CH, and anyone else i guess. Its the past and its all pointless now. I wonder wtf joeys club make of all this ****? Every time he gobs off makes it look like he cant be arsed with QPR other than for the coin. i liked his grit in the midfield and his determination but that has now just about gone due to this load of **** and besides, he is a shadow of the player and man that cabaye is.

  22. Hold on, you serious Toonsy?? Barton tweeted that Speed was selfish for committing suicide? WTF!

I mean, a lot of people feel that way about someone taking their own life, but what the hell is Barton thinking putting that into the public domain? Can’t believe that hasn’t been picked up on.

I’ve been slowly falling out of love with Joey – his cyber war with the TOWIE cast was funny, though whilst I enjoyed seeing the **** ripped out of those tw@ts, everytime I read one of his tweets I couldn’t help but think ‘thank God he’s not a Toon player anymore.’

  23. is that rigth batty….****, i wanted him to fuk it up for just a few more games, perhaps until january. mind you, i wont laugh as i heard that they had o neil lined up yesterday.
i also saw that when liverscum played city on sunday that jose didnt bother to wear a black band and the others did. wonder why?

      (Quote)

  24. Wolfie – because it’s disingenuous. Llambias doesn’t give two hoots about Speed, he’s just using emotive language to set Barton up as the bad guy – awful opportunism. And why should people not express opinions on totally separate matters because Speed has (sadly) passed on?

      (Quote)

  25. Re Bruce sacking, some fans knew about it last night, change the manager as much as they like but they still have an ageing squad on long contracts, they look in similar shape to us when we got relegated, fingers crossed

      (Quote)

  26. There should be no doubt imo that Llambsarse has used the death of Speedo as a put down against JB’s comments. I’m certain the cretins would stoop a lot lower too if they could.
Why not just do what they always do in the media. NO COMMENT.
A simple press release from the club would have been sufficient, but NO owlheed has to get his ugly mug on the tv and make it personal.
Agree with Big Dave, wtf has sports direct employee bonuses got to do with DL or NUFC. NOWT.
Would just likr to add tho, Barton is a propper ****** too. He managed to get 3 pages in the Sun today. The fucking press lap it all up too. 👿
Has he finished yet? Probably not. Bitter and twisted arsehole. Glad he has gone.

      (Quote)

  27. witters… it is a bummer, bruce was pants and i wanted him to stay longer so that he managed to get them into the bottom three and proper wankered before they wised up to his crapness. now he has gone they might get a real manager in. anyway, thanks brucey, you will be missed and i thought you were great for sunderland for what its worth.

      (Quote)

  28. BOATER, I would imagine Llambias is playing a part in this tribute to Gary Speed and is basically showing Barton up for what he is…a loud mouth and telling him this is not the time.

If he didn’t respond Barton would probably have had another dig anyway out of frustration and maybe tried a bit harder to get a reaction.

All Llambias has done really is give a simple and straight to the point answer as far as I’m concerned.

      (Quote)

  29. Bruce gone. Shame. Still, it’ll be funny reading what superstar names the fans are after to propel them to that next level.

Tough ask considering Short is making “operate within their means” with a “sell to buy” policy. Shame they only have dross to sell 😆

  30. Listened to the podcast and Barton strikes me as a bit of a halfwit trying to use clever words.

…..and the clever word for this week is “Facet”.

A bit of a shame that LLambias is taking such a hammering on this one.

He may have the charm and warmth of Robbie Savage but he hasn’t done a lot wrong on this occasion.

lambsarse could have just said.. ‘ in relation to Mr Bartons recent comments in the media, our lawyers have now been instructed. They will be in touch with Mr Barton accordingly”. Or some **** like that.

  33. What a 5hitty thing to discuss in every possible way.

I never bother even commenting on this blog now because unless your in the Toonsy “clique” nobody ever bothers even replying to your comments anyway.

Obviously Barton shouldn’t have said what he said, especially when he said it.

EVEN MORE obviously Lambiarse IS using the devastating loss of Gary Speed situation to ‘demonise’ Barton even more.

WTF are you exactly agreeing with Lambiarse about Toonsy? Don’t be so fuc*ing gullible to his bollocks!!!

The man’s nothing but a snake and you’re a bigger fool than I thought to believe his tripe.

I’m sorry, but he has no idea what Speed was going through. neither does anyone, so how on earth can he pass judgement on that?

The guy is a liability and I sincerely hope he gets brought to book or caught out sooner rather than later.

Actions have consequences, and Barton should know that more than most!

  41. I don’t think this will make much sense but here goes.

Derek can’t be so subtle as to not know that Joey once didn’t play not just with us I mean just a club that we all knew.
Joey is and by far was not knowingly either with or against whether it was another team or twitter that made his facebook scene with twitter speak.

Derek responds by not asking anything but saying things that we are not or never will be a part of anything that we don’t understand with Joey not going in either direction or stalling on bonus apparticultures.

Calling all that in and not looking deeply under guard I would say that the time maybe not in future but before now will be easily sorted as in did it ever happen and would it be a god send if not or will.

I did tell you all it wouldn’t make sense so you were warned. 😆

  43. Got to admit. I’m with Geoff, Dave, Boater and BB on this one.

Llambias is a heartless cnt. I’m pretty certain he’s using this as a weapon to bash Barton with. And its a pretty big one too.

Having said that, Barton is fast running out of his supporters. I’ve been sticking up for him since time began, but I do think it’s about time he engaged his brain before opening his fucking gob. What you say to your mates in the pub is one thing, but this tweeting is getting beyond the joke.

His crass comment about suicide just about drained the last drop of support out of me. If you don’t understand it, keep yer fkn nose out. So fkn insensitive. Had enough of Barton now.

…anyway, on a lighter note – I see the cabbage patch kid moves on to pastures new! hahahaha

    (actually that’s bad news also)

    🙁

  44. Geordie Dan @ 44 – Evening fella. I did reply last time you came on and said much the same thing. I never got a reply back but i did explain that sometimes i have to work and can’t be about all the time. Excuse my ignorance, it really isn’t intended and i apologise for the slight delay in replying as I just had to nip out. Only for some bread, nowt major so don’t worry. Its all ok 🙂

I feel honoured that, on a site with over 1000 registered users and more non registered users that its only me you look to engage with. Truly humbled. Perhaps you’re looking to tap into my Oracle type knowledge of NUFC you believe I have?

On a serious note, and like I did say last time. I don’t go out of my way to ignore you, but if you listen to my perspective you may understand why it appears that way.

When we used to chat regularly I was working nights which allowed me to be around all day pretty much so I could get involved more with the banter and debate.

Now I work days, like tomorrow I’m working from 9:20am until about 11pm in a job where I don’t sit at a computer anymore. There maybe articles published throughout the day, but its only because I set them up in advance on a scedule when I work. They are published automatically.

The only thing I have to keep in touch us my mobile, and I do pop on when I can but I have to moderate my usage or else my battery will die within a few hours and I’ll be left with a dead phone.

So there ww go. Hopefully you can see its not done on purpose now and we can start again now you have my side of the story of me not being chained to a pc all day everyday 🙂

On topic, you’re right, it’s a shitty thing to discuss and neither should really have mentioned it, but Barton has been going too far recently and needs brought to book in my opinion. Actions have consequences.

It would have been easy fro Barton to say nowt (hmm, actually perhaps not) but he didn’t and opened up, to which Llambias replied which is his right I guess.

      (Quote)

  45. “You guys don’t understand how f****** horrible we can be.” – Llambias

you know what it is, and long may it continue Dereck! The way the club is being run now not only goes to highlight what a fcking joke of a club we had become, but more so, just how much the people at the top had got away with letting it become that way.

Were moving in the right direction, sometimes it just takes an arsehole who doesn’t care to get you there. You want to see how horrible the PTI staff are in the army………they get you fit though. Means to an end and all that.
