Welcome one and all to the fantabulous, majestic ‘Game on’ article which will take you through every twist and turn of the match against Swansea today.
Of course today gives us another chance to pay our respects to Gary Speed as the memorial planned originally for the Chelsea game will go ahead with Gary Speed’s wife, Louise, in attendance at St James’ Park. Welsh hymn ‘Bread of Heaven’ will be sung and black and white cards depicting the number 11 will be held aloft by fans in the East Stand. It’s also fitting that the visitors today are from Speed’s homeland of Wales and I’m sure both sets of fans will combine to make it a fitting tribute to the man.
Moving on to the match itself… Team news will be supplied at the bottom of this article as and when it becomes available. However in the meantime why not take a look at Shamrock’s most excellent match preview here or for a look at a compendium of stats with regard to Swansea courtesy of nufc_stats then why not look here.
That just about sums it up from me and it really is ‘Game on’ time. Newcastle will be looking to pick up their first win in four whilst Swansea will be looking for their first away win of the season (I hate stats like that!) and with both sides capable of producing good football we could be in for a pre-Christmas cracker at St James’ Park.
Howay the lads!
Newcastle: Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, James Perch, Fabricio Coloccini (c), Davide Santon; Gabriel Obertan, Yohan Cabaye, Cheik Tiote, Jonas Gutierrez; Leon Best, Demba Ba.
Subs: Steve Harper, Mike Williamson, Mehdi Abeid, Haris Vuckic, Hatem Ben Arfa, Sammy Ameobi, Shola Ameobi
Swansea: Vorm, Richards, Williams, Caulker, Taylor, Routledge, Gower, Britton, Sinclair, Allen, Graham
Subs: Tremmel, Monk, Dyer, Augustien, Lita, Dobbie, Moore
the toon to score in the first 5 mins of second half 😆 😆 😆
hitman(Quote)
Swansea have a great defensive record at home… they’ve given up 16 goals on the road… for what it’s worth.
What was the change they just made?
Fans Should Own The Club(Quote)
@FSOTC 77 kemy agustien for mark gower i think.
Toon TRW(Quote)
Sorry–make that 18 goals they’ve given up on the road.
Fans Should Own The Club(Quote)
Thanks. Know anything about those two?
Fans Should Own The Club(Quote)
Augustien for Gower, fsotc
AndrewT(Quote)
i think gower is about 30+ years old. Agustien is younger and he is also a Dutch.
Toon TRW(Quote)

M(Quote)
decent performance, awful result
M(Quote)
I think thats it 😕
Big Dave(Quote)
Swansea have played the possession game well…
too bad for the lads.
NorCal Toonfan(Quote)
**** sakes
Newkie(Quote)
we defo need another striker to help out with Ba and a winger thats more effective than Obertan.
We looked the better team but Swans defended well 🙁
mark(Quote)
Frustrating. all good bar finished product ie goal.
Penalty-Spot(Quote)
Can’t blame anyone except ourselfs we had loads of chances to win the game
Big Dave(Quote)
bad result considering dominance 🙁
KeithRToon(Quote)
Must win next 2 now (WBA and Bolton (a)), with Liverpool and Man U on the horizon
M(Quote)
Cannit fault any of the lads weve played much worse and won this season, Luck will defo change…
CC(Quote)
2 points in 5 games is pretty awful.
We just don’t create enough clear cut chances.
Moreno(Quote)
the lads played well.
but the BIG question is why was benny overlooked for young harris and sammie
hitman(Quote)
Probably deserved the win on 1st half performance but Rogers managed it well and they got their draw. ****.
Fans Should Own The Club(Quote)
Santon looked great. good to see Colo and Tiote back. Perched played well also.
mark(Quote)
That was poor. 2 points from 15 available. These are supposed to be our bread and butter games. Is it all unravelling for us???
Michael12(Quote)
I dont think the next 2 are must win at all. Decent point today, played well. Not the end of the world, at least its a point. Our great form at start of season makes up for games like today.
At least its a point! Howay the lads, Could be much worse, look at blackburn and bolton today.
The 59 sound(Quote)
A point is a point but we really should have won by the sounds of it so I’m disappointed. Sounded like one of “them” games…
No Ben Arfa again either. He’ll not be here long I reckon…
toonsy(Quote)
Penalty-Spot.
Some of those fans have probably been going every week for 40 years though…hardly shame on them for beating the crowds when it looks like we could play another 3 hours and not score 😕
Moreno(Quote)
moreno we played well today , 3 points on wed and thats 30 points at xmas which will be amazing!!
santon a big plus for us today! hes getting better and better
stil no ben arfa?? whats wrong with him??
Army69(Quote)
Plenty of attacking chances but nobody putting them away. Ben Arfa instead of Best, or Obertan? Surely he needs to get involved
Newkie(Quote)
Swansea will be by far the happier team. They defended well in the2nd half
steverd(Quote)
Surely benny has no future here under Pards. He’s not rated on the wing and if we get another striker, where des he fit it? Vuckic and Sammy preferred as subs. Not complaining just observing
mark(Quote)
Perch was outstanding. He didn’t put a foot wrong and was hassling them right up until the final minute. Quality performance.
I feel we could have done without Tiote today though. Needed a bit more craft and guile and they only had Graham up front the whole game.
Moreno(Quote)
Yeah toonsy a point is a point. Could be in much worse situations. Least we are in the right half of the table. Thats all that matters.
The 59 sound(Quote)
Well , I suppose this is a game where you can say, **** happens because Swansea came to frustrate and handled it well.
It’s these types of games where you know just 1 goal could open the floodgates but the longer it stayed stalemate, the more chance of us getting stung and that would have been hard to take, so on that note I’m not too disappointed.
Santon is class and the more game time he gets, the better he will get, so I think he’s just nailed down his spot.
A nice big applause to James Perch who I think played really well today alongside Captain marvelous Colo.
The overall team performance was very good so on that note I’m happy with that.
On another day we would have destroyed a lot of teams but fair play to Swansea, they set their stall out and stuck to it.
