Game On! Newcastle v Liverpool

Game on at St James' Park
Welcome one and all to this ‘Game On’ article which will take you through every twist and turn of the match against Liverpool this afternoon.

As things stand we need a win to keep pace with Chelsea who won 4-2 at Aston Villa yesterday. However if you think that catching and overtaking Chelsea is a bit out of reach for us then another way of looking at it is to consider that a win would put us ten points clear of seventh placed Everton, and eleven points clear of eighth placed Liverpool.

In short a win would give us a stranglehold on sixth in the league and would give us the optimum chance of qualifying for Europe should results in the FA Cup fall in our favour. Even a draw wouldn’t be the end of the world when you consider our recent form against the Reds, but that is just being negative, or realistic, I forget…

Anyway, enough preamble. We’ve already had enough thanks to NUFC_stats fantastic stat-attack and my very own match preview, but if you haven’t already read them make sure you do so just so you can be armed with the stats and latest injury news ahead of the match.

Speaking of team news, it will be featured below in full when Big Dave updates it for you all as I’m at work as things stand. No rest for the wicked and all that… Unfortunately.

  5. Looking better iI think our goal has helped to settle us somewhat. Want more Toon goals though cause these are well sneaky on the break. Need to press more as old man Carra looks slow today. 😀

  6. Shall we have a whip round to see if we can raise enough cash to pay a hitman to take out this biased commentary team who are desperate for Pool to score. 👿

  7. You are right dave. you certainly wouldn’t want to leave suarez alone in a room full of antique wooden furniture

  8. Pards needs to do something at LB for the second half. Maybe bring on Raylor/Santon and move Jonas up for Guthrie. Would be harsh on Guthrie but might be needed here

  9. Guthrie played well I thought ,sad if he had to make way but yeh left sides exposed too much.

  10. Have a sneaky feeling that Pardew might take Benny off for Raylor, and move jonas further up the pitch. Benny played magnificently in the first half but his energy level waned off at the closing stages. Hope he stays on the pitch though, he is raping Enrique at the moment 😈

  11. i think Pards will stick with Jonas at LB for a bit more, maybe give him a bit of quick coaching on how to watch Bellamy better. Guthrie is doing very well, and would not deserve to get taken off yet.

Keep feeding the ball to Ben Arfa though! Doing great work, and helping out the defense plenty!

Cant take Benny off – that would be the end of civilisation as we know it.

And possibly the end of service for Ba and Cisse

  13. Toon@jer, no way Ben Arfa is coming off. We would just be asking them to attack us at that point, and we all know how **** our defense is right now. Pardew will just likely give some quick tips over the break

  14. Im at work and can’t get a stream up. How are we doing. I keep checking my phone for updates, but I’m a bag of nerves here. I so desperately want us to beat the ‘dippers. Can we do it? Please say we can! Please! 😀

  15. Jonas is constantly out of position. To compound things he dives in and takes himself out the game every time the ball is played behind him

Bellamy or not, Jonas can’t stay there – Pardew must make a change

  16. Just saw that dive on the replay – absolutely shocking! 👿

Wonder what Pardew will do to try and sure up our left side? Thought Willo and Perch have both played a blinder so far, and HBA looks a big threat too. Hope Pardew doesn’t sacrifice him for a more defensive player.

Anyone notice Liverpool never play Bellamy, Spearing and Kuyt all at the same time? Automatic 10 point reduction for fielding a ****-ugly team.
