Game On! Swansea v Newcastle – Santon starts at left-back!

Game On at The Liberty
It’s Game On again right now as the Easter fixture schedule springs into action with Newcastle travelling to the depths of South Wales to take on Swansea City.

Newcastle go looking or a fourth win on the spin, something not achieved for a good few years, but it won’t be easy against a team who have capacity to cause damage and who will be looking to get back to winning ways after two defeats in a row.

It’s an excellent game in prospect, with much being made of Swansea’s slick possession game coming up against our pacey and creative attack. We can win, but we’ll need to be on top of our game right from the word go to get something from a ground which has proved fruitless for Premier League “big guns” like Manchester City and Arsenal.

Of course something that may tip the balance in our favour is the fact that we have something to play for still, with Europe on the agenda for Alan Pardew and Co. Swansea are safe and have little to play for other than pride, so maybe that is something that can work in our favour? Maybe not? Who knows? It won’t be long before we find out though…

Team news will be featured below and will be updated as soon as is humanly possible. For a change I’m actually off today so Big Dave and Jobey and the rest can put their feet up and let the master take the reins once more.

For more background, build up, analysis, stats and facts ahead of the match you need look no further than our very own match preview. You might have missed it earlier as I posted another article about ten minutes later so if you haven’t had a read make sure you do so. Mind if that’s not enough then make sure you have a peek at NUFC_stats’ marvellous “Stat Attack”.

And that just about wraps it up…

  1. MM – You can say the same about most of the team. I can think of players who are having a worse game than Cabaye.

    Ba
    Benny

There’s two for starters. I’d add Cisse but his goal saves him.

  2. Too right Williamson, give them **** for that man. Not one Newcastle player in the middle of the box ready for a knockdown.

  3. Hmm. Fergie?

Did I see in the stats article that Swansea attack more down the right than any other team? Is that why Cisse was almost playing at LB for so long?

    Is Gosling a possession player?

    Abeid?

  4. BBC Live Update AND Sky don’t seem to know Ferguson is a winger who plays full back. They don’t seem to know half our squad.

    Bastards.

  5. I am surprised with the sub of ryan taylor.

Dan gosling is more of tackler and mid is his natural position. 😕

  7. They can have as much posession as they like but when you have Cisse and HBA in the team you only need a half a chance and we’re playing to that tactic…

  11. i dont know why you are all worried…if a team can play this **** for 3/4 of the game and still be in front … its just not swansea’s day. we cant loose this one. its all fate and pre-determined.

  12. Jamie Redknapp’s finest piece of punditry ever:

Cisse works best when he just hits it, if he thinks, he messes up.

    Insightful and true, instinct striker.

  13. Christ almighty what a finish!

I’m worried about Ba though. Did anyone else see just after the goal when it cut to a shot of Pardew celebrating with Carver on the touchline – Ba was sitting on the subs bench with a face like a smacked ***, not smiling or celebrating at all 😕

  14. We was talking about the betting odds last night 80/1 Toon to win 2.0 cisse to score first!

  15. cisse is bloody incredible! the most instinctive striker ive ever seen…i wasnt buying into the whole Ba being unhappy buzz but when the cameras changed to pardew after the goal, you could see Ba in the background and he didnt look happy in the slightest
