Game On! Newcastle v Norwich

Game On at St James’
Newcastle host Norwich City this afternoon as the domestic season resumes once more after a brief journey into Europe and back.

The home side have drawn the last three on the spin in all competitions and will be looking to get back to winning ways knowing that three points against former manager Chris Hughton’s Canary outfit will catapult the misfiring Magpies back into the top half of the table.

I expect no tired excuses aside perhaps from our defence as this will be the third ninety minutes that some of them will have played within the space of six days. Add to that the travelling to and from Madeira and you can perhaps see why some of our defence may just be a little bit jaded, the poor souls…

Hopefully it doesn’t boil down to our defence and perhaps we can instead focus on some attacking threat? None of our big hitting attacking players made the trip to Madeira in midweek so I expect no excuses of tiredness from any of them, or anybody in our midfield for that matter.

If you choose to, you can read Shamrock’s most excellent match preview by clicking here. It’s full of fun facts and fascinating titbits regarding the history of both clubs, both in general and from when they have faced off against each other, with some sound and solid thoughts ahead of the game today.

Unfortunately this is a kick-off that has been moved due to our Europa League commitments which means that the game is not being broadcast live here in the UK. Instead Sky are fizzing themselves silly over another “Super Sunday” which has seen the “random” fixture computer schedule clashes between the bigger sides all on the same day. Funny that… Consequently if you can locate a stream and wish to share it with fellow NUFC fans then you can do so by posting the link in the ‘comments’ section below.

Which just about wraps this up. Team news, as ever, will be posted below as and when it becomes available.

Will it be happy returns for Hughton? Or will Pardew p*ss on his parade?

Howay the lads!

  1. Commentators are saying exactly the same. Dont’ let your mate take it, this isn’t a friendly. Win the game first and foremost.

  2. Cisse cannot score easy goals.-.-”

Or that his season starts in Jan.LMAO.

Now is ba back to scoring.

  3. Neewkie @ 151 yeah hindsight is a wonderful thing if Cisse had scored they would be talking about how brill it was and how it showed team camaraderie

  4. Dave-It doesn’t matter. He’s already missed a pen, so has Ba. Let more proven players take them.

I doubt they’d be saying it was brilliant. For me a penalty must equal a goal, anything else is very poor on behalf of the taker.

  5. If Benny doesn’t touch the ball we just no chance of creating some danger. It always him who gives us a chance to score

  6. Our set pieces have been better today.

They are actually finding Newcastle players 😯

And we are threatening from them 😯

  7. Can’t believe Norwich are just hoofing the ball up 😯

I expected more from Pep Hughton the way some go on 😆

  8. How can “an arm” look offside when the rules say it has to be clear daylight between attacker and defender?

    Commentators 🙄

  9. this tactic of playing every set piece to williamson is ultimately proving fruitless as he isnt a footballer and directs them to nowhere and to nobody…still fuming we didnt get a CB and are stuck with him as back up

  10. Tiote is being an utter fucking disgrace today like. Sort it out ya *****. Yes, that’s how important Tiote is to our passing game 🙄

  11. I have a feeling Tiote was ORDERED to come on and put himself about. Norwich were very physical today and Pards may well have told him to give them some back to break up their mentality a bit. Just a theory but reckon i’m right.

  12. yet another awful performance! this anita lad looks average enough at best…as for obertan, what a clown! no brain whatsoever! thank god for HBA, creating everything for us

  13. Playing poorly and coming up with a win is a part of being a successful team. Man U have done it for years… It can’t always be pretty..

  14. Next game against Man utd. Please play the youths and fringe for that. It might work like previous time against chelsea 😛

  15. Ugly, ugly win, but a win none the less. No such thing as a bad 3 points.

I’m giving them a break for now. We’ve got 8 points form 5 matches depite having two key players clearly out of form (Cisse and Cabaye) and 3-4 key players injured. We just need to hang on and get out points for now and then look to take off

  16. Sham @ 218 if that was Pards fault then I think he should hang his head in shame because Tiote could have got sent off and cost us the game, he is a fuking tool sometimes and I do believe that he will cost us a game or 2 if he gets on like that which he will 😯

  17. In all honesty I think “performance” wise this was a bit better. Ba played well, as did Benny, Harps, and Staylor/Willo looked better. The rest of the team did that they do, work hard generally, break up play…

Still it should have been much better and should have been a lot easier. At 2-0 I reckon the floodgates might have opened but at 1-0 we had to keep it cagey. 3 points is paramount.

Cisse was the worst player, although better than Obertan who was terrible when he came on. Can we just use fergie and Sammy from now on… 😕
