Game On! Sunderland v Newcastle

Sunderland's Stadium of Light.

Sunderland's Stadium of Light.
The natives pile in at Sunderland.
It’s here. It’s finally here. The 147th Tyne-Wear derby is almost upon us, and what better way to spend it than on here with over NUFC fans?

Of course you could always argue that being at the game would be better, but with tickets for this one pretty much out of reach for a lot of fans it appears that won;t be the case aside for a lucky 2,500 or so travelling fans.

On the other hand there are plus points when it comes to avoiding a trip to Wearside in person. You won’t pick up any of that stench that emanates from the area and you won’t come face-to-face with the arsehole of humanity that reside in Sunderland. The y really are a “special” bunch!

Banter aside there is more than just a match to be played today. This one is too big to be called “just a game of football”. It matters to too many people in the local area, on both sides of the divide, for it to be called “just another game”.

Last time out we saw that both managers “get it” when it comes to the importance of this fixture. Both Alan Pardew and Martin O’Neill had words during the game and it was an altogether unsavoury incident. However it’s something typifies the passion and intensity this fixture brings with it.

Anyway I don’t need to write much more. Suffice to say that team news will be added below and I dare say that people will leave links to streams in the comments section below. For now though we’ll just have to wait and see how it all pans out.

Howay the lads!

  1. They are lightweight in midfield, Certainly an area we can get at them. Two midfielders at full back is brave with Benny red hot at the mo.

Lets hope they arent due their decadial 2-1 fluke… 🙄

  2. Stevie Tayls will be absolutely gutted like!

Hope this gives Cisse a kick up the backside too but the main story..

    THE KING STARTS!!!!

  3. Lets get it on as I can’t hack the nerves today 😥 I’m a bit surprised Pards has benched Cisse 😕 as im sure he’ll have to come on at sometime as Strolla won’t last the full game, but maybe it’ll work for the better and Cisse will come on with a point to prove

  4. Strolla for Cisse! Could be a good move and Cisse certainly is a good player to be able to bring on.

Looking at their defence I really expect HBA, Strolla and Ba to cause them problems.

I also expect them to line up 4-3-3 with Strolla on the left.

  6. BIG DAVE @6 .com has a theory on this…

‘Our own theory why the lime has got the nod is that the maroon kit could be proving to be unpopular with the players or staff, as was the case with the “unlucky” blue effort in 2010/11, which was discarded after four PL away losses in as many airings.

The current maroon one was debuted at Everton in a defeat on the final day of last season and worn this time round for draws at Atromitos and Reading. By contrast, we’ve not conceded a goal yet wearing the lime one in two European League home wins and an away draw.’

First thing that stood out to me is that we have 18 players fit without kids on the bench. 😯

  7. If there’s any game where Shola start it is this one, think he would have been a better impact player but if he scores in the first few mins I won’t mind too much 😆

  8. DJG – Yeah I thought that when writing out the teams that we have a lot more strength on the bench today than we’ve had in a while.

  9. Regardless of the result today im fully expecting us to rocket up the table pre crimbo now weve got our back four and keeper something like again…

  10. DJG I don’t buy into a lucky kit theory the team that wears the kit make their own luck,

Newkie I thought it would have been better to have Strolla as an impact because imo he dosen’t have 90 mins in the tank so he would only be able to play a bit part, so it would have been better to show Cisse the faith then if it’s not going our way then bring Strolla on, as it is Cisse see’s that Pards doesn’t have faith in him but will have to bring him on at some stage. it could be a masterstroke or it could be a big mistake, i’m hoping it’s the former 😉

Richie have you not done the streams 1st 😀

  11. Quite a good feature on Sky there. Just saying why this football game is more than just a football game.

  12. I personally thought Shola would be utilised from the bench. If things aren’t going well you bring him on…not just for the fact he scores lots against the scum but because seeing the Makem Slayer stroll on when you need a hero…that just lifts everyone!

  13. Either Pards is punishing Taylor for his comments or he’s not fully fit cus Willo is a much weaker option. My theory that Pards won’t bench Cissé cus of his price tag was wrong then, lets just hope the Mackem Slayer can keep up his brutality against the unwashed.

  14. Dave-Yeah I know what you mean, but usually he only starts struggling when he’s played week in week out for a while, I think he could play 90, esp against the scum, he did it in the 5-1 even if that was two years ago 😆

Although I wouldn’t expect him to play the full match as I’m sure Cis will replace him at some point…hopefully it’s after he’s got his hattrick, then Cisse can come on and get one himself 😉

  15. Moreno
I agree with that, Shola is the ultimate impact sub. He has about 45 minutes in him of class, longer than that and we get groaning football “Oh FFS sake Shola!”
    “What are you doing Ameobi?”
    Ect…

  16. I’m surprised that Cisse and the stamp licker are on the bench.. Be interesting to see how BA and Shola link up..they were good against Everton to be fare 🙂

  17. Just want to see the Lads put in a committed performance from the off.
If everything clicks, then we are too good for them.
Tiote needs to keep a level head.
    So does the ref 😕

  18. Well its simple really win at all costs . i have afeeling Benny is going too destroy them today 4-0 the Toon.

  19. Surprised Saylor and Cisse on the bench but with Krul Colo and Tiote back in alot stronger!!
    Keep ya heed Mr T.!!

Fucking come on boys!!!!! COME ON!!!!

  20. Gutted Cisse is on the bench, how is that gonna help his confidence 😕 . Shola won’t last the 90 and if he does he’ll tire as normal, would of prefered him as a sub . C’mon lads .

  21. Fuk me. Thought I’d just take another beer from the fridge before the game started. I come back n it’s 1-0. I should take more beers

  22. why was he a fraction late in the tackle?…. because he was fucking being held back – what a horrendous decision

      (Quote)

  23. We had control of the game. Sunderland were being kept quiet. now a fucking idiotic second from Tiote has put us on the back foot for the rest of the game. Fucking fuming with him.

      (Quote)

  24. Johno if it was McClean or someone of theirs we would be screaming that he was a dirty bastad, said it all along Tiote is a red card on legs

      (Quote)

  25. It was harsh to be sent off due to the foul on him, but he still when it studs up with feet off the ground. Ref had no choice.

      (Quote)

  26. I fecking knew Tiote was going to get sent off today!! Bloody idiot!!
Cabaye and Jonas to sit in midfield and have Ba work the left flank for me now like.
