Colo decision expected today

Colo future still clouded in doubt
Colo future still clouded in doubt
Fabricio Coloccini’s could be sorted out one way or another today if you listen to reports in the press and the mutterings of his Father.

A meeting was believed to have been held yesterday with lawyers representing both parties present, but it would appear that the meeting ended with no resolution and further talks are scheduled for today.

Colo, apparently anyway, wants to return to Argentina to play for San Lorenzo, a team he supposedly supports and a club which his Father works currently. San Lorenzo also want to sign the player, but the issue is that Colo is under contract with us having signed a new deal last year, and San Lorenzo can’t afford to pay market value for him and basically want Newcastle to let him go for free.

All this has been muddied by rumours of personal problems which remain just that for now with, and rightly so, no confirmation on the rumours from either party. However, the words of Colo’s Father make me wonder what would happen if we just turned round and said no?

“There was an inconclusive meeting today,” Coloccini Snr told Rock and Closs on Monday. “Tomorrow (Tuesday) there will be a decision. We both desire the transfer.

“Fabricio is very anxious. He wants a decision to be made one way or another. I believe this is the moment to move. Newcastle have asked him to wait until May. The issue is if San Lorenzo will wait until that date.”

“It would be beautiful if both of us were at San Lorenzo, the club we love. Fabricio is eager to return but he wants to do so in an elegant way.”

The “he wants a decision made one way or another” part doesn’t exactly paint a picture of someone who is dead set on a move does it? Get him to stay until the summer and reassess the situation then! Also I dare say the part about Colo wanting to renege on his contract in an “elegant way” is lost a bit in translation. I’d guess amicable would have been a better word to use.

I don’t know what is going to happen with this one to be honest. I’m of the opinion that if he wants away then we must get a transfer fee for him as, whatever you think of the board, the manager, the club, right now, we aren’t a charity.

On the other hand, if his heart is set on San Lorenzo, as it is according to his Dad, then do we keep an unhappy player?

I guess we’ll see what happens soon enough.

  1. Toonsy ,this is seriously starting to **** me off now,I’m very angry with Colo ,San Lorenzo and his dad. To put us in this position when we are in such dire straits is so unprofessional and unbecoming of a captain .He sullies the position so elequently filled by the likes of Shearer . I don’t believe his wife is ill for one moment ,well she might be sick of Colo if rumours are true but not sick sick. I certain if she were ill he would of been granted compassionate leave by now as even Jabba wouldn’t be that heartless and his family would be shouting the odds about us being a heartless club .As it is the only utterings coming from his dad is the fact he wants back to Argentina to play for SL,not a mention of illness 🙄 . No I’m bloody fuming that he thinks it’s acceptable to dump on us just when we need him and help SL to fight relegation instead.Ffs ,it’s just not on ,but if he wants to leave so much what can we do ,he’s acting like a *@$% and should be stripped of the captaincy enough is enough. All he is doing is diverting attention away from the business of getting badly needed players over the line and it’s not on .

  2. i think he will stay..his dad seems to be changing his story every day. one day he’s saying the decision will be made last week, then in Monday and now this Tuesday.

Btw looks like we are signing haidara. A step closer to a complete french first 11

  3. Ron ,question is will all these Frenchies have the stomach for a scrap 😕 Might need some British grit in there imo.

  4. I think that colo has something on the club or a senior person at the club. that is the reason that he wants to leave and its also the leverage he is hoping will allow him to leave without any drama.. allowing him to leave in ‘an elegant way’. i dont know what it is but i bet it involves a woman.. cos lets be honest, it always does. mike ashley would kill is granny for a quid, if colo is allowed to leave in the summer for free, let alone now, then there is a serious reason behind it and it means that whatever it is is, has some serious bargaining power.
i am more concerned as to why our 7 million quid signing from france never showed up for his medical yesterday and that there are whispers of arsenal in for him now. Colo is over adn it is hopefully going to be a case of ‘ the king is dead, long live the king’ and not just ‘ the king is dead’.

  5. Kim I agree with you, this situation is ridiculous and it having been allowed to drag on this long is insane. Initially when I thought it was his wife or kids I could have accepted him going, but if it’s just to agitate to go back home at this crucial time for us, he will have lost all respect I have for him. Thing is I always felt he was much more honourable than that. He seemed settled, just moved house, loving it here and within a space of a few months wanting away.
I wonder if his dad is totally behind this. Remember reading somewhere that he did some kind of dodgey deal when Collo moved to Italy as a young lad as his dad was his manager. Can’t remember the details now but I’m sure it caused a big issue and Colo couldn’t play and it affected his registration or something, but his dad had knowingly instigated it. Sure someone will be able to put me straight. Is it his dad putting big pressure on him and he is feeling some sort of loyalty to him or whatever I don’t know. Can’t imagine Ashley being taken in by all these shennanigans if it would cause him to lose money. The fact they both have their lawyers at the meeting doesn’t sound too good.

  6. Kim

The rumour I heard was that he’s got some lass up in cramlington pregnant so his wife’s stormed off to argentina.

It kind of adds up to me, hence why they’re so quiet.

Anyway… That’s just rumours, whatever the reason is he has a moral obligation to stay until the summer at least.

People are right, we’re not a charity so we should get full compensation.

  7. Nobby… like i said.. its always about a bird in the end. just cos his **** went walkies is not a good enough reason to run off. his family was not on his brain to much at the time he put it somewhere he should not have .. if this is the case. i think he should stay till the summer.

  8. I’m assuming Hairdryer is for the development squad, not the first team. ❓
Cant see him replacing Santon at LB.
It will take him 6 months to get used to the PL.
If he starts at LB and santon moves to LW, then he will get owned imo.
Just like Jose did when first here.
    He’s only 20 ffs.

He will get owned like, but at 20 he expects to be back up??? And if that’s the case Danny Simpson must be on his way out.

    Could be what we need.

Replacing colo with mym is no improvement either.

  13. If Colo is forced to stay until May, what are people’s opinions on him keeping the armband until the end of the season? Should he keep it with everyone knowing he wants away, or give it to someone like Cabaye to rally our new french contingent in particular for the relegation fight ahead?

  14. Nobby – whats it got to do with simpson ❓
I thought Debushy was to replace him. 😕

  15. @Craig Know what you mean… but Sissoko would be an immense signing. Capable of grabbing a game by the scruff of the neck – very powerful player.

I agree with all the comments regarding MBiwa… he’d be a great signing, but we need another if Colo leaves.

      (Quote)

  16. I dont care if the sissoko deal is NEARLY done.
We have learnt the hard way, no deal is done til they are holding up a shirt and it is announced as official.
Just waiting for the next kick in the goolies.

      (Quote)

  17. I think if he stays he should wear the band. its just plain vindictive and childish to take it off him while he is still here. if the man stays let him ho out in the summer with his head held high.

  20. Colo in my eyes has done nothing wrong in his dealing with the club. He wants to leave for personal reasons. As hard and all as it is too imagine his personal life will come first over any football club. He is human and stuff like this happens in life. I would love him to stay and I think he will stay until atleast May. And personal problems can be resolved. A bit of time can be a marvelous thing.
Think signing Hairdryer ( great name 😆 ) is a step in right direction. We havent had proper cover at lb since I actually dont kow when. He wont turn around our season but is a good signing. Appafrently we are getting a real bargin with him.
We do need a new centreback and a new striker and fast. We need to get some wins on the board. I am one of the most optimistic people in the world but we are in deep trouble. Villa is a game we have to win.

      (Quote)

  21. Deb@17 ,Agree ,he’s not even acting like a captain is he. 👿

Nobby@8 ,If that is true then it’s his problem not ours .he has a moral obligation to honor his contract to us end of . Also if true what happens to that poor lass and baby when he sods off back to Argentina 🙄 looks like he may have obligations all over the shot. 🙄

      (Quote)

  22. Johno @26 How can you say he’s done nowt wrong ,he’s asking to leave when we are in a relegation scrap and what’s more expects to go for nothing 😯 It’s just wrong imo.Not the club or fans thought he strayed if that’s the case. Obviously if it’s illness then that’s entirely different but really feel the club would of given compassionate leave if that were the case.

  24. Kim players come and go at football clubs all the time. He could of done a Tevez and just walked. But he has spoken to the club and by the sounds of it he could well stay. Dont get me wrong I would rather this not be a problem. However these things happen in life. He is putting his personal life a head of the club and for me that is fine. And he hasnt asked to leave for nothing. San lorenzo president suggest we should recind his contract. I havent heard Colo in the press saying he wants to leave. We havent heard anything from him. He is keeping his head down until this is resolved. And I think that is showing the club and the fans respect.

      (Quote)

  25. Johno Toon, the fact he wants to go for personal reasons, without any hint of what they are is not helping his cause. If he said due to serious illness of a family member, marital issues etc without going in to detail people would at least understand why he as captain wants to abandon ship for personal issues at this crucial point the outcome of which could determine our future for years to come. The fact he is the captain means he should be even more accountable. The fact his dad seems to have a gob on him like Joey, saying things like it will be wonderful for us to be together at this club etc etc is just causing further confusion and cynicism. I’m sure there are plenty of people who would love to return to their home. I would love to return and live in Newcastle, but responsibilities and family circumstances mean I can’t certainly for the forseeable future so I just need to get in with it. He is no different. If all of this is bullshit to angle a move at this time as our captain in the middle of a NUFC crisis, then he is not much of a captain, and that’s how the other players may view it.

      (Quote)

  26. Johno I agreed that hls family come 1st and they are more important than footie thats why I say we should let him go and be with his family, give him till the end of the season to say if he gets things sorted and in the meantime we just hold on to his registration, until he either sorts his head out or San lorenzo pay for him 😉 problem solved,
Either way we need to give the armband to someone that van lead, and it shouldn’t be used as a sweetner

I'm certainly in no mood to cancel the mans contract, let him go to lorenzo for free, only for them to sell him to AC Milan a year later for big bucks. Thanks but no thanks.

  28. NEWCASTLE United look to have won the race to sign Moussa Sissoko – and the deal could be sealed BEFORE the transfer window slams shut.

With Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa due on Tyneside today to complete the formalities of his £6.7m move from Montpellier, Alan Pardew could soon have two fully-fledged French internationals to boost his struggling team.

Toulouse sporting director Ali Rachedi is understood to have indicated to the media in France the 23-year-old Sissoko will be allowed to leave the Ligue 1 club this month. However, a knockdown fee will be required.

It is now believed a deal is at an advanced stage and he could soon be a Newcastle player, with Sissoko hoping to see his move finalised.

Talks had taken place with Sissoko’s agent and the Magpies over a summer move with his contract set to run out in June.

However, given intense competition from Queens Park Rangers, Monaco and Marseille – not to mention Newcastle’s injury problems and Cheick Tiote’s absence due to the African Cup of Nations – the deal is now understood to have been brought forward to the January window.

The Magpies could do with fresh blood and battling midfielder Sissoko would help them drag themselves away from the relegation dogfight.

The box-to-box midfielder has made 100 appearances for Toulouse and netted eight goals.

He is also a close pal of Yohan Cabaye, who has encouraged him to make the switch to United.

As reported in last night’s Chronicle, United manager Pardew is set to be fully backed by the United board in the closing days of the window.

The addition of 20-year-old left-back Massadio Haidara from Nancy could even complete a French treble.

Reports in France today said Haidara was subject of a £2.9m bid from Newcastle.

That would just leave the striking positions to be filled and Bordeaux could yet see another bid for Yoan Gouffran in the coming days.

  29. Newkie it certainly makes you wonder.

Dave agree if it is personal let him go but keep his registration. He can have time to resolve his issues and then either be sold or he can buy himself out or return here.

Got to go out for a while laters

      (Quote)

  30. I’m with most on here: if there was some cause for sympathy like a sick wife (who lives here, so….?) it would have been sniffed out by now. My guess is that Colo’s dad is being a **** and screwing over our club to further his own career, and he knows his club won’t take his claims to bring a world-class name in for free if he can’t do it PDQ.

If there has been a family fall-out over an indiscretion that would help him, not us. And if a player moved every time he got caught being a **** and dipping his wick away from home, squads would change on a daily basis.

Ideally Colo will stay, keep the armband, and that’ll buy some time for any personal issues to calm down. I think he’s played ok since the whole thing came to light, so I think he’ll handle that professionally.

I also think Ashley is more likely to start wearing a tutu to work than he is to let him go, and Colo won’t be able to afford to buy out his own contract.

As for signings – looking ok right now, but the eggs haven’t even started to move yet.

      (Quote)

  31. So lets see,

Mbiwa, Haidara, Sissoko, Gouffran and Van Wolfwinkel… all in…

Not a chance… No way Ashley will make six signings of that stature in January. Most would want relegation clauses.

Think the press are being fed bollocks by the club. Have a bad feeling about this… Ashley special…

      (Quote)

  32. Kim do you honestly believe if it was illness he would still be here he would have been away already and I would understand and agree with him.
But would he have then let his Dad and San Lorenzo to muddy the water by repeatedly saying that he (Colo) wants to play for them ? I also heard a few ITK guys in interviews saying that in Argie there is nowt being reported about personal problems, just that he wants to return to play for San Lorenzo

      (Quote)

  33. 3Hours – more promising stuff. If we get 3 more bodies, I’ll have to admit they’ve done what was needed. 10 months late, but hey… 😮

      (Quote)

  34. Van Wolfswinkel I remember missing out on him before.
That could be an interesting one

      (Quote)

  35. Why oh why would anybody (Colo or San Lorenzo) expect us to just give our captain and best defender away? It’s ludicrous! That’s why I believe the rumour about San Lorenzo having a financial backer could be true, but even then I would tell them to **** off and come back in July.

As for incomings I would be happy with:

    Haidara
    Sissoko
    Mbiwa
    Thauvin
    A Striker

    I won’t hold my breath though…

      (Quote)

  36. Big Dave – totally agree. No evidence for these ‘personal problems’ but lots to support the idea that Colo’s dad is just angling for a career-making move at the expense of everyone else, including his own son.

He can bog off and play with the traffic.

      (Quote)

  37. Deb why should he drag his families linen out for the world to see? Should he sell the story to Hello or Ok for a few bob while he is at it? Its his personal life and he is entitled to privacy. I dont think we have a right to know. And Newkie he is very lucky to be able to have a career as professional footballer and he does make more money a week than most of us earn in a year but whats that got to do with anything? He has a personal issue and he has the right to try resolve that in anyway he see’s fit. Its his life. But I think he has been very respectful to the club and us the fans. He could jump on a plane and never come back.

      (Quote)

  38. Whumpie how can you let a player that doesn’t want to be here keep the armband ? He should never have had it in the 1st place as he’s never been a leader.
And the captaincy of our club shouldn’t be used as a sweetner to try to keep a player 😯

  40. Johno-He could jump on the plane, but he would **** his wages into the wind and legally still wouldn’t be able to play for anyone bar the Lorenzo pub team. I’m not so sure his problem is so big he would sacrifice his career over it-as you pointed out if it was that big a deal he would have left already.

As it likely isn’t that big a deal-he’s going to want to make sure the money comes in and he has other options avaliable. I agree he’s not been a complete **** about it, but with his fathers quotes “one way or the other” he doesn’t seem that insistent on leaving. Sounds more like he’d like to pick up tidy wages in nicer climes. Well wouldn’t we all…but sorry, no.

      (Quote)

  41. I agree Dave, he should have been stripped of the captaincy and I would have given it to Cabaye, although the worrying thing for us is that there aren’t many leaders in the squad.

      (Quote)

  42. Johno why would he have to drag his linen into public ? He just has to get compassionate leave and jump on the 1st plane he can get.
He will only need a passport not his registration papers, so he should have been away back already instead of still here fuking about to get the club to give him to San Lorenzo

      (Quote)

  43. I wouldn’t strip the captaincy just yet…Ideally we’ll convince him to stay and help him where we can, get him back on board and carry on with the season. If he’s not convinced then we can give it to someone else. We don’t want him staying halfheartedly and either still captain or stripped of the captaincy, both would cause trouble…

Sounds like it’s slipping away. He should, really, be here by now!

Is this another ‘Llambias again’ as Joey Barton put it………..

This one is looking like the best player out of the ones being linked / bid for.

Really want Sissoko next. I feel we have a really lightweight midfield in terms of presence: all too small.

Worryingly no striker yet, don’t think we’ll survive with Shola on the wing!

      (Quote)

  45. Dave Im saying he shouldnt have to drag his family linen public as Deb @ 35 said. I think he has the right to privacy and resolve whatever issues he and his family have. If he wants to leave for family reasons I have no problem with that. He should put his family first.
Newkie Colo’s father is been a **** about it. But just becasue his father is saying it doesnt make it true. He is in discussion with the club and is still playing until its finally resolved. Hopefully he stays and he can sort of his family issues. But if he goes I say good luck to him and wish him the best for his future.

      (Quote)

  46. no point in making the guy stay AND also strip the captaincy ffs. That is way to petty and also a bit stupid.. “Hey colo… pleeeese stay cos we need you until the end of the season.. you are our leader and galvanise the team and our best defender… oh and if you stay give us your arm band you ****** as your not fit to wear it”… dont think two tow quite go. its quite simple.. he stays he keeps the band til summer. In summer if he goes give it to cabaye as it seems all the frogs really respect cabs, it would be a great move.

      (Quote)

  47. When Colo comes out and says something objectionable, the captaincy comes into question. Until then all we have is a load of ***** from his dad, which we all know is something you can do nothing about. I think this is the issue that you’re referring to, Deb.

This is from wikipedia, but I have seen the same story confirmed by other sources as well:

“In 1999, at the end of the Apertura championship, he moved to AC Milan. Coloccini was at the centre of a controversy between Boca and Milan, because the transfer from Argentina to Italy wasn’t agreed between the clubs. Instead, Milan arranged terms with Coloccini’s father (also a former football player), who exercised his parental rights to remove the minor from Argentina. After that, FIFA ordered Milan to pay Boca compensation.”

      (Quote)

  49. Nah, the line the club has to take is stay until the summer as we are short of quality at CB, in a relegation scrap and he has a contract to fulfil. Commit to us until then and we’ll let you go in the summer at a fixed price or whatever. However, you dont share the clubs vision moving forward and clearly dont plan yo be a part of it moving forward – which is fair enough – but our Captain needs to bleed black & white and see himself here for years to come as a central point of the squad we are trying to build – so respectfully Colo – hand over the armband. No hard feelings.

Also agree it makes sense for the new Captain to be Anglo-French speaking IF these signings are really taking place. Cabaye would be the obvious choice as he has experience of the area and league. The play also goes through him so I can see his influence and passing style dictating our play if he were given that kind of authority.

Colo is not vocal enough. At least we see ashes of passion in Cabaye from time to time. That’s what we need.

      (Quote)

  50. *flashes.

Cabaye as Captain with Benny, Sissoko, Mbiwa et al around him would revolutionise our style of play despite Pardew’s fascination with hoofball. Lets just hope these signings are pulled off. Big chunk of faith restored in the board if they do come off… If they let Colo go thiugh, we need another CB in without question.

  55. Im inclined to go along with that Dave,at the moment we need a Captain that speaks French and English as the majority of our players understand that, not Spanish. In my opinion he has never been the player everyone claims he is,he had one good season and last season wasnt down to just him it was a team effort. This season he has been bollox along with others I might add.We are in the trenches here at the moment and we need our players to dig in deep and be lead.Im just not sure Argentinians have that do or die attitude thats required right now,If we dont get out of this mess we are in then we will be down down in the fizzy for a few seasons because all these players we have on our books wont take pay cuts or want to play for us in the second tier, they will be off like a shot.Obviously I hope we avoid the drop, but in all honesty players dont give a ****,they just move somewhere else, usually get more money in another team and continue on their merry way and trot out the same old **** they always do about wanting to win things and be in the Champions League, they cant all go to the top 4 but that said,we have very few players that would get into the top 4 teams in my opinion.Anyway rant over,I could go on but its pointless as we all know that to have success you need to invest and keep doing it until you get there, then you need to maintain the investment to stay up there…Anybody think we..are capable of doing that with our current owner and his sidekick?????
