Game On! Tottenham v Newcastle

Game On at the Lane
Game On at the Lane
Good morning! Well it was morning when this was published so don’t get funny if you’re reading this after midday!

An early start awaits as United head off to White Hart Lane to take on Andre Villas-Boas and his in-form Tottenham Hotspur outfit.

I don’t like Villas-Boas, purely for comments made after Chelsea took all three points at St James’ Park last season. That was the match David Luiz escaped a red card for hauling down Demba Ba in the third minute. Being the last man Luiz should have walked but the referee failed to send him off. It didn’t matter as Villa-Boas and his disrespectful trap insisted they only needed ten men anyway, even though they had twelve!

Anyway, let bygones be bygones and all that. That was then and this is now, and while Tottenham have been impressive of late the upturn in fortunes for United can’t be ignored. If this game had been just a few weeks ago I’d have been dreading it but now I have a sense of hope. Call it blind optimism if you will but I’m certain that even if we don’t manage to grab a positive result today it won’t be for the lack of trying.

The match is being broadcast live here in the UK and around the world so if you’re not heading off to White Hart Lane or don’t have access to any of those channels then the chances of picking up a stream are pretty good. Once again normal rules apply and if you know of a decent stream then by all means feel fee to leave a link to it in the ‘comments’ section below.

The match preview is online here for you to peruse at your leisure. It features injury news, stats, facts and a some background behind the fixture. For team news you will need to look below as it will be published as soon as it becomes available. For now though it’s game on!

  1. @indykaila: Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley and his advisors have held meetings with Middle East group regarding full takeover of #NUFC. Early stages

This guy is usually on the nail …. Interesting times

  2. Sort of in two minds about this – obviously would be great to have a huge influx of cash and do a chelski, man city but got a feeling it’s all a bit unsustainable and I quite like the current model of self sustainability

  3. I’m really not sure Perch should be starting. He left a lot of gaps in midfield in the last game…

  4. STEVEP @ 1 hope that does not happen the current set up have got their ****’s into gear and things are looking up . Would rather that Chineese group that was reported to want to invest in an EPL team without buying 100 % came too us . Then we would have no problems with the fair play rules that are kicking in next season , Investment without a takeover keeping an English owner for me would be good .

#NUFC An apology – there was an error in our intial team news tweet. Yoan Gouffran is starting, with Sylvain Marveaux on the bench.

TGS no mate but Dede was telling me about it

  6. good thing about marv being on he bench and on the pitch is he can swap out with himself if he needs a breather.

As for the Middle East Link….we have been down that road a million times.. ashley will not sell up esp if we stay in the PREM and with the new increased money flooding in.

Todays game… hard one but i think a respectable loss to us if i am honest. For once i have to agree with toonsy (****).. i dont like AVB as he said we were ****, second rate team and he could beat us with seven players (or something like that) last season. So this season, i hope that if we win in their own back yard that AP will not miss a chance to have a pop back just for good measure. I know that was chelsea and this is Spurs but its AVB, not the team.

  7. well i think it all hinges on Bale and what kind of game he has… if he is on fire i think we will get ripped to shreds.. its almost worth man marking him all game and taking him out the equation.

i think there will be goals a plenty and i am going 3-2 to the YIDS.

  8. As for all this Bale loving we do have a not so small but very pacey midfielder ourselves SISSOKO and Goofy is not exactly slow either . We can match them in that department now . Just hope Cisse has his scoring boots on today . I think with the up we are on it will be a close game, i would be happy if we came away with a draw .

  9. As with last game, I think we’ll have a go at them. Could be a few goals in it. Just hoping we are the ones who get them.

It’s going to be a battle of midfields.

    Howay le Toon!

  10. If Perch had jumped two inches that wouldn’t have been a goal. But he stood there flat footed and seemingly disinterest as the ball flew past his ear.

Anyway, good goal. Bale is a very good player. Going to be a very very tough ask now.

  11. I’m actually in a bit of shock at Perch’s complete lack of effort there. Even his expression on his was completedly disinterested. 🙄

  12. Outrageous defending by perch, smacks of dyer in Europe years back. The downfalls of having second rate players in the team

  13. We used to be Spurs’ bogey team, but they really have some fantastic players. Excellent attack and strong defence. A point would be a fantastic result. There aren’t going to be much harder fixtures against teams in better form.

  14. For those saying there is no intensity…

Spurs aren’t allowing it. They are a quality team high on confidence. So expect us to be under long spells of pressure. We hope to hope for snatch and grab because we aren’t going to dominate in this game.

The early goal is going to make it MUCH harder, which is why Perch is an idiot for being so complacent. Must say, it is uncharacteristic.

  15. Quite honestly, I think we’re doing ok.

Goal was an individual mistake by Perch.

Cisse should have done better with that header. Good movement though to pull of the back. Just wish he would start finishing. One or two goals and it’s start being more natural to him. He’s an instinctive striker. I just think he’s “thinking” too much about his finishing right now because his confidence is low… if that makes sense. Needs to be more instinctive.

  16. Cabaye has been top notch since he’s returned. Jonas offering no attacking threat unfortunately. Gouffran is looking better and better each game. For someone who we thought was just squad filler he’s arguably a ‘purple’

  17. I think Spurs are a fantastic side. I really do, they have a superb mix of players who all complement one another and a good tactically astute manager.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they finish top three this season.

    GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFY!!!!!!!!

    Brilliant finish, brilliant football!!!

  18. Deflection but still…. 😆

Another assist for Sissoko. We have been a match for Spurs so far. Goal was very derserved IMO.

  19. I know it’s a bit behind but why the hell didn’t Perch jump with the rest of the wall. Him jumping would have stopped the ball getting thro!.

Not sure what I make of this buy out story either?!, 😕
