Game On! Newcastle v Stoke

Game On at St James'
Game On at St James’
After the football results yesterday it has become much clearer what a result would do for either team this afternoon at St James’ Park.

Alan Pardew and Tony Pulis will prep their respective sides knowing that a win could potentially see either side in with a shout of finishing the weekend sat in the top half of the table.

To be more precise, a lot depends on how many goals each team is beaten by. Fulham currently occupy tenth place but don’t play this weekend so it’s their spot up for grabs. To move into tenth all Stoke need to do is draw today, which would see us move above Sunderland, but for United to make some real headway in the league then we need to beat Stoke by two goals which will be enough to propel us into 11th. Yes it is technically possible for us to make tenth today but we’d need to win by six clear goals so it’s unlikely.

So results covered, what about the game today? Well a good place to start if you haven’t already done so is by clicking here and reading our match preview. It’s packed full of injury news, fitness worries, recent form tips, a history of games between the two sides and some fun facts and stats for your delectation.

The match is once again not on the telly box here in the UK, but it is being broadcast overseas so streams may be available for those who can’t attend the game. If you do find a good stream then please feel free to share it by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

As ever team news will be published below, in full, as and when I can get my hands on it. I dare say that whilst I’m updating it somebody will have posted it in the ‘comments’ section anyway but it will be featured at the bottom of this article for sure.

Which means it’s nearly time for kick-off in what is yet another must win game for United against a team occupying the same kind of league position we find ourselves in. It’s a chance to move up the league, and it’s a chance we simply have to take!

Howay the lads!

  1. Michael Owen: “Just signed autographs for about 40 Newcastle fans outside our hotel. Not one single bad word spoken towards me.”

He must have been in disguise….

Can’t see us going after Bony or VW, both seem more than they’re worth, Siem De Jong is realistically one of our targets, high profile and a full international but not many know about him, Captain of a highly successful and skillful team and still very young.

  3. Stu 79 I think Pards was hoping to get 20 mins out of Benny so I guess if he isn’t quite up to it Stoke’s thugs isn’t the best of game to play him in

  4. Griff 😉 yeah because I think there is only 4 that started on thurs, which just shows the difference in the strength we have compared to early on this season

owen’s not injured that must be a first ?
    ——————————-
Tough to get injured when you don’t play. Then again, he seemed to manage that feat quite well when he was with us

  7. Griff I very much hope he plays atleast as strong a team as thurs, and maybe change Oba for Cisse
IMO this is a chance to get to touching distance to silverware which isn’t something we are use to so I for one say go for it 😕

  8. MDS @4 – they thought he was MARK OWEN!!

Andy – Aye I think we will sign either PEA or SDJ – please not Carroll!!

Re the team – swap Jonas with Benny and Jonas on the bench in place of Oba and that would be our strongest 11 and bench IMO. Really fancy us today like and would love an early goal or 2.

M – will there be any remove left in the ground for fans?!

    Re strongest team
What about colo and I think Shola would be ahead of Campbell (for now).

  10. TAE I always got on with him and thought he could be a funny lad at times but a lot of folk never took to him. but then when I got banned from there I seen he was running me down

  11. Andy – I completely forgot about colo , yeah arguably Colo would get in there but I think Saylor and MYM are the pairing going forward as Colo wants out.
As for Shola, not for me mate, granted he has more experience but just doesn’t offer enough for me like – time to hand the reigns to Campbell and see if he can get a goal as a sub CF.

  12. Pardew stated “we missed HBA’s pace”
Thats true, though in fact, never having showing any signs of great pace since he has been at the club, at least as far as my memory serves me..
But Pardew is liable to spout all kinds of nonsence.
I’m not a bit confused as to why he’s not playing, as he was obviously both overweight and outta shape, against Anzhi.
Pardew should not have played him in the second half, as he had obviously run outta gas.
Also a bit of confusion has been posted as to why he is’nt starting, one was, he had a dead leg (there’s some truth to that, but it was both legs that went dead, due to being outta shape)
The other claim,s equally unbelievable, he took a kick, he took a fall, his knee took a knock.
Why cant they just give it too us straight, do they thnk all fans are dumb, or what ?
Would he be on the bench if he had an injury ?
Probably get a late cameo role if we need a goal.
