Game On! Newcastle v Stoke

Game On at St James'
Game On at St James’
After the football results yesterday it has become much clearer what a result would do for either team this afternoon at St James’ Park.

Alan Pardew and Tony Pulis will prep their respective sides knowing that a win could potentially see either side in with a shout of finishing the weekend sat in the top half of the table.

To be more precise, a lot depends on how many goals each team is beaten by. Fulham currently occupy tenth place but don’t play this weekend so it’s their spot up for grabs. To move into tenth all Stoke need to do is draw today, which would see us move above Sunderland, but for United to make some real headway in the league then we need to beat Stoke by two goals which will be enough to propel us into 11th. Yes it is technically possible for us to make tenth today but we’d need to win by six clear goals so it’s unlikely.

So results covered, what about the game today? Well a good place to start if you haven’t already done so is by clicking here and reading our match preview. It’s packed full of injury news, fitness worries, recent form tips, a history of games between the two sides and some fun facts and stats for your delectation.

The match is once again not on the telly box here in the UK, but it is being broadcast overseas so streams may be available for those who can’t attend the game. If you do find a good stream then please feel free to share it by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

As ever team news will be published below, in full, as and when I can get my hands on it. I dare say that whilst I’m updating it somebody will have posted it in the ‘comments’ section anyway but it will be featured at the bottom of this article for sure.

Which means it’s nearly time for kick-off in what is yet another must win game for United against a team occupying the same kind of league position we find ourselves in. It’s a chance to move up the league, and it’s a chance we simply have to take!

Howay the lads!

  1. Kim @ 70 getting a 1st half goal doesn’t really worry me too much as we always seem to come out trying to hold on to the lead in 2nd half. 😕 instead of trying to attack

  2. Dave-He’s from Newport where I live mate, he’s actually dressed quite classy by normal standards here 😆

Christ Stoke are so boring, why do their fans even turn up to their games, let alone sing and shout about it…

  3. Wonder if Debuchy has ever taken many free kicks or corners? He’s a decent crosser…might be worth a look ❓ 😕

  4. Well that was underwhelming 🙄 This has 0.0 or a late sucker punch from them written all over it 🙁 at the mo.
We need to up our tempo and really go for it ,do we realise we are in a relegation battle or what. Watching Villa and Reading and QPR last night on motd ,they were all really fighting for survival.

  5. @Big Dave 😯

By the way, glad to see Best playing again after being injured for so long. He probably has seen managers coming in and out faster than his recovery. 😯

  6. Don’t know the commentators thought we were so poor and stoke was so good, thought we had the game under control and its only a matter of time until we breakthrough.

  7. Andy-I would say we edged it and should be 1-0 up as we had a very good chance. That being said we’ve not made loads.

  8. Andy-We’ve been the better side, but Stoke are playing for the draw and to be fair, they can say they are controlling us well.

We need to stop shooting from so far out so often, Cabaye I would give license to but Santon…

  9. Newkie I agree Santon needs to pass more often rather than keep on with the long pot shots as Icant see one coming off for him. 🙄

  10. Silly from Cisse, lashing out because he missed the ball completely a second earlier..Can’t give this team free kicks. They can actually score from them..

  11. Calm down Cisse!

Maybe Papiss read that someone actually suggested him to get loaned out to a championship club. 🙄

  13. Got to love Saylor. I mean he’s a ***** but at least he’s our *****. The free kick was quality enough without his distractions.
