Video: Kinnear on Gomis, Remy etc etc

Joe Kinnear has opened his mouth again, although this time what he had to say was more interesting rather than cringe-worthy. Have a look…

Seemingly we are close on a couple of players, namely Loic Remy and Bafetimbi Gomis although he did concede that the situation with Gomis is “difficult” and is ongoing.

Perhaps the most interesting part of the interview is the revelation that we are still in for Darren Bent and still have a reasonable chance of signing the Aston Villa forward contrary to reports the other day which suggested our offer wasn’t deemed good enough by either club or player.

He did admit that the striker situation is the area of most concern and is the priority that is being looked at in this window, but he also admitted that there is another area of the pitch that is being lined up for strengthening.

The thing is this is Joe Kinnear and these are just words until I personally see some action. I have no doubt things are difficult when it comes to negotiations but Joe has a bit of a track record of rewriting things or bending the truth.

As ever I’ll wait and see…

  1. What a pleasant thought Kim, big fat Mike singing down a microphone to the st james’s park crowd before kick off 🙂 we need a twelve man

  2. Good heavens, dare I say that he actually sounded reasonable in that? I mean, no news to speak of, but I guess it’s good that he didn’t start out by calling the camera man a **** and telling the fans they’re idiots.

How low he is in my opinion if that seems like progress…

  3. Joe actually sounds reasonable and a bit nervous ? Mikes probably given him peanuts and his expected to do miracles.

  7. Joe is clearly trying to look more like a DoF but we still need players across the line. What style will we play this year? If I was Pardew with my neck on the line I would go for it. No more laying back in second halves. Push up the pitch faster but under control. Move Cabaye forward with Ben Arfa and put Sissoko and Tiote in behind them. We will be weak on the wing with only Gouffran as a decent winger but we need to be strong through the middle and bring in another winger. A good striker and a good winger would do wonders for us but it also requires Pardew to change our style of play quite dramatically. Is he up to it? Let’s hope so.

  9. Let me make it clear for the start, I really don’t like JFK. I think the bloke is a fucking nugget and talks completely bollocks most of the time.

But here’s the thing. I do genuinely believe that the bloke lives and breathes football. I do believe its in his blood and he loves being in and around football clubs.
Now I’m by no means suggesting the bloke is qualified or competent in any way – I’ve said many times that there will be fair better people out there to be our DoF. But I have never bought into this theory that JFK is deliberately trying to jeapodize our transfer window.
He was wrong to go on holiday when he did, but if he gets the players in next week then I reckon I can forgive that.
Basically what I’m saying is that as much as I don’t like the guy, I do believe that being a football man, he probably is trying his damnedest to get these players in.

On me own? …. thought so 😉

  10. Fabregas has told them to get lost, Schweinsteiger to Man Utd….latest rumour…hmm…can’t see it happening at all, Schweini is a dyed in the blood Bayer…. Cabaye third choice..?

      (Quote)

  11. Sharpy @16 I agree with you about Kinnear. He loves football. He’s out of date and slow to start but he does care about the club he works for. But if he can’t do the job he’ll have to go fairly quickly. We can’t afford another Llambias sitting on his thumbs.

      (Quote)

  12. MM – do you think Moyes will go for Fellani before Cabaye or do you think he’s looking for a passing midfielder. They’ve always been linked with Modric as well haven’t they?!.
I think Ashley will demand way too much for Man Utds liking IMO.

I just wonder whether Moyes is desperate to stay away from Everton players coz the football media will say he has been unable to attract big names and he’s taken the easy option with Fellani and Baines.

      (Quote)

  13. Think you’re right Munich @17. Moyes might go after Cabaye and if he gets him we might find out how good he can really be. That would be a terrible shame but Ashley is always after more money.

      (Quote)

  14. Spot on Sharpy. I heard his holiday was already sorted before he took the job and it was with his daughter in law and grandchild. His son died last year I think. If that is correct I have no problem at all with him taking that time off to have a holiday with them.
Players had already been identified and perhaps discussion under way. He was at the end of a phone and Charnley was no doubt involved.
I think the bloke can be a walking disaster and would certainly not have been my pick as DOF. He may be a bit of a dinosaur but I’m happy to cut him some slack for now and see if he actually delivers the players we need.

      (Quote)

  15. nufc always same. big job sign players. joe come good. come on joe. show these mthfkrs.

      (Quote)

  16. Munich ,They will go for Fellani mark my words, has a £22m buy out clause and Jabba would expect £25m for Cabaye ,factor in Moyes knows the lad and it’s got to be odds on imo.

  17. staves still no ansa. survival = success? I read blog. where pardew say this, staves?

      (Quote)

  18. I dont like the bloke but too be honest that interview was the best that has come out the club in a very very long time . I also think he was being honest as well 😯 if by tuesday Remy Gomis or Bent is in the club i will start believing the fat controller and his henchmen do actually give a **** . 2of those 3 and a good winger plus 1 good CB to replace Williamson and we will be sorted .

      (Quote)

  19. Sharpy I agree with you that JFK loves footie etc etc etc but my point is he is still a fuking walter mitty and it doesnt matter how much he loves footie or owt he will still cause problems weither he means it or not, because thats the type of guy he is, IMO he has no class or know how of how to get on with executive type people that he would have to deal with.
So I believe that it wont work out, and as he said himself last yr he would take a DOF type job to get back into footie but it would only be to get his foot in the door as he wants to get back to managing

So I would be totally amazed if he doesnt become our manager before the start of next season.

  20. Well I’m not gonna lie boys, I had me tin hat on there expecting a bit of a roasting – so it’s fair to say I’m pleasantly surprised 😛

3HW – I read the holiday was a pre arranged family trip, but I didn’t know that about his son. If that’s the case I have to be honest and say I feel like a bit of a bell end judging the bloke without knowing the full facts. I have no problem with that and respect him a bit more for putting them first.

      (Quote)

  21. Ashley could of chosen a better director of football to be fair but we are stuck with Kinnear, like it or not. Ashley’s the one to blame if we don’t get the signings, no one else! His the one that hired Kinnear and his the one that offered him a low transfer budget. He is also the one that picked Pardew to be manager for 8 years. He has had offers and won’t sale the club, we are stuck with him. I wish the team well and in three years time he might sale us and take over rangers. night all

      (Quote)

  22. Leslie or what ever other name you go by FYI I said before the start of next season not this season 😉 I meant to add that in my post at 29 as I knew someone slow would think I was talking about this season

      (Quote)

  23. Dave – you may well be right, but if that’s the case I think it would be more down to the fact that Pardew hadn’t done a good enough job rather than JFK purposefully fucking Pardew over.
People put forward the idea that JFK is deliberately dragging his heels in the transfer market to do Pardews legs, and I don’t believe that.
I’m not sure that these executive types that he’s dealing with are drenched in class either to be honest mate, and I do agree that he’ll clash heads with most he deals with, but his priority will be to get the best deal for us rather than make friends.

      (Quote)

  24. Sharpy I see where your coming from but if JFK wants back into football management and is only doing the DOF job to get back into the game ( his words) why would he make Pards job even easier and safer by getting him the players he is asking for ??.
I am not saying that that was his sole purpose for coming here ? as for executive types I have met loads of working class types like JFK and IMO
drinking swearing types don’t normally meet eye to eye with your normal run of the mill type of club executive but that’s just my opinion

      (Quote)

  25. Sharpy His son had cancer ,I read about it ages ago ,knocked him for six apparently .Who knows maybe he needs football in his life to fill the void ,all the same he has a lot to prove but I hope he comes good if only to shove it down the throats of all who laugh at us now. The guys on sunday supplement were saying that there is defo not a cosy relationship between him and Pards though but rather a workman like one.

  27. Dave – if he wants Pardews job, then he’d want to get the players in expecting them to be his one day anyway though wouldn’t he mate?!. I don’t know, I could be wrong.
As for the exec types, yeah fair play with the drinking and swearing. But the likes of Lambastard as the French footballing presidents we deal with don’t come across as classy to me at all buddy.

      (Quote)

  28. @BD

thats a bit of a conspiracy m8. JK won’t buy the players AP wants so AP leaves and JK can nick his job 😛

If JK can’t get the player AP wants it’s because MA has a tight budget like we already know.

I do think JK is trying his best to secure the players mentioned but he still has to work with the financial restraints of MA.

      (Quote)

  29. Kim – I bet it did **** JFK up to be fair. A man with his heart troubles probably thought he’d never outlive his son. Maybe MA saw his mate in a dark place and threw him a live line, who knows. Still wouldnt be the right reason to give him such an important and demanding role within the club like, but it would explain alot.

As for the Sunday Supplement bunch, I think most sports journos have a disliking of NUFC to be honest. They may be right, Pardew probably still miffed off at not being informed about the changes. But the sports journos basically all say the same things about each club. Never slag Man Utd and all kiss ‘Arrys and Jose’ ****.

  30. Sharpy ,They weren’t too bad to be fair 😯 ,said with our first 11 out we were a good team and although didn’t think JFK was right for the job hoped he’d be ok in it ,sort off. 32. There’s also an extended version of this video (8+ minutes) which is quite revealing:
    http://tyneandwear.sky.com/newcastleunited/video/76290/exclusive-extended-interview-joe-kinnear-on-newcastle-targets

    It begins:

Interviewer: How are you finding your second spell now as Director of Football at the club?

JFK: Well, obviously it’s a lot different from the role that I had in the past….erm….and I’m just sorting myself out, but I’m enjoying it…I’m travelling here, there and everywhere….I’m tied up at least seeing 3 or 4 agents per day…..

Really?……..seeing (ie. having meetings with) 3 or 4 agents PER DAY?
I’d be very surprised if he’s actually met with more than 3 or 4 agents in all the time that he’s been our Director of ****all.

Anyway, at least he’s consistent – he’s clearly delusional and full of bullshit even when he’s sober!

  36. Having listened to the Kinnear interview on why we are not going to sign anyone , I would like to ask Troy for a ticket and also if I can have a window seat facing the engine.

      (Quote)

  37. @Sharpy – I’ve no doubt JFK loves football and being in the game…. so does Gazza but I wouldn’t give him a job as DoF ( or any job come to that )

Anyway, I guess we’ll see what this week brings – more than likely we’ll be on our third list (given that PEA etc was alleged 1st list)

Be interesting to see who is on the 3rd list if Bent made the 2nd !!!!

      (Quote)

  38. Maybe pards sees Remy as a winger and will buy all 3? 🙂

    HBA—-Cabaye—-Sissoko—-Remy
    ———-Cisse———–Gomis———-

      (Quote)

  39. The third list consists of a pacy forward ,another that can also play out wide and a third who can be played as a target man , ideal for hoofball.
No problem with transfer fees or competition from other clubs.
Step forward Obertan , Sammy and Saylor.

      (Quote)

  40. Ice – that a twitter rumour? 🙂 latest is southampton are in for remy.
They have bought well this summer too……

      (Quote)

  41. Remy deal starting to progress…..Really do like him, remember him in the Champs Lge for Marseille and he was frightening, quick, two-footed, good in the air…. was really gutted to see him go to QPR.
He, though, if we are signing Fenchies is one of the best French players of the last 3/4 years, make no mistake about this.

Still need confirmation, with NUFC nothing is “done” until its done.

Another point, the criticism JK got after yesterday….What did people hope he would say? He’s under pressure from Pards, fans, etc and all he said was that it’s not down to lack of effort, and I believe we can all appreciate the ‘restraints’ he will be working under when trying to do a deal.

Just hope this talk of “a player for another area of the pitch” is not a replacement for any one….

      (Quote)

  42. BIGPAPA Just hope this talk of “a player for another area of the pitch” is not a replacement for any one….i do a player in for oba he just cannot cut the mustard in PL imo

      (Quote)

  43. The best thing about this alleged remy deal is that this is a player we have been after for ages….Kinnear is simply a cog in the process to go and get the deal done.

      (Quote)

  44. haha Almost forgot about Obertan…it’s easy to really. With Obertan though I really think his time is up here, the writing was on the wall when he was chucked in the reserves for the last 5/6 games of last season. It’s a shame really as we need someone like him – just a bit better.

    Remy…..Gomis…..Gervinho

Would we still take Gervinho for 6 mill, anyone?

Can’t believe no one else in for him at that price.

      (Quote)

  45. Sorry to put a dampener on this Remy thingo…

I have it on good authority from several regular posters on this blog that we will not be signing any players this transfer window. It is all smoke and mirrors and a cunning ploy by Ashley and Joe to usurp Pardew. Joe is doing all these fake negotiations to deceive us all and ultimately, get back in charge.. Sooooo, don’t get too excited, it won’t happen 😕

      (Quote)

  46. BIGPAPA sorry mate but .Gervinho is on the point of signing for Roma having a medical now i think

      (Quote)

  47. M – SSN also reporting that Remy is on his way up for a medical.
Could it possibly be that JFK has been telling the truth and in fact HAS been working on trying to bring players in?! 😯

      (Quote)

  48. BP – I think most people haven’t noticed yet but looking at the squad, if we sign just two players as attackers then a list of players not even making the match day 18 could read: Jonas or Marv, Shola, Vuckic, Bigi, Gouffran then we have to offload Ober, Gosling, Willo. These all had 1st team or squad slots last season. No wonder JFKs talking to 4-5 agents a day.

      (Quote)

  49. @lee_ryder: Remy deal will be a season long loan if #nufc and player can agree terms #qpr

      (Quote)

  50. Im not sure how many on here realise how much Remys pace and skill will change our front line.

Could be explosive. Especially in away games with him and HBA on either wing……

      (Quote)

  51. @BBCSport: Newcastle agree season-long loan deal for #QPR striker Loic Remy. The player is on way to St James’ Park for a medical. #bbcsportsday #nufc

      (Quote)

  52. 3 Hours – good deal makes a lot of sense to be a loan initially.

Pards must be delighted hes been after a pacy chap for ages especially as we missed out on PEA

      (Quote)

  53. @PeteGravesSky: Remy to #nufc has permanent option at end of season. The ‘other area’ Kinnear has spoken of strengthening is left wing. After 2 strikers in.

      (Quote)

  54. Sky saying our other priority is left wing after 2 strikers……..sinclair?

  55. Good signing Liam especially if we have option to buy at end of season. Let’s hope the rape allegation doesn’t result in him going to jail though.
