Game On! Newcastle v West Ham

Game on at SJP!
Game on at SJP!
It feels strange saying this, but to me this actually feels like our first game of the season.

Playing away as an opener isn’t great and when it’s against a team like Manchester City it kind of leaves you a bit feeling flat, but it’s done now and hopefully our season can start now.

The visitors are West Ham United who have strong ex-Newcastle connections and no doubt a point to prove once more. Kevin Nolan bagged the winner for his current employers last term so a repeat of that will need to be avoided, as will Sam Allardyce extending his unbeaten run as a manager against us ever since he was removed from the managerial hotseat at St James’ Park. Another former Mag, Andy Carroll, will have to wait to face us.

I can’t stress the importance of getting a win today. Being bottom of the table, even after only one game, isn’t nice so we need to get away from that. Another important factor is the level of performance which needs to be greatly improved if we are to improve this season.

The game is not being shown live here in the UK but it is being broadcast throughout the world on various overseas TV channels so there is a chance a stream could be available. As usual, should you happen to find one then please share it with your fellow NUFC fans by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

Team news will be added into the article around one hour before kick-off and will be provided by Big Dave as I’m at work unfortunately, which might actually be a good thing as we always seem to do quite well when I’m not watching.

So here we go. The first game at St James’ Park for the season. What will it bring? Will it allow a brief ray of sunlight to break through the gloom surrounding United at the moment? Or will those clouds darken still further?

Howay the lads!

  1. Could we have beaten Man City at home the way Cardiff just did? Not a chance. We show no coherency as a team with no attacking plan. Desperately poor in attack. We would look poor in the Championship right now. Pardew seems to have completely lost the plot and Kinnear and Ashley aren’t exactly helping with their dithering either.

  2. Dear Newcastle United Fan’s,
I know everybody must be feeling down at the moment after losing to Manchester City and only managing a draw against West Brom a game we nearly won. We are trying to persuade Kebab to stay at the club but if he wants to leave then I will bring in somebody else. I have somebody in the pipeline and I find some of your comments a little unfair towards Ashley, Pardew and Myself. We have a world class manager and I am the best director of football around. It’s not easy buying player’s when other clubs our involved because the price goes up. I hope your all looking foward to the Fulham game. Hope Alan gets us 3pts on the board.

  3. No shots on goal in a home game against an average side. That’s dire. It should be a huge warning to our management. If Ashley knows anything at all about football (which I’m not sure of) then he must be getting ready to make a move. Two or 3 more poor performances and Pardew must be gone. It’s even worse than I thought it would be before the season began.

  4. Dear Joe: thanks from all of us for your comments. For a little while there some of us were getting worried. But now I see the master plan. It looks brilliant so far. Just call me one more completely happy supporter.

  5. Pardew should have gone after the home game against Reading in January. His tactics and the selection of players in positions they couldn’t fulfil started at the beginning of last season. A decent man would have by now resigned. We are going backwards. Worse than 2008/09 season

  6. Geordietwo,
Mike has only given me 5 million pounds to spend. I tryed loaning Remy with out a transfer fee but QPR wouldn’t have it!
If I argue with Ashley I could lose my job and Alan really needs my help at the moment. Ashley wants him to walk away from the club for free and then your have a new manager but I am sworn to secrecy and have been told to keep my mouth shut.

Re your point we have the best players man for man outside the top six wow. I have seen nothing to support your point over the last season.

  8. Toby le rhone,
I know most fans want me as manager but it’s not going to happen. I’m sorry if that upsets you but I’m 66 years old. If I didn’t have a heart attack I would of saved us from relegation and won the title the following year. I wish you all a good night.

  9. Dear Joe @531: thank Mike for his dedication and ambition as far as our football club is concerned. It’s plain for all to see how well it has worked out. Already off to a brilliant start, in 18th place with 1 point. Couldn’t get a shot on goal at home. After a brilliant previous season it was obvious we didn’t need to make many changes. And much to our manager’s relief we’re not in Europe now. One injured player on loan should be more than enough. Carry on with the brilliant work Joe.

  10. @532 – I agree. Maybe, just maybe we are a Top 10 side with the right man in charge. However we have no genuine width, only 1 half decent striker and a defense that still has a lot of questions to be answered. For all Santon’s talent, I’m not convinced he can defend – and the jury is out on Debuchy. As for Saylor, I’m finally losing my patience with him. He should have ‘matured’ by now.

The only 5 players I actually rate at the moment are Benny, Anita and Krul – then Sissoko and Mbiwa.

Heidara and Bigi I think could be very good players in a year or two with the right tuition – but lets face it the FOOL and his team have screwed up every prospect they have touched so far, so what is going to be any different with these two?

      (Quote)

  11. Kim… I suspect most will have supported other teams originally, I doubt Venkies Chicken owners were boyhood Blackburn fans 😆

      (Quote)

  12. Unfortunately there is a lot of truth in what you say Shamrock @541. I think the jury should still be out on players like Gouffran, Debuchy, and Santon. I think all three could be very decent with the right formation and decent coaching and tactics. But how much of that do they get with us. Even Saylor could be a decent CB if someone were to grab hold of him and get him to settle down and play the game properly. We’re thin at RB with Simpson leaving, at CF since Ba left and on the wing with Obertan not panning out. If Cabaye leaves he will leave a hole to fill as well. A lot to do and yet with Pardew with us I still worry we won’t get the best out of any incoming.

  13. Well this has got me buzzing ,just read on EDs blog we are supposed to be targeting Troy Deeney a 25 year old striker from Watford . We can all stop worrying now CL here we come

FOR ***** SAKE , if true we need shot of the owner , manager , scouts and Joke inhere or we are DOWN

  14. G2 – what you write may well be true, but it’s pissing me off royally.
This club is in **** state, make no mistake.
    What a fecking joke.

  16. Kim 😆

Axel…I’ve no probs with that, it’s not like he’s going to be first choice, tbh I ain’t seen much of him but seems decent enough what I have, though I think I read Spuds are after him so it’s probably a no goer anyway.

I don’t know which one to go on so I chose the last one.
He doesn’t mention NUFC tho 😯

  18. Sorry BB @549. It’s pissing all of us off. If only we had some real input to the club. Any decent owner would have made big changes this summer, and I don’t mean bringing in Joe Kinnear. Hasn’t Ashley learned that desperation moves don’t work? Is he going to wait until we’re in the bottom 3 by the end of October to do something about Pardew? It’s complete madness. We need a new experienced manager with his own choices for the coaching staff. Do it as soon as possible Ashley but this time pick a manager for the right reasons. You know Mike, someone who can manage at the Prem level?

      (Quote)

  19. G2 – well that rules Holloway out then.
Pardew should do himself a favour and walk away before he gets the sack.
It will do his reputation no good to be seen as a failure. Crystal Palace wont want him when we are struggling in the bottom 3 come xmas.
Leave now before its too late. Do the right thing for once.

      (Quote)

  20. Our lad Mike should love that beer BB @556. He’s so familiar with the taste of bollocks already it should just roll down his throat.

  21. How many on here think Jonas will be straight back into the lineup and Anita back out once Jonas is fit again? It’s another example of Pardew’s thinking. And didn’t he say Man City wouldn’t lose many this season after beating us? Check the papers Alan, Man City lost to Cardiff today. Didn’t Cardiff just get promoted? Yet they played miles better than we have. Doesn’t that worry you a bit Alan?

  22. BB ED HARRISONS BLOG he was one of , if not the first to have a NUFC BLOG m8
As for finding young english talent i dont consider 25 that young for a striker m8 , on the other hand Leon Best did a job for us when called on ,dont know what age he was when we signed him .

      (Quote)

  23. G2 yes Jonas will be back in the side asap but Pards will probably drop HBA to make a space in the team for him . Far too attack minded like HBA we wouldnt want that now would we ? 🙄 🙄 🙄 😆

Why would you want to go on there like ❓
Surely you get a more constructive and reasoned debate on here ❓
    (unless Troy’s on 😯 )

  26. We don’t have to ‘sell to buy’ says Pardoom.
But we need this Cabaye issue sorted out ASAP.
Read into that what you will 😕

      (Quote)

  27. This is a big test for Kinnear Munich mate. A few more days to do something constructive. Then we’ll know what we have until the next window and Pardew must produce decent performances. If not I think we all know what will come next. Pardew gets sacked, Ashley panics and runs to Joe to ask him what to do and Joe suggests an old lackey friend to take over as new manager of the club.

      (Quote)

  28. Just for the record, I don’t think Tim Krul will be going anywhere just yet.
Why would he go to Arsenil to be number 2 keeper to Szczesny.
I don’t think he is that daft.

      (Quote)

  29. Aye BB @566 I don’t think Krul will leave us yet either but his morale must be taking a beating. We need an inspired performance from the entire team against Fulham. A 2-0 win with Cisse and Ben Arfa scoring would be just what the doctor ordered. Of course we have to face the mighty Morecambe first. I fancy we’ll see Vuckic, Bigi, Haidara, Sammy and a few experienced players. Is it enough to get us through to the next round?

      (Quote)

  30. BB i only go on too read a few of the stupid idiot comments every now and then , it sort of cheers me up in a strange way knowing their is a whole load of feckless idiots out their , i never comment on their . Their is nee point

      (Quote)

  31. Yeah I think we will beat Morecambe – just. Unless they really get stuck into us and give it a really good go. In that case we are doomed yet again. As we cant cope when that happens.
Deny us time and space and we become devoid of any ideas and revert to panic hoof ball.
    Just wait and see.

  32. I see Swansea haven’t won a game yet either and they have the Euro qualifier this Thursday too.

  33. G2 @565 thats what i am worried about m8 who will follow Pards ? as i commented earlier it wont officially be Joe but i bet he will be the boss and Mick Harford or another ex player of joe’s will be the puppet in the dugout with the job description Manager . I have a nasty feeling just to **** us off the little tw@t Wise could be in the mix some where as well .

      (Quote)

  34. Axel@568…Same reasons I come on here then 😉 😆
Did you watch PSV v AC MIlan the other day, very impressive team of young uns they have there by the looks.

      (Quote)

  35. Pardoom had the bare faced cheek to accuse Wet Spam of employing long ball tactics against us on Saturday.
But the stats show the complete opposite.
    NUFC long balls 52
    Wet Spam 44
He really should do himself a favour and shut his big gob.
    😳 😳

      (Quote)

  36. And I think the Morecambe game is on the telly as well BB mate! How much better could it be than to have a large TV audience watch us against a lower division side. I hope any younger players we field make us proud with their effort this time. I’m still remembering some of the previous cup horror shows.

      (Quote)

  37. It’s definitely a big worry Axel @571. Since I don’t trust either Ashley or Kinnear I hate to think who they might come up with mate. It won’t be someone we would welcome, that’s about all I’m sure of.

  38. Off for a while now mates. Let’s hope we have some good transfer news to discuss in the next few days. All the best through thick and thin.

  39. how many yrs are we into our 5yr plan? was it a plan to totally alienate fans and to become a **** team?

Watching liverpool v Villa. proper structured team, using the width well, strength in every department and total will to win for the club and each other. Most important bit is they look like they have a game-plan.. And to think Suarez isnt playing 😳

      (Quote)

  40. We’re in the 7th year of the 5 year plan now Mark mate. Isn’t it going well? I thought billionaires were supposed to be extremely bright? What happened to ours? Possibly he’s been taken over by non football playing aliens? Some kind of weird alien parasite has crawled into his brain? That’s not a very healthy place to live I wouldn’t think.

  43. @G2 I can only assume he’s ready to sell up. If we don’t buy anyone he knows he totally fu**ed-up his time on Tyneside. I wouldnt be surprised if Pards packed it all in & i wouldnt blame him.

Hopefully in the next 8 days we’ll get some players in but i seriously doubt it as we dont meet players valuations or wages.

We have a decent squad if played correctly but we need to add to it. its a right mess and rather depressing

Doesn’t he know how nasty we can be ❓
I don’t blame him for wanting away, but all he had to do is submit a transfer request when the window opened.
Got no time for players that go on strike to force a move. disgraceful and cowardly.

He might find that his release clause is £20M.
    cough up or do one.

      (Quote)

  52. Stuart @ 507: It’s not as simple as that, mate. In fact your simplification of the deal leads you to a wrong conclusion.

The financial deal for ManC is said to include land around the ground, for which there are plans to develop an expanded football academy, sports science centre and business space for offices, shops, etc. The aim being to set up infrastructure that generates additional income for the club.

MM @ various places: It’s not the FFP rules that are the problem in Newcastle’s case, it’s the new financial regulations agreed on for the PL, which are in play for the first time this season.

Don’t ask me why, though. My eyes glaze over very quickly when ‘balance sheet’ is mentioned. Wait till Prem comes up with the definitive article.

      (Quote)

  53. I see the best fans in the world are talking about abandoning the club 🙄

There’s a term that applies to those sort of people who follow a team during the good times and drop them during the bad times. Just can’t think of it at the moment. But of course that term wouldn’t apply here, now, would it. Not for the best fans in the world.

I know there’s a term for those who hope for relegation – fuckwits!

      (Quote)

  54. Further to 596: I’m not saying that ManC haven’t tried to circumvent FFP. It may well be the case, but that’s for some future inquiry to decide. The jury is still out on that one apparently.
