Game On! Morecambe v Newcastle

Game On at the Globe Arena
Game On at the Globe Arena
An early season break from the Premier League will see us enter the League Cup one round earlier than last season due to a lack of European football.

The opposition are Morecambe and the ground is sold out giving the League Two side what will be a record attendance at their new ground, the Globe Arena.

As pointed out in my match preview, Newcastle have not lost a second round League Cup in 23 years but there is a sniff of an upset here. You always know there is a chance of an upset when Sky decide to to televise one of these matches and sure enough they will be at Morecambe this evening.

The good news about that is that it gives people who aren’t at the ground a chance to watch the game, and it also means that there should be some streams knocking about. Normal rules apply, those being that if you find a decent stream then please share it with your fellow Newcastle fans by leaving a link in the ‘comments’ section below.

I’m unsure what kind of team we’ll be naming if I’m honest. Part of me says that we should name our strongest team which should, in theory, give us the optimum chance of progressing. The other part of me is thinking perhaps some first team players should be protected on the basis that we don’t have adequate backup to take on a Premier League team should those first team players pick up injuries. We’ll know soon though and all the team news will be detailed below.

That’s about it, I don’t really need to waffle on about the game any longer. Will we record our first win of the season or will we be on the end of another early cup exit?

Howay the lads!

Morecambe: Barry Roche; Mark Hughes, Tony Diagne, Andy Parrish, Andrew Wright; Ryan Williams, Stewart Drummond, Andrew Fleming; Kevin Ellison, Jack Sampson, Padraig Amond

Subs: Andreas Arestidou, Robbie Threlfall, Alex Kenyon, Marcus Marshall, Chris McCready, Joe McGee, Joe Mwasile

Newcastle: Rob Elliot; Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Curtis Good, Paul Dummett; Gael Bigirimana, Dan Gosling; Sammy Ameobi, Haris Vuckic, Sylvain Marveaux; Yoan Gouffran

Subs: Jak Alnwick, Davide Santon, Remie Streete, Vurnon Anita, Moussa Sissoko, Hatem Ben Arfa, Shola Ameobi

  1. A good dominating win, that’s all I ask. Don’t have to blow them away, just pass it well and keep possession. A 0-2 win will do just fine thank you boys.

  4. I must be on my own here but I feel good about this. The only change would be Saylor for MYM just to avoid him being injured while Saylor is suspended.

Any team without Oba in it has a chance IMO and Marv and Gouffran could click I think.

Very brave line up from Pardew – hats off for that at least.

  5. I’m happy with the lineup. Although I would have liked Cisse on the bench to let him get on against tired legs to get a goal and try give him some confidence.

  6. Mark – agreed. Of all the young uns coming through he’s the one I think could make it if he has a good run of games and avoids injury.

Looking forward to see how Good and Dummett get on as well.

  8. @Toby le Rhone

I feel the same way about Goofy. neither a forward or a midfielder . just falls short for me… early days yet tho

  9. Well our fringe squad haven’t really improved at all since last season. Sammy, Gosling, Vukic, Bigi, Marveaux all still absolutely light years away from EPL quality.
    Sammy’s final ball is constantly ****. 👿 👿

  10. at the moment only Sammy has bring something and gosling who saved 2 goals. The others are ghost.
How we cannot make 3-4 short passes and control the game against a team like that, here we remark that we really lack some good players in the middle of the pitch to control the game.

  11. SteveP@40, couldn’t put it better myself mate. We have so many players who are not interested in putting there body on the line, cowardly.

  12. and now Debuchy start like Simmo with this kind of long balls in the box, for anyone. Its not a cross, not a pass, and we loose always the ball.
How can Pardew not tell the players to stop this kind of shity dead balls in the box, only Andy carrol can do something with this kind of ball

  13. Fuc man can one of our front men actually GENUINELY with some kind of enthusiasm attempt to win a high ball ? Fucking ****.

  14. Panic stations every time they attack – Gosling doing okay, along with Sammi (if only he could actually cross)
    Marveaux MIA again

  15. Marv has been *****, if he wants to get a first team place these are the places he needs to work hard and show he can put effort in for every match, but he never seems bothered in cups 😕

  16. Morecambe fans singing “Premier league, you’re having a laugh”… tend to agree 👿

Another FANTASTIC save double save from Elliot. We could be 3 down. 👿 👿

  17. Do not know what Sammi is bringing to the party, 3 crosses without even looking, when will Pardew learn Marv is not a winger

      (Quote)

  18. At least bigi got it on target, if he could learn a bit more from cabaye in the next week that would be handy 😆

  19. I don’t understand why by now our fans haven’t realised that Pardew has the ability to make anyone look ****.
No point criticising anyone under him. We could sign Messi, he’d look dog ****.
Probably play him as a defensive midfielder.

I feel sorry for anybody who has to play the shower of **** he dishes up in the form tactics and fluidity.

I don’t even care if we sign anyone anymore. Under him there is no point. He gets worse by the day. I say put Joe in charge. Couldn’t possibly be worse.

  20. Actually you’re right – Sammi looks completely knackered – does he not do any training at all !

      (Quote)

  21. well, i had us down for relegation last season but we scraped to stay up.. this year i think we are going to be 20th and rock bottom.

      (Quote)

  22. Marv always goes MIA on the wing. He is influencial and our most creative player when played as a no.10. But f#$# head Pardew can’t see it.
